Does DVC announce ticket promotions in July every year?

I know there was one announced last year in July. Just wondered if that was typical or just random. Hoping there might be one this year too!

I was interested to read that the block out dates for DisneyLAND annual passholders were increased in anticipation of the opening of SWL there next summer.

For that reason, I agree with _auroraborealis_, no ticket "deals" for DVC member in the near future. Hope we are both wrong, though. :)

Yes, that is an interesting writeup on how Star Wars Land at Disneyland will be affecting the DL passholders.

However, there is a very tiny glimmer of hope that WDW might get some type of a ticket promotion in the next few weeks. Disneyland's Star Wars Land will debut in late June 2019, which is only 13 months away. Thus, Disney had to announce changes to the Disneyland passes right now.

WDW's Star Wars Land won't debut until September 2019 at the earliest, or maybe no sooner than December 2019. Thus, Disney has a brief window of opportunity to offer a ticket deal right now for WDW in the next few weeks. The ticket deal could be structured so that the tickets expire just before WDW's Star Wars Land is about to open.

I'll be shocked if we get a new ticket offer, but I'm enough of an optimist to never say never.

We have the Platinum APs from the deal last year. We will activate in Dec 2018 and hoping to catch opening of SWL in late Nov. (Thanksgiving) 2019. They don't (wouldn't / shouldn't) add black out dates to that pass, right?!

Wouldn't think so. I don't recall them altering terms of purchase for tickets anytime in the past. Not sure they even can legally.

I normally stagger my Annual Passes to get 2 summers out of 1 pass. This summer will be my second summer with the pass so I would have to purchase another next year to start the process over again. Knowing the new Star Wars attractions are going to most likely be a mega draw I decided we are doing DCL next summer so I won't need passes now until 2020.

Random. There is almost no chance of one this year, particularly the AP deal. The Platinum AP deal was a real unicorn.
That is what I figured. I am annoyed with myself that I didn't buy the Platinum deal AP - I had no plans at the time to go during December. We were going to go in November. But now we will be going during a few of the black out dates. I am going to use PH's that I have an upgrade on the last day of our trip to Gold AP's so that should work out ok. But if there was a promotion I would possibly do that instead.

I am an optimist too. But at least I have a plan of what tickets to use if there isn't another offer.

Good idea! We try to get at least two trips out of one AP and sometimes 3. We have never been to Disneyland nor been been on a DCL.

I would like to see a 13-month AP again, even if it's just for DVC members. We vacation the same week every year due to school vacation. I would love to be able to buy an AP every other year to cover 2 trips. Unfortunately, the cost of tickets has pretty much priced us out of the parks after next year. I bought tickets before they put the "time limits" on them to cover our trips through 2019. In 2020, we are going back to HHI. In 2021?? Who knows...but I doubt we will be going to WDW as a family of 4 because it will be over $2K for 5-day tickets and that's more than I am willing to pay. We could take that money and do other activities like horseback riding, golfing or other recreational stuff...and probably spend less.

In 2014 a four day/park tix for $199 was announced early in September. Purchased and used for our Oct trip that year

Believe i can downgrade it once expired & renew to Gold...I hope...$500 or so +???

They are announcing new blockout dates for DLR now because it's 13 months in advance so everyone will know it before buying. Adding blockout dates for AP that have already been purchased wouldn't go down well with customers.
I think SWL will open officially in early December, with paid previews/parties starting during thanksgiving or shortly before that. This would leave about a year during which there could be a decrease in attendance with people waiting for the new land. A ticket offer would be expected.
If a new promotion has to come out, it will in the next few weeks and we'll be able to gauge the expected opening time of SWL by the time the promotion validity will end.

This was discussed on the dis unplugged this past week. When it states "late fall" this could potentially put it into December (still technically fall until the 20th or so of Dec). It was their suggestion that anyone wanting to make a trip specifically for SWL should plan for Jan 2020-- So could this mean that 2019 might be a little lighter? If someone only goes every few years - if interested in SWL - they might be inclined to wait until 2020. So with that I wonder if they will offer ticket deals to ensure people will plan trips for 2019. I think TSL is a smaller draw and really isn't going to make people want to take a trip just to see that land. It will be -- "lets wait until 2020 and then we can see both lands".

When these ticket deals are offered, SOME amount of money changes hands between "Parks & Resorts" and "Disney Vacation Club." On paper, at least. It isn't simply a case of the theme parks execs facing lagging attendance, offering DVC owners a discount to help boost. DVC is paying something for the rights to pass this "perk" along to owners.

That said, the amount they are asked to pay certainly varies depending on type of offer (AP vs MYW), projected attendance, planned promotions and other factors.

Additions like Pandora, TSL and SW:GE don't necessarily mean there won't be DVC ticket promotions. But it does mean such promos are likely to be more expensive. Comes down to what DVC is willing to spend.

We were thrilled when the AP deal came out because we had already purchased 10 day hoppers for an upcoming trip - at the time, six weeks away. It cost less than $400 to upgrade all five of ours.

Secretly I don’t want to be tempted by a new offer this year since I’m already points poor in 2019, having used/planning to use our APs for a grand total of 37 days (right up to the expiration date).

Sounds exactly like us. We have two shorter cruises (a 5nt and a 4nt) planned next year after doing/planning 2 different two week trips in late August 2017 and early August 2018; and an added in between Christmas trip too.

Good idea! We try to get at least two trips out of one AP and sometimes 3. We have never been to Disneyland nor been been on a DCL.

I LOVE DCL probably the most of anyone in my family. Such a different vacation then WDW. Looking forward to 2019!

I would love to see another 13-month AP offer again. I have one that is still unactivated that I am planning to use for my October 2018 and October 2019 trips. I had only purchased park-hoppers (before they had "activate by" dates) for my kids so they have 5-day and 7-day tickets for those trips, but the trips are 7 and 8 days. If I could get 13-month AP's for the kids, then I could save the (4) park-hoppers that I have and use them in the future for a shorter trip.

We used that 2014 four day/park tix for $199, loved it. Although you couldn't park hop, it was fine for us as we planned the days. Nice thing we could purchase it for others. I purchased for brother in law and nephew to use! I would LOVE LOVE to see something like this offered again!

Not a fan of podcasts, thank you for this information. Yes, they are covering their bases with ‘late fall’. If earlier, it reflects well upon WDW

I am in the scratchin head re Pandora camp, but file it under something for everyone, as there appear to be many hard-core fans. They designed the area well, but the theme & two attractions haven’t grown upon us after numerous rides. Family seems to like well enough, so we do put it upon our must do list when they are along for the ride.

TSL, well, I’ll admit I’m emotionally invested in the franchise. Adore TSM, great generational type attraction. Trying to keep my expectations in check for the addition, will find out on 7/1 :)! Yet, I don’t think it’s going to represent a huge bump in attendance for them overall, just more visitors to MGM. Not a good thing personally for us and we enjoy the park & crowds have been lower for last year or so during multiple visits!

Everyone I’ve spoken to who is a casual WDW fan (of the once every 3 - 5 years type) has told me they moved their return trip to 2019. When I mention that the new date is likely very late in ‘19 after school is back in session here or even into ‘20, they are crestfallen. Spring into summer ‘20 will likely be slammed.

JMHO but I do think attendance will take a dip after the already scheduled trips thru holidays into Spring Break. Not sure if that will warrant any sort of new promo until September at the earliest.

I don't think fall 2019 will be any lighter for DVC. One of the big things about DVC is it means no trip is "one and done!" and the reasons fall is so popular won't be going away - F&W, W&D Half, fall vacations, Halloween, Christmas, weather.
