Does DL strictly enforce height restrictions?

I haven't read all the posts, but my DD was 39 1/2 inches bare foot and with 1 inch tennis shoes was fine at all 40 inch requirements, except Jumpin Jellyfish. She was at least 1 inch too short. She went on Soarin, Splash Mountain, but when she walked up to Jumpin Jellyfish after getting on other 40 inch rides, it was very odd. I told the CM about the other rides. He was rather rude and said sorry. I said the measuring stick seems off from the other rides and the CM said sorry again. Not at all nice about it. He then proceeded to give stickers to other children not meeting the measuring sticks, but not my DD. I honestly was pleasant but forthcoming about the discrepancies. I felt the CM should have least been polite back - I wasn't asking to get her on, just listen to me. That said, she went on the ride our last visit and loved it. Just odd that the measurement sticks are that off!

Didn't they have them at one point? I vaguely remember getting one when I was a kid back in the day! maybe it was knotts... I forget it was so long ago...

Not sure about having them back in the day, but I do know they tried them out a couple years ago. They had some kind of electronic measuring device on Main Street (near the wait times board), and depending on how tall you were you got a certain color wristband that denoted the specific rides you were tall enough for. It did not last very long, however. Probably less than a year. My guess is that there was too much potential to cheat the system, switching wristbands from taller to shorter children and the like.

We watched an all out verbal riot break out between a dad and a CM. Dad was actually totally horrible and out of line, right in front of his kid.

The CM remained calm, didn't budge. This further enraged the dad. He would not take no for an answer and figured the louder he yelled and demanded to see the manager, it was really gonna change their mind.

Just gross to see. I mean seriously, is it THAT important to get hysterical in front of your child over a ride?

The father probably had these issues:
1. Rules don't apply to them (because we are special)
2. If you make a scene you get what you want
3. Has issues with authority figures

There are many entitled people who go to Disneyland, my wife just drags me away from them.

These shoes are designed for this exact purpose.
Thanks--will buy for DD if she doesn't have a growth spurt over the summer; she's dying to ride Indy. They would easily put op's DD over the height for Indy if she's only 1/2 inch short now.
I do feel like the first Indy measure bar is taller than it should be, plus it's on a major incline (decline?). My son had same story as a lot of pp's: measured taller than 46" barefoot at ped office, then denied at Indy. I'm going to measure it next time I go so I know just how tall DD really needs to be, shoes and all, before I let her get too excited, then disappointed.
For DS's case, he had planned since the Dr. visit to ride Indy, and after we were turned away, we waited for a CM switch, then stuffed his shoes with napkins. The new CM let him in, then they measured him again at the other checkpoints, and he did get on. Feel free to bash me, but I am absolutely not worried about 1/2" worth of safety on such a calm ride; I really think the height restriction is high on that ride because short kids can't see over the Jeep, it may be scary to little ones, and to keep the lines shorter.

I'd hate to get too off topic, but I figured this would be the best place to do it.

Are there any rides tall people consider a little uncomfortable? (I'm 6'3".)
Astro Orbiters are awful for tall people. DH is 6'3", I'm 5'9, and it's bad enough trying to ride with one of us and one kid in each rocket, but our legs got stuck when we rode together!
