Seriously, WHAT is up with the package prices when booking at any of the DLR hotels? Example: priced my six-night stay for next September.

Room only at DLH: $1998.
Tickets only (5-day hoppers for 2 adults, 1 child): $850.
Package with room & tickets: $3223.

It's $375 more for absolutely no added benefit!

they are counting on those folks that just call them up or get online and book a package without checking other ways of doing it first. and believe me, there are A LOT of those people out there.
Once. a doctor I worked with, very intelligent man, booked a WDW marathon package with a travel agent. When he told me what he paid, I was shocked. I went home that night, priced the exact same package for $4000.00 LESS!!! The only thing I couldn't get was the pasta dinner they had for marathoners the night before the marathon. Needless to say, he cancelled his travel agent booked trip and had me book it for him instead!! He was nice enough to bring me back a gift!

I did it once, the very first time I arranged a trip with the kids and my mom - I just assumed it would be cheaper. Never again . . .

I am sure the tax was not added in the hotel only price.

I think you are correct. When you ad the 17% tax to the room rate the differance between the two prices is only $35. If the WDT packages still give things like luggage tags, laynards, etc. that could account for the $35 differance.

I agree. It's also true of booking good neighbor hotels thru Disney vs separately (and yes, I included tax). Always compare just to make sure! Now, with some packages though you get MTTMM, a pin and lanyard etc which you don't get booking separately. But again is that worth the money? Only you can decide that one.

I did the same thing the first time around, I don't necessarily regret doing it that way, it was our first family trip to DLR and I didnt know as much and we had a great time! But after that trip I wised up, did my homework, and did it myself, ala carte!

Been there, were going to book our package for last year, stayed at the GCH, and then figured out the difference in price, vs package and hotel only. Booked hotel only, then called guest services and added the hoppers at the price on the website. The CM wasn't sure why it was so much more if we had booked the package, but we ended up paying way less, even with taxes.

I'm pretty sure they think we can't add to see that if we want to go to the Disney parks for more than 5 days, that it will cost more PER DAY to go if you purchase a 5 + 1, or 5 + 1 or 5 + 3 than it did in the past when they allowed longer day Park Hoppers. Just sayin'...

Yes, package prices need to be watched carefully all the time to see what benefits might be, good point to bring it up.

Taxes aside, it's always important to do all the math for any trip you're planning. Sometimes a package turns out to be better. Sometimes a la carte is better. Every trip can be different. Packages have those little extras that CAN be worth it to SOME people. It was worth it for us for our first big trip, and now we know that they don't really have financial value to us for the future.

Many people seem to not care. Doing the math can save $$$, but it alot depends on what is important to you. Easy, or some work.
