The pp is correct. Free dining is the only discount that carries through the whole time if you check in on the last day, while room discounts are date specific. Because of this, sometimes split stays are needed in order to take advantage of a room discount as those don't apply to the entire stay unless all the nights of your stay are within the promo dates.
