Does Disney Make you Sad??

I saw part of Nemo for the first time today. My son was watching it for about the 4th time since we got it, and I caught the beginning. Am I to assume that Nemos mom and 800 million siblings all got eaten (or killed). OK I know that if that is the case, that that is real life in the ocean but also if that is the case, (that everyone got munched) why does Disney feel the need to add someone or something dying into just about every movie. It just made me feel funny after I watched the beginning and found myself wandering out of the room even though I was enjoying the rest of the movie. It seems that in every Disney movie there is a death either directly or indirectly. I can remember vividly watching Sunday night Disney as a little kid and bawling my head off in the corner because some animal had died. My mom could never understood why I wanted to watch every week when I seemed to always end up crying. Sunday Disney was a major staple in my growing up years, but I also remember many stories being bitter sweet.

This was just a thought that came to mind while I was watching tonight. I did so love Sunday night Disney..Made me feel very nostalgic.

Yes, very often. Death, sadness and other obstacles, and the ability to overcome them, go on, and/or triumph over them, is part of the drama of life. The death, the evil, or whatever, is the setup, the triumph in spite of tragedy is the joy. We cry in the beginning or middle, we smile, (albeit sometimes with more tears, of joy though) at the end. Disney is good at working our emotions. You can see it every minute at the parks too.

It sure does. But that, to me, is great storytelling. Something Disney excels at. I still cry when Mufasa gets killed, and I think I've seen the movie about 10 million times.:(

Sad, but pulling on your heartstrings is what Disney is famous for. If they weren't sad, the movies wouldn't be so emotional to watch, and that is part of the appeal.

I cry at every disney movie!

I cry at Pollyanna and I have seen that movie a lot! Of course I cry at the part when she sees all of the people who have come to visit her. Not when she falls out of the tree and is paralyzed. ;) :D

I cry when I'm at Disney and have to leave. It's such an awful feeling to know you are heading back to reality after having such fun- filled days on vacation with the ones you love.
Then I get home and get over it!
