Does Disney have any regrets with Storm Along Bay?

My favorite resort that I have stayed at on Disney property is the Yacht Club, and I don't think that will ever change. The draw to the Yacht/Beach Club for me is SAB, the best pool on Disney property and I bet it ranks as one of the best hotel pools in all of Florida? Anyway, I was wondering if Disney has had any regrets with installing such a elaborate, over the top, resort pool? I know it costs them extra just to pay cast members to stand guard at its entrances and I wonder if having the sand at the bottom of it makes its upkeep and maintenance harder?

Any thoughts? Wonder if they will ever go with such an awesome pool at any of the other resorts they will build in the future?

I don't think they have regrets, it's one of the main draws for people staying at those resorts. I could see them doing something similar in the future.

That would be nice. A resort/hotel's pool holds a lot of value for me.

Why would they regret it, people are paying the price to stay there.

There is nothing for them to regret, it gets people to stay at BC/YC. We stayed at BC last year and only for SAB (otherwise we would have likely done BWI on that trip).

At $500 a night for a basic room, with club level and suites many times that, I don't think the maintenance costs are too much of a concern for Disney.

Plus, with all the conferences held there, I'm sure the pool isn't even used to its full capacity for most of the year. Business people would rather pop over to Epcot for a drink or 3.

LOL! I saw "Storm along bay" and completely thought this was about Star wars! Never stayed at or even looked at BC/YC and had no idea their pool was named that. tee hee. It would've make a great name for a pool at the new star wars resort. Now I have to google that pool.

Yacht and Beach club are deluxe resorts with generally high room rates and quite a few rooms to fill. Having a pool that is in that high of demand only helps them keep the rooms filled.
I would guess, if anything, they wish they had put more pools like that at their Deluxe resorts.
I look at how they significantly improved the pool at the Poly a few years back when it was renovated.
An updated the Geyser Point Bar and Grill at Wilderness.
I think Disney understands these things help fill rooms, otherwise, I doubt they would spend the money to build them.

At the time, they needed something that would pull people towards those resorts and away from the MK monorail resorts. It totally worked.

The sand bottom doesn't increase the maintenance very much . It is a very large grain sand that sinks quickly and stays at the bottom of the pool . It's also not a long the entire pool bottom either. It's only in certain areas.

That sounds like an excellent reason there.

I doubt they'll build a pool complex anywhere near as big as SAB again. They clearly don't need to since deluxe resorts all book up fairly well and the DVC always sells out. There are other nice pools, but they are vastly smaller and often fall short of handling the resort capacity. For instance, people really like the pools at POR and CBR, but when they're crowded, they're miserable. The Poly lava pool is lovely, but not very big.

I can't imagine why they would have regrets, but if they did... I don't see how we would know unless they said so.

We are planning a trip for next year. We thought Poly (for the pool and because, well...., its the Poly) or YC. When we have stayed in Moderates, we go to the water parks for the reason you mentioned. The pools get CROWDED!! I am actually leaning towards YC for the whole reason of SAB.

Newsflash. SAB is always crowded. It can be hard to find a lounger or a bit of shade.

I don't think they regret it but I do think the fact that they've never really replicated a great pool option at any resort says something. Their idea of upgraded pools is the big splash play areas ...

I remember when there were first rumblings of DVC at the Poly, they were going to put in a complex that would be something along the lines of Stormalong Bay. Never happened though.
