We are staying in a 1br villa at SSR at the end of the month, and im wondering if they ever upgrade (free of charge) if asked? Although Disney doesnt seem to give many handouts. Just curious if anyone has ever asked and gotten an upgrade. Thanks.

Upgrades don't happen as often as it seems on the DIS. What type of upgrade were you expecting?

Just a room upgrade to a 2br. But- Im scared to even ask. Next year we'll probably stay at a different resort- so I was wondering if they ever upgrade rooms at other resorts as well as SSR.

HIGHLY doubtful you'll get an upgrade like that. Normally upgrades are for a better view or location.

Well thats what I figured...but I was curious about other resorts as well.

We go to WDW every year for our anniversary. And it's noted on our ressies that it's our anniversary. We've yet to be given a free upgrade. But here's hoping for future trips!!!!

I just came back from the Beach Club last week. I had booked a standard room with an AP discount $245 night. When I arrived, I was informed that I had been upgraded to Club level. :goodvibes Needless to say, I was happy. In the Club lounge, I met another family that had been upgraded to Club level also.

I have been fortunate to be upgraded twice...
Once at Grand Floridian..booked and paid for a garden view, were upgraded to a Lagoon view at check in:) We had a view of the Castle from our balcony...what pixie dust:)
Most recently, we had a club level garden view booked...upgraded to Lagoon view..with a view of the lighthouse, part of the BW, and Epcot...Paris and were able to see Illuminations:)
As a DVC member....I must bid adieu to free upgrades..but very fortunate I was one of the lucky ones:)

They have lots of one bedroom villas at SSR, so the chance of getting a free upgrade to a two bedroom is slim. If you are staying on points, it won't happen unless there is a problem and there are no other one bedroom villas available.

An upgrade at a villa from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom would be pretty rare.

Did u ask for the upgrades or were you just given the upgrade??

Got a CR upgrade from Bay Lake view to concierge MK view last year. Didn't ask - was just informed at check-in. Weird thing was, hanging out in concierge lounge after check-in, there was a family there FURIOUS that their concierge room wasn't ready (this was after 4:00). I got the impression that CR was scrambling looking for a room for this family. I was just waiting to be contacted and told there was a mistake and we would need to be moved. Fortunately it never happened.

At the GF....I asked...before I finished...the CM said "Looks like you have been upgraded"....
As far as the Yacht Club....I didnt ask...we checked in at the desk on the club level floor, they escorted us to our room...and as soon as the door opened...wow:)
One thing....I did not have a list of "requests" on either of these reservations. Only had one for the YC which was for a King...GF nothing.

In the past we've gotten upgrades, conciegre at WL (shortly after 9/11), moved from WL to GF, a one bedroom at the BC instead of the regular room we booked.

This past January I booked CR concierge on points for 2 nights and we got the tower club!

I asked once and was told there were none available. Oh well.

:) We were upgraded to Club Level once when we stayed at the BC. We didn't ask, in fact, my husband checked us in (I was at Epcot with family) and when we met up with him, he said, "I think we were upgraded because I have to use the room key to get to our floor". :yay:

I think it would be very rare to be upgraded at any DVC especially if you are staying with points. It is more common at the Deluxe hotels.

Ask again! It doesnt hurt!! Just be super friendly....make sure they know if you are celebrating something special....not sure how it exactly works...but usually an upgrade will be a room catergory as opposed to a room size.
I have read abt alot of upgrades at WL..there you have standard, woods and a courtyard view.

well, im not staying on points- we paid for the rooms- booked through disney. we're actually going down for a combo of my 30th bday and our 5 yr wedding anniversary. if no upgrade- i hope we at least get a room w/a view of DTD. do they have fireworks?

Make sure to make those requests prior to arrival...call CRO(if booked through Disney) and they can make those notes on your reservation. You would want a villa in the "Congress Park" section...they have the best views of DTD.
Pleasure Island use to have fireworks I think every night, but I am not sure of the status of that now? sorry..maybe someone else will know.
Have a great b day and anniversary!
