does Disney ever give free nights if you complain?

this is petty but it makes me crazy. I have a "friend" who has "problems" with every hotel room she ever stays in. They make a habit of heavily complaining until they are granted 2 or 3 free nights stay. She recently stayed at one of the resorts (first time to WDW) and they had a "problem" with the lock that supposedly didn't lock. I don't know of any hotel room door in the last 20 years that doesn't lock automatically when closed. Anyway she is holding out to "hear back from them" to see what they will do to rectify the situation. They might go again next year and this is what she does. Anyway I told her not to look for Disney to make such an adjustment.

like I said - yeah petty

Is she still there? If not I doubt they will do anything. Seems most people on here say they got a credit to use while there. I've been on Dis for many years now and can't remember once when someone said they were given something after they left.

Gee, I can't imagine Disney or any hotel comping you 1 or more nights because your door doesn't lock. If anything they would repair the lock and/or give you a new room.

As an aside, some hotel locks do break. I had that problem recently when I stayed at a hotel in Boston. I left my room and paranoid as I am, I checked the door to make sure it closed completely. Boy was I surprised when it opened. I checked it several times and each time it opened. I called maintenance, guy came up and confirmed lock was broken and fixed it. We both confirmed it was fixed. I left, came back that evening and the lock was broken again. Called maintenance again and he fixed it. Said it was the darndest thing. I couldn't sleep all night, kept having nightmares about someone coming into my room.

The next day, lock was broken again. They said they would fix it AGAIN, but I had enough and asked for a new room.

The only bummer was at check in, they had comped me a suite - I was there for a convention. When I switched rooms, I got a regular room. I was initially disappointed after the switch, but I slept so good that night.

chrismartinique - You are correct that it is petty. You also stated that they make a "habit" out of this. Seems to me that their complaining is premeditated and that to me is sad. I am not saying that your friend is not a nice person, so please don't take this the wrong way. But I would find it very difficult to keep my mouth shut to my friend. Every room that we have ever had at WDW has always locked by itself. If infact the lock "was not working correctly" they should have spoken up immediately. Sorry.

Businesses are starting to track this kind of behavior. I'm sure your friend thinks she's being very clever, but hotels deal with this kind of customer all the time and believe me, they know exactly what she's doing. I have heard of hotel chains banning customers for life because they pulled something like this once too often.

I do seem to remember reading somewhere that Disney tracks 'problem' customers as well.

I think it is quite sad too. If they bothered to do research she could save all kinds of cash just by researching like we Disers do:) She is really not a close friend - that is why friend is in quotes. She pulls these kinds of things all the time so I really don't trust her with my friendship.

Does this 'friend' also complain at resturaunts? I know that some of the chains around here will make you cut into your steak or whatever when they deliver it and make sure you are happy with how it is cooked before you even take a bite. Obviously too many people 'suffering' thru an over / under cooked steak only to complain when it was almost gone and get the price reduced or get it comped.

We have a friend that just cant seem to be happy at a resturaunt, and she really doesnt complain about much, but it's almost embarassing to go out to eat with her.

I think the BEST she might get is a small credit for this one. Disney's pretty wise to the "whining for freebies" trick and is not really generous unless they screw up royally! If someone had broken in AFTER she complained then... maybe LOL!

My cousin is a hotel manager, and believe me, by the stories she tells the Disney management is well aware of this kind of thing. If this "friend" didn't complain about the lock while she was there (like the poster who stayed in Boston) then I'd say she was out of luck. Disney, and any other hotel, will do what they can to make it right before they give away free lodging.
It's sad that people like this "friend" who keep trying to get something for nothing actually drive the prices up for the rest of us. I'm kind of glad we've lost a bit of privacy in this age of information so that these kinds of people can be tracked.

Ah got it. I did not see the quotes the first time.:lmao: What goes around comes around and you are better off not trusting her with your friendship. Smart move.:thumbsup2

she is going to mess things up for people who really DO have issues...she sucks!lol I stayed at the GF one time and when we checked in my then 2 yr old son found a open bottle of jim beam! I took it down to the lobby and put in on the counter and said my 2 yr old just found this in the room we just checked in to 5 minutes ago! I said nothing else about 30 minutes later the mang knoked on our door and comped our room, gave us 200.00 credit,2 robes and slippers and a dinner at victoria and alberts! (they also paid for room service for my mom and son while we ate there)I didnt ask for it but he felt like he needed to fix the problem I guess....it was nice.I guess he freaked out because if my son had drank it he would have been really sick...the maid did not clean or check the room at all!
I would never ask for free nights because of a door lock I would just ask for another room.

OMG! You must be talking about a relative of mine. She gets free rooms, comped air fare, etc, etc. just about every time she travels. I can't remember all the stories but once she was in Turks and Caicos and got a big check from the resort she stayed in because she could see an air conditioning unit outside her Ocean View Room. Another time, she got a free weekend at a hotel because someone opened and quickly closed the door to her room in the middle of the night. There are many many more stories but these are just a couple.

in july at POR we had a tub faucet that stripped and was on full blast hot at midnight:scared1: . i called down and could not make them understand. they kept thinking i had a drip:confused: . i finally walked over at 2 am and walked a mgr back with me:mad: . they took us to another room overnight and put us back in ours the next morning:love: . we left our luggage alone and just went to the other room in our jammies. they asked me to go to the front desk and they pulled out cash for one nights stay with tax:) . the response time was very bad but everything worked out:grouphug: . now, i griped but at no time did i ask for a refund nor did i expect one. stuff happens and i thought it was kinda funny. i do know people however who try to get comped (sic) for a living:headache: .

Heck I didn't even get an APOLOGY from Disney for trying to FORCE me to stay in the room with no power. The manager at CSR sighed and said "can't you deal with it, we will have it fixed tomorrow" UH NO! Its DARK and it's HOT! He did move me, but really didn't even apolgize for the fact that I had to DEMAND to see him because the front desk's response was "there's nothing we can do"

I'm trying to remember the exact details - we were checking into BCV (Oct of 2004) for a 2 bedroom villa for 5 nights on our own points. We arrived early and were told the room wasn't ready, hut we had a top floor Epcot view just as ww had requested. Great! So later that day when we were told the room was finally ready (around 5pm) the room was on the 2nd floor and had no view of anything. We were a little confused until we took our shoes off and realized the carpet was soaking wet. A call to the front desk basically got us a couple of noisy dryers and unstated confirmation that they had given our original room away after the folks who checked into our current room complained about the carpet and were given our room - the only other available 2 bedroom.

I understand the complaint about the carpet because we got stuck with it - loud dryers for 2 days and NO other villas available. Bad luck I guess, things happen, but we were never given even an apology. I was very disappointed with the way things were handled.

I guess it happens, but it's rare. Heck in August I ate at the SciFi restraurant and bite into a HUGE piece of plastic that was on my hamburger. After showing it to the server, they still charged me for the burger, but at least they didn't charge me extra for the plastic topping. The manager didn't even come out to apologize for the incident. And luckily I didn't swallow it or choke. I did write when I got home after thinking about an apology would've been nice. I got a recorded message on my home phone one night telling me, sorry, we'll pass the your message to the manager. That was it. Disney is not big on admitting guilt.

The last time we stayed at VWL the lock on our door did not function. They had 3 workman in our room for well over an hour as it was something with the card reader etc. They had a really hard time getting it to work and it was getting late so they sort of got it going where I had to really pull on the door to get it open. They sent a manager up as I was concerned we would get locked out of room at night with little or no maintainence guys around. The manager gave me her direct number and said call me if this happens. Which was fine by me. They came back and fixed it the next day so it was 100%. Honestly, it was no big deal and Disney did not "comp" me on anything nor did I expect them too.
