Does Disney announce price increases in advance?

Does Disney give advance notice of price increases? Specifically we planning on topping up our VGF points. Our use year is February so we'd rather wait until then as we don't need more 2014 points. However if a price hike was imminent we'd buy sooner.

At least recently, they often give a date at which prices will increase. Can't say that this ALWAYS occurs but it does seem to be most of the time. There are at least 2 reports (mine was one of them) of guides mentioning an e-mail would be sent this week regarding VGF. I was told it would say that it is "sold out" whereas the other owner was told that the price would be increasing. It's Thursday, though, and still no e-mail so we'll see if it actually comes.

Yes, they usually give you a heads up if there is a price increase coming. They sell a lot more points this way.

Our guide always sends us a postcard or an e-mail. You would hear about any increase here first anyway.

OP, hopefully you realize that if you add on direct, they will bank the 2014 points received at time of purchase into your 2015 UY, despite it being inside 4 months at time of purchase.

Even if you don't have a big trip planned in 2015, you could easily rent these points at $13-15 a piece, effectively reducing your purchase cost.

So if you are planning to buy either way, you absolutely should buy before your next UY begins- unless there is some other factor (financial or otherwise) that you haven't delineated here making you want to delay purchase.

I spoke with my guide this morning as we just recently bought into VGF, and he is anticipating that they'll be sold out in the next few months. He said they have 80% of the resort sold already.

This information was offered after I had already bought, so I don't feel like it was a pitch to get me to buy into VGF. I don't know how accurate it is, but it may be something to consider.

I booked our October 2015 holiday today and we won't go again until July 2016 so we wouldn't use any more points banked into 2015. I don't know why I didn't think about renting out excess points before. Buying now definitely seems to be the sensible thing to do. Thanks for the advice.

If you buy now and have the points banked, MS can also adjust your Oct 2015 reservation to use the banked 2014 points. Then if you do not use all of your 2015 points, they can be banked into 2016.

And, of course, I got the postcard in the mail today! Just said that VGF is about 80% sold and to buy your points today "while you still can". No mention of a price increase.
