Does Disney allow SMOKING on your balcony?

I totally agree about Disney not really enforcing the rule. We were at the Polynesian (before the total smoking ban but on a non smoking floor) and the people next door were clearly smoking in their room. There was a connecting door and the smoke was coming right through. We called the front desk and to my surprise they actually sent a manager right down to speak with them. She told us they said they'd been smoking on the patio and left the sliding door open and it must have 'drifted back in'. The manager seemed skeptical but I think she assumed now that they'd been warned they wouldn't do it again. Wrong. Kept it up the next few days. One night (very late) it was so bad it actually woke us up. We called the front desk and were told the manager was busy 'counting money' and would get back to us. No one ever did and we just ended up dealing with it. I've also called about people smoking on the balconies at AKL (which was always a no-no) and never gotten a proper response. I think Disney just doesn't like to confront people. Which is unfortunate b/c its the guests following the rules who pay the price. And I wanted to add thank you to the smokers who posted that they do use the designated smoking areas. Much appreciated!

Okay, this is new. When did Las Vegas ban smoking in hotel rooms, and which hotels fine this amount?

I want to say this went into effect last year, if nto two years ago. I know that where my DH stays (Flamingo) and where we stay when we go together, MGM, it is a $200 or $250 fine. He was talking to some business associates and the Venetian and the Wynne and other "elite" hotels, were charging $300 to $400.00.

I went in January 06 and we were allowed to smoke in our room, so some time after that. Ironically, I quit smoking right after that trip. I think our smoke house made me sick :rotfl:

Our room seriously smelled so awful we had to air it out every day :crazy2:

Our neighbor at the GF smoked on his balcony. However, it would never have occured to my Dh or me to report him! My husband has a terrible allergy to smoke. His attitude:the neighbor is on vacation too. If having the occasional smoke enhances his trip, then let him smoke.

You may want to hide!

:lmao:

The new smoking policy at WDW went into effect June 1, 2007.

Our trip was in Feb. We've been back to WDW 2x since the no smoking policy went into effect. There were smokers both times-at the GF and in November at BWV. Again, we didn't report.
Why should we hassle anybody? Why should anyone?

Of course, everyone is entitled to his/her opinion. And, if smoking on the balcony was allowed under Disney's rules I would not 'hassle' anyone. But its not. And therefore I can expect there not to be smoke wafting over from the next balcony when I'm trying to enjoy mine. Not trying to be the smoking police and ruin someone's good time just for spite. The smoke actually bothers me so I'd like it not to ruin mine.

But (just for the sake of argument) while it is clearly against Disney's policy, if a CM has told someone that it IS okay to smoke on the balcony...then what? I know this has happened before the smoking ban went into effect. It could STILL be happening.

And for those saying Disney is not enforcing their damages policy, how do you know? People could have been charged the $200 fee and you would have no way of knowing.

The only time I worried about the fine was when we checked in at the Poly and there was a cup or can with cigarette butts in it stashed out on the balcony. We reported it immediately as I didn't want to be accused of having left it there (no one in my family smokes) and get hit with the fine. We also did see several people smoking on their balconies at various times; nobody in a room near us that I know of, however.

1. Policy is policy. If a CM told you it was ok to run naked around the resorts, would you? After all, a CM said it was ok. Seriously, CMs do make mistakes, and while quoting policy shouldn't be one of them, it probably happens. But I wonder what happens if that guest then gets fined for smoking? Does the CM have to pay it?

2. Well, we don't know if anyone is getting find. But many people have posted about having problems with smoky rooms, only to find the CMs less then helpful. A few have posted having problems at the Pop, and the CMs just came and stuffed towels in their bathroom vents. Not very helpful. And I can say that I hardly ever saw someone in a resort DSA. I can't believe that hardly anyone that smokes goes to Disney, so I would think that some are still not using the DSAs the way they should.

I would think if Disney was fining people, it would make others less inclined to break the rules and smoke. But since people just seem to not care and the problem seems very wide spread, I don't think they are fining people. JMO.

You are correct, however we all know that there are many policies that Disney chooses not to enforce and people still do them, why is this worse?

We also don't know if Disney has elected to fine the guests after the fact. There are a lot of assumptions being made about how Disney is handling things.

If you (general you) witness someone breaking the rules any/everywhere, do you report it? If not, then why now, why THIS rule?

Because this rule affects our health. And the lack of enforcement can ruin someone's vacation. There was a post just a little while ago about a family stay at the Pop ruined by someone smoking in their room. Many of the vent systems at the Pop are connected, and the smoke goes from room to room. Anyway, this family had a child with accute asthma, and ended up at the hospital, from smoke traveling into their room. When Disney claims that their rooms are smoke free, that should be an assurance that something like that won't happen. Or that if it you complain about smoke coming in your room, Disney will do something more than just shove towels in your bathroom vent.

At the risk of taking this too far...

People running red lights has the potential to effect my health. Do you report red-light runners?

People not following other Disney rules could be effecting the prices they charge for things which can ruin my vacation plans.

I sympathize with those who have health issues with smoking. But you are kind of talking about two different scenarios.

In one, you have reported smokers and Disney has done nothing (that you know of). At that point you *could* ask to be moved. I do understand that is unfair to you, but it could be a much better solution to save your health.

In another you are assuming that Disney has not fined or done anything about a lot of other smokers at the resorts. You have no proof of that.

ok, question then. if the vents are all rounted toegther, how do you find out how who is smoking then:confused:

I can only answer for myself, but the reason I would report this issue is if was affecting the enjoyment of my vacation. If I know someone is not supposed to be smoking and they are and it's bothering me because of their vicinity to me, I have no qualms with reporting it.
