Does dining rotation really matter?

The menu is Cabanas is a limited selection from that night's menus available in the other dining rooms, so you're not going to necessarily get more options there.

Generally, the first time you dine in each dining room you get that room's Signature Menu (different menus in each dining room). If your cruise is longer than 3 nights, the subsequent nights the same menu is served in all dining rooms. These other menus are Pirate menu (for Pirate night); Captain's Gala (usually semi-formal night); Prince & Princess menu (formal night); Til We Meet Again/See Ya Real Soon (last night).

Longer cruises will have other menus. Every night you'll get a different menu on a DCL cruise.
Now I get it! Thank you! Makes sense now!! LOL!

But....isn't formal night earlier in the cruise than the first seating? Would you then get the signature menu second and the Formal night menu first?

I said "Generally". Most of the time (on longer cruises) the formal night menu (second night) is the same in all dining rooms. And then you'll get the Signature menu the next time you are in there.

Formal (suggested NOT required) night is a NIGHT. Both seatings get the same menu on a given night. When in the cruise it falls really has no bearing on anything.

Thanks for the clarification!!

I've almost always requested.
1. To chose the restaurant I would miss when in Palo or Remy.
2. To chose the restaurant for formal or Pirate night.

And to a PP's point- we were in Animators for the show night (limited menu) on our Baltic cruise which happened to fall on the special "Frozen menu" night so that was a disappointment as we had been looking forward to trying a new menu.
Had I known, that would have been the only thing I would have tried to avoid - and probably wouldn't have worried about the other two as stated.

Formal night is typically the first sea day (night 2). Pirate night can be either night 4 or 3. You'll find that out by checking your "My Cruise Activities" option on your reservation, once your online checkin/excursion booking windows open.
I was wondering how you find that out! (First cruise will be in 2018). I've been looking at past navigators to try and get an idea of what will be planned.

And if your cruise is one of the glitchy ones where the website shows two Pirate Nights, you can determine the real one by looking under Onboard Fun where Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique lists Pirate League rather than the regular stuff. :)

Do you know if SWDAS impacts the dining rotation in any way? I was looking at past navigators to see the schedule, and for the last eastern there was SWDAS which we won't have. And The prince/princess menu was the same night as pirate night. Sounded like from reading on here, there was a pirate menu....

I don't believe in Star Wars, so I avoid those cruises like the plague - sorry.

No. What you're probably reading about is the Animation Magic show evening (the second time you dine in Animator's on 7+ night cruises). There is a limited menu in that there is no choice for the soup/salad/appetizer choices. The entrees remain the same.

Whatever menu is being served that night in all the dining rooms (as it's the same menu for all dining rooms that evening.), will be abbreviated in Animator's Palate that evening.

For example, the Prince & Princess menu would be served in all dining rooms on one of the later nights in the cruise. The same menu in both Enchanted Garden & Royal Court. But an abbreviated one in Animator's Palate.

Thanks for the clarification. Now to hunt down menus to find out which abbreviated menu is best for my family of picky eaters :).

HAHA me too! I found a November cruise without SWDAS, looks like they have the pirates menu on pirates night and then prince/princess on day 5 for the semi-formal.

Seems like I read on here that Star Wars cruises lost the pirate menu in exchange for the Star Wars menu - they still have a pirate night, just not the pirate menu.

That's the difference I saw in the two itineraries too!

I could care less about the rotation. On our Baltic cruise, because of going to Palo one night, I think we ended up doing Carioca's more than the other dining rooms and it was my least favourite restaurant. But, so what? One way or another I'll miss something by going to Palo's and most of the time we're there we tend to spend talking to friends and/or tablemates so it doesn't really matter to me.

I was annoyed the first time we got the abbreviated menu in AP. The appetizer has seafood in it and I'm allergic so they'd have to make up a special plate (none of my food can contact seafood) so I just skip it and usually I don't like the soup (although this time they offered me the chicken soup off the children's menu with Mickey head noodles and actually everyone at the table got it). The second time we did it, I spent more time over my drawing now that I knew what to expect, so I didn't mind missing the appetizer as it would have just interfered with my perfect (hah!) drawing. So I guess I understand why they do it.

First time cruiser here...what does the captains gala or princess dinner mean? And each restaurant does it?
Each dining room has a special menu associated with that dining room (for example there is the Royal Court menu when you eat at Royal Court) but when you are on a longer cruise (like a 7 night cruise) and you have gone through each restaurant once, then you keep going to each restaurant in rotation, but the second time you are in them you will be served the same menu as at any of the other 2 restaurants on the same night. So for the captain's gala menu (for example) on the night of the capstain's gala, you will have the same menu whether you are at Royal Court, Animator's or Enchanted Garden. Hope this helps!

Yes! Thank you!

Pirate Night => Palo Night for us. Uggh, I am so tired of glorifying 18th-century terrorists-for-profit.

How many different rotation lists are there for the 7 night cruise?
Let's see if I can explain this simply - There are 3 dining rooms. Let's say we're talking about the Fantasy. The order that people go to the dining rooms is usually Enchanted Garden followed by Royal Court followed by Animator's Palate followed by Enchanted Garden, etc.

The passenger complement is divided up roughly in 6 groups, 3 on early seating, 3 on late seating.

Each 1/3 (or 1/6th, depending on how you're looking at it) starts in a different dining room. That dining room will be #1. And the order is typically (but not always) 1231231.

For those that start in Enchanted Garden the rotation is ERAERAE.
For those that start in Royal Court the rotation is RAERAER.
For those that start in Animator's Palate the rotation is AERAERA.

On some cruises the rotation might be 1231223. Thus, ERAERRA; RAERAAE; AERAEER.
