I have been a coke fanatic since birth! LOL
Wanting to shed some pounds I started up with diet soda. I did it once before and it helped however I was younger and that makes a difference. (Yes I know water is better for you but this is about diet drinks) I tried to google it but all I got was info on how diet drinks MAY be bad for you. Apparantly the jury is still out on that one.

So do you see a difference when you drink diet drinks?

I got to the point where I cannot stand sodas that are not diet sodas.

works in what way?

if you mean rely on it to lose weight, then no. only diet and expercise can really do that.

Many years ago, when I was a somewhat rookie at my job, I was putting in some serious overtime. my intake of coffee and sodas (coke) went through the roof. During my annual physical my doctor suggested switching to diet sodas and no sugar in my coffee.

I did that, and then to my suprise about a year later I got a regular coke out of a machine insted of a diet, and it tasted so sweet that I could not drink it.

and of course now I am reading about possible bad side effect of the sweetner in diet drinks....

guess I'll switch to water!

or

RUM!!!!

I switched to diet coke in high school and now cannot stand the taste of regular coke. On the down side, I think DC has a higher sodium content, and of course the phosphorous is bad for the bones...but I can't live without my diet coke.

I don't drink diet soda. I don't like the taste and I worry about the side effects. I only have regular soda as a mixer for drinks.

I've read that diet soda changes your metabolism such that you are hungry for sugary things.

I guess it works for me. I drink a couple of Diet sodas almost every day & I'm not overweight at all.

If those were regular sodas, I would definitely be a few pounds heavier.

I absolutely LOVE diet coke from McD's but I have to really limit how much I drink as I find it makes me REAL HUNGRY afterward - even if I just ate a big meal!

I made the switch from regular soda to diet and gained weight! I stopped drinking soda all together a few months ago and dropped 18 pounds like it was nothing! Now I drink water flavored with just a little bit of Crystal Light.

No more soda for me, ever!!

I am an off and on diet coke junkie and have been for years. will go off of it, and since I really do love water, once off of it its easy and I feel healthier/better, but then, even if I've been off of it for years, I seem to have one diet crack, I mean diet coke, and its so yummy, that I have another, and, well, it grows and grows if I let it.

am back to going off of it. at this point I am down to one per day, and after the holidays I plan to only have it on occasion and only when I am out to a movie or the like.

had an interesting conversation with my dr. the other month, btw. She said soda (not sure if just diet) isn't good not just because of the stuff in it, but because it can deplete calcium (or was it vitamin d?) in the body. thankfully my levels turned out to be fine, but I was worried a bit when she told me that!

I dunno, I dropped diet soda altogether about 2.5 years ago when someone said to me "You don't see anyone getting skinny drinking diet soda." (I'm not overweight now, and I was about 15lbs over then.) I feel so much better. I have far fewer headaches. And with Diet Coke at least, I know so many people who say that they have one and it leads to 2,3,4,5.... it's like they chug them one after the other uncontrollably.

I have another friend who woke up blind in one eye. She was one of the friends above who drank DC after DC. She dropped the diet coke for some reason a few days later and her sight came back. May or may not be related, she was later diagnosed with MS. But they're starting to maybe see links between diet sodas and MS. Scary stuff.

You're a better man than I, Gunga Din!

"You don't see anyone getting skinny drinking diet soda."

I did. And I've kept it off for coming up on four years now. Now, you cant just switch to diet and think youre gonna lose a ton of weight. I also changed my entire lifestyle. I workout 5 days a week and count every calorie that goes into my mouth.

The bottom line is that diet coke has no calories. If you don't give into the sweets cravings that it gives you (sweets = calories) then you will not gain weight because of drinking it. Simple as that.

If you do drink regular soda, your drinking 150 cals a can and that will add up = you will gain weight.

It's a pretty simple equation. I drink as little or as much diet coke as I want and it doesn't affect my weight at all. Regular soda or any other calorie filled drink does.

yeah, when I am out in the heat, exercising or working etc., nothing quenches like water.

I do have and use a camelbak (hydrate or die!)

(wonder what rum would taste like in a camelbak? hehehehehhehehe)

Easier said than done.

I love diet pop! I drink regular a few times a month, but my home is always stocked with varieties of diet, and if I ever see that we are out, I feel like :scared1: and make sure someone goes to the grocery store that day to buy more. I love the Coke Zero flavors, the citrus Diet Cokes, Diet Vanilla Coke, Diet Code Red ... basically everything (I find that plain Diet Coke and plain Diet Pepsi are OK but not the most exciting of flavors). I don't know which I love more: diet pop or Disney World? Kidding! It's the World. :wizard:

I switched to diet Coke awhile back, saves some calories, and I actually prefer the taste of it now.

While it is a reduction in calories, diet soda presents its own host of issues that can inhibit weight loss.

But if you have the ability to drink them in moderation (i.e. no more than 1-2 servings per day), it can be helpful.

But the jury is out that it may drive your sweet tooth crazy and drive cravings for those type of foods.

So if one of your dietary decisions is to reduce or eliminate sweets, failing to moderate your drinking of diet soda, could cause you to not succeed.

I don't drink it for weight loss purposes. I just can't stand the sugary content of regular soda. I'd prefer not to drink it all and was clean for a while. But I'm having problems drinking water this pregnancy and was having problem with juices and other types of drinks. So for now, it is what I have.

And I love the looks I get when I order a not-so-diet meal with my diet soda. I know they're thinking this woman is crazy.
