Does buying one AP ticket and 3 PHP make sense?

After reading some of the postings about annual pass discounts, I believe that I have figured out I can get CBR 5/31-6/6 for $74 vs. the $94 res. that I have now.
I can get 1 AP and 2 ad PHP and 1child PHP and save the difference on our reservation, right? Does this sound logical? Has anyone done this? Any better suggestions? I'm really getting hooked on this site!!
Thanks so much!:earsgirl:

We did that a couple years ago -- saved more than the additional cost of the one AP on the resort. Had a wonderful trip, so wonderful that we upgraded all the rest of the passes to APs on the last day -- great way to spend about $240.

We bought AP's for dh and me and 7 day hopper + for the kids, but we wish we'd done AP's all around. When we asked about upgrading the kids' partially used passes, we would've lost all the plus options. Our SOG AP rate was better than what Disney offered us for an upgrade.

you might want to check to see if the ap rate is still available for your dates

From what I understand, you can make the reservations with the AP rate before you buy the AP's.

I was going to do this too. My only question was how does it work with plus options? It seems like the person with the AP would have to buy all of their plus stuff individually, which might cost more-or do they give you a discount at the water parks and disney quest with an AP?

My understanding is that the AP gives you admission to the 4 parks only. TO get admission to the "plus" stuff (PI, waterparks) you have to buy a PAP (Premium Annual Pass) which is considerably more money.

Maxie, I think you are correct. The AP is only for the parks. If the other travellers have PHPs, then the AP holder would have to pay separate admission to the water parks. Now, the other travellers could buy PHs, if the water parks, etc. aren't on the agenda. Please correct me if I'm wrong! :D

I was looking at getting me an AP to use the discount... I know that the childs AP and then getting the water park AP is cheaper than a PAP... at least on the websites I saw! You could also get the child the AP (from what I have read as long as someone has the AP in your party the discount is good) and get the child a waterpark AP if you were just doing the water parks on the plusses... thats what we needed, none of the other things on the plusses.... STeph

I think that it has to be an adult that has a AP to make a hotel reservation. You can't make a ressie if you are under 18(??) and therefore if they ask to see the AP on check-in and you only have a child AP you may not qualify for the AP rates.

We're thinking of doing this for our next trip so we can afford to stay at a mod. We probably won't bother with waterparks on that trip because the kids will be small and they would like the pool just as much. So we'll probably just do 5 day PH and 1 adult AP.

I disagree. This was on another post and SEVERAL people stated that as long as one person staying in the room has an AP the rate is good, whether it be a child's AP or not... I will go dig up the post...Steph

Oh - if you could verify that that would be great!! A child AP would be cheaper than a adult AP and still get a great rate!! That would be great to save $$! Don't these boards rock!!:Pinkbounc

I am looking for it... the search function is disabled so when I find the post I will post it here... Steph

Thanks Steph!

I'm getting really excited about this AP idea! It will be great if we can use a child AP as that would be a savings of about $60 US over an adult AP.

I was checking Deb Willis AP benefits page and just realized that an AP holder could get a 10% discount at World of Disney (great for souvenirs!!), discount at DQ and mini-golf for the passholder PLUS 3 guests PLUS up to 20% off car rental at National or Alamo. That would definately make an AP well worth the money!!

Just wondering if problem getting the AP rate with the car rental if AP in child's name. However was never asked to show a DC when booked using a DC rate so probably would be about the same.
