Does Baby Swap require whole fam to go through queue?

The baby swap thing confuses me, because it seems so inconsistent! At least it was at WDW in March 05. Some rides one adult went through the queue while the rest of the fam waited outside, others they required ALL of us to go and swapped only at the loading. What's SOP (standard operating procedure) at DL?

I have a very timid DS (5). He doesn't want to go through the scary queues, but DH and I both want to ride. He was traumatized (not just uncomfortable) waiting in the Star Tours queue! :scared1: Let's just say we won't be repeating THAT mistake!

Sometimes FP will solve the problem, but what about non-FP rides?

All suggestions welcome and appreciated!

We were there last week and used baby swap on all the 'mountains' , Matterhorn and Indiana Jones. On all of them only the people riding had to go through the queue, BUT (and this was different from our last visit), you had to bring the 'baby' up to the CM who gave out the pass. On Space Mountain this is difficult b/c the area leading up to the entrance is so crowded but the CM there said they were having a lot of abuse and were trying to avoid the abuse by actually looking at the baby and asking the group "which of you is going to ride, which is going to wait" etc.

Here's my WDW experience:

I think it depends on the height of the child. You can "baby swap" outside the queue if your child is not tall enough for the ride. They don't even want kids that are too small in line at all, so your child waits outside (with an adult, of course!). Once your child is tall enough you will be asked to all wait in line and "baby swap" inside. We had to "baby swap" my fearful 6 year old inside for both Tower of Terror and Space Mountain.

My DD says that she will ride on Space Mountain at DL (I'm crossing my fingers because she did Mission Space at WDW) and the Matterhorn. I'll get back to you on the DL rules for Space Mountain if she chickens out.

Ditto on the WDW experience... my dd was tall enough, but wouldn't ride, so we had to go inside to do it. She wouldn't go in the queue, so my dh ended up not riding.

It's been a while since my son was too short to ride anything, but way back, the rule at DL was that they only gave out the child swap pass if you had a child that was too short to meet the height restriction. When you did get a pass, whoever was riding is who went in the queue. Then the 2nd set of riders can enter through the exit, bypassing the queue.

We only kid swapped on one ride at DL, well at CA, Tower of Terror.

My DD was tall enough to ride but we didn't have to have everyone stand in line. They gave us a paper pass that allowed two people to wait outside while the rest of us stood in line to ride. When we were done, the two people with the pass were let into the fastpass line.
