Does avatar land excite you?

I do hope however, that tens of thousands of other people every day are far more excited to see it than, say, expedition Everest or Kilimanjaro Safari

Good plan, short lines. If you go during the right time, in the morning and RUN to Everest, you should be able to get on with ease a couple of times before everyone else. My family and I did it like 5 times before there was a line longer than 10 min.

Okay, but most of the awards are for best visual Effects.

Sure, but I don't give out awards. I just know what I like, and I like Avatar's story. It's obvious that A LOT of people don't agree with me, but that does not impact my opinion.

I'm saying that other people say that because they believe Avatar doesn't have the longevity or cultural impact that the other 2 have.
I just don't know that anyone can say that after one movie. A movie, I might add, that broke every box office record. And spawned a "land" at a Disney Park before SW did. I'm not suggesting that SW won't get major treatment at WDW, or that SW may not outlive Avatar. But it is insane to compare the two when one franchise has 6 movies (4 of which stink), and the other has one movie (that is the highest grossing movie of all time).

Not contesting HP at all. Since that franchise is based on a series of books that will be read by children for decades to come, (and the movies were pretty uniformly good to very good), it is hard to imagine anything beating it.

It may be the biggest money maker of all time but it's only 24th in ticket sales. A New Hope is #2. Gone with the Wind is #1.

Just for the record, I'm "PRO" Avatarland. And maybe I should be "PRO" Gone with the Wind land.

There are only rumors about rides at the moment I believe. Personally I am excited about the new land. I am not really worrying about the rides as much, but from the drawings I have seen of it, if they are sticking to that general idea for the themes and details it will LOOK amazing. Especially at night. Now I also read that they will have the floating mountains that are seen in the movie. I am not sure how they are gonna make that work, but if they do it will be incredible just to look at.

I've got to say, I'm not super excited about Avatar. The movie was ok. The land was beautiful in the film, but the story was just ok. I get why they are putting it at AK, but I don't think it really fits there. Part of me feels that non-Disney property belongs at the Studios and not any of the other parks. This isn't a Disney property. I like the idea of putting something in Animal Kingdom like Beastly Kingdom that was originally supposed to go in, but I wish it were something Disney original. Disney has so many Disney owned properties and the potential to create so many new things that are Disney.....

Even with that being said, will I go? Yes, at some point I will check it out. Maybe they will change my mind.

For the record, if I could wish a land into existence AK would have a Fantasyland type area with rides (probably mostly dark rides) featuring Animal-centric Disney films. Bambi, Jungle Book, Lion King, etc.

Alright, but other than Everest and the Rapids, What else does AK have worth going to? They may be trying to make a half-day park, to a all day thing, so people spend more time in the parks, and longer stays. Disney is a business, and at the end of the day it is about the bottom line.

I am really excited about Disney bringing Pandora to life, and as I've said elsewhere it may actually be the one thing that gets my husband back to the parks with me. I really hope the they nail the "land" and themes around the rides properly as I'm just as excited to see what they do with that as I am for the rides.

The reason for my excitement is it will be something new in a park in need of more attractions. I thought the plot of movie was dumb bu the visuals were unique. Maybe it will translate better to attractions.

I agree with this 100% I did not see the Avatar movie. I was neutral on the idea about the new land in AK. I think something new like that will make the park more popular. I don't know if it will do as well as Harry Potter in US/IOA but I think it will be another success for Disney. I don't think Disney will do just anything, they will try and make something special out of the new land. Whether a person has seen Avatar or not, I bet it will be a draw, because like everyone else said, it was visually well done. i will interested and excited to visit when it is finished. I am interested in reading more updates about it. Hopefully Disney will let us in more about what they have planned exactly. :)

Yes, I'm excited. AK is my favorite park, especially at night. This can only improve it. :)

Worldwide? Or just domestic. WDW is a worldwide vacation destination. Just look at all the BTG threads! :ssst:

Or maybe you should be in favor of a GWTW makeover of the Great Movie Ride! :artist:

You just agreed 100% with a post that said that the plot of the movie was dumb, but that the visuals were unique. But.....you didn't see the movie. :confused3

I should have specified more. I forgot what part of the message said. What I meant to say is that I did not see the movie, but what I was agreeing to is that the visuals are amazing. I saw those in trailers and such! sorry for not specifying.

Basically saying I agree that since the visuals were so well, it will make some great attractions for AK. :)

Well it depends on what Disney does with it. I was pretty underwhelmed with the new FL. Hopefully they will build at least one of those awesome Disney attractions that we all love!

Domestic.

Worldwide Avatar sold 287 million tickets. Star Wars sold 327 million.

I have to admit, I had to do the math myself on that using the same formula they use for the Domestic list.

But really, the whole thing is pointless when you consider how many factors can affect sales.

I love the idea of adding Bambi, Jungle Book, even adding things like Everest and Kali that have no movie tie-in. Generally, those attractions are better anyway.
