Does Apple offer idiot warranties?

3 years ago I sent my tracfone through the wash. In fact, I think it's gone through the wash twice. The phone still works just fine.

2 years ago I was out in the back yard with the kids taking pictures. I set the camera down on top of the garbage can to play ball with the kids. The next day, after it rained all night long and rained all day long, I went outside to toss the garbage out and there sat my camera. I opened the battery door and poured the water out. I hung it up on a coat hook we have in the breezeway and 2 days later it worked just fine. I am still using that same camera. My daughter was just using it tonight to play around with video.

Not sure where you see the irony. I said that I'm not sure whether you can do it or not. I didn't say lie about it or try to pass off a damaged electronic piece that was purchased "as is". I told the OP to look into it. Just what is so wrong with that? If she can't do it, well at least she tried. You have a problem with that?!!!

Can you do Apple Care for iPods? My laptop had water spilled on it once, which Apple is not suppose to cover, and I took it in anyway. I was totally honest about what had happened, and the tech guy said he was impressed I hadn't made up a story about what was wrong and let the repairs go through under my Apple Care.

Are you near an Apple store? Make an appointment with the Genius Bar and plead your case to the tech that helps you. A couple of weeks ago I was talking on my Iphone and had it leaning on my ear against my shoulder. Of course it slipped, fell to the tiled kitchen floor and smashed. I couldnt believe it. I went to the store and they did a "courtesy replacement". It was still under warranty, but the warranty specifically doesnt cover water damage or physical damage (like stupidly dropping it on your tiled floor!). Maybe I lucked out with my tech, but he was great and I had it replaced within 15 minutes. Its worth a shot and by doing that they have gained a customer for life from me.

I bought DH an Ipod touch on December 21st for Christmas. Today he decides to wash it with his work clothes. Needless to say it is ruined any idiot waranties on Apple products? I've tried calling the tech support line but am having difficulties getting through to a human.

DS did that, too. An idea I saw too late was to put it in a baggie of rice for several days.

When I took it back to Apple, the tech said that yes, it was still in the warranty period, but then showed me a red line that had appeared in the microphone jack (using a flashlight), which tells Apple that it had been fully immersed with water and was no longer under warranty.

That little water damage line is in a bad place. The Ipods don't have to be fully immersed to trigger it! My son dropped his in the wet grass and it stopped working. I took it in to Best Buy(had their warranty), and they tried to give me a hard time. I had the accident insurance through them, which covers something being spilled on it, but not being immersed. It took me going through a few people but they did honor it. I use square trade now. We've only had to use the warranty on one item--a laptop that my son broke the screen on. They refunded the whole purchase price to my Paypal account in days after I sent them the laptop, since it was cheaper than fixing it. Now, we have a computer and a PSP covered by Square Trade.

So it is now sitting in a bowl of rice completely covered. It has been there since the "horrific accident" last night just trying to wait it out. I had no idea about not trying to turn that on so I will have to keep that in my mind for his next mishap.

I paid with it through my bank debit visa card but as credit. But I don't think that thatwill warrant any kind of coverage.

I did call the closest Apple store last night he said if the rice trick doesn't work I could make a genius appointment but they don't have to fix it or cover it due to water damage. Since I live 45 minutes or so from the store I'm going to try to give it a few days hope it works and then try to plead my case if not.

OP, the answer is YES!

You CAN get a warranty for your ipod touch ~ but unfortunately I think you have to do it when you first buy it.

A place called SquareTrade offers them for $50ish (altought sometimes there are coupons out there). I got one for my DD's ipod touch that Santa brought her, after my boss said his 10-day-old iPod already had water damage. My coverage costed about $30 because I found a code on Fatwallet.

Alternate between baking it in the oven and having it in a bowl of rice. Yep, I actually baked it. I took off his screen cover and his skin, laid it face down on a baking sheet and baked it on my oven's lowest setting (with the door open) for 30 minutes each day.

If you search on the Internet, you will read of other people baking their iPod.

It took 2 weeks but his works completely and holds a charge.

Yikes! That sounds risky. I think a hair dryer on a low setting would do a better job. My stoves lowest setting is 200 and that seems high enough to melt stuff and do some major damage.
