Does AOL still exist?

I still have aol and an aol email address as my main email. It's free, we have wireless and a cable modem. I just got an email at work (not aol) from someone who also has an aol email address.

I love AOL mail, so much better than any other email. I have had free aol for years and years-since we switched to a cable modem(have FiOs now).
I do have a yahoo account that is my first and last name @yahoo.com and that's the one I give out to people at school or professionally, but my aol is where I get all my friends emails.

I am on it right now!! We do not pay for it either but I could not give it up. It was our first account when we got married and I met so many friends on AOL especially the person I just quoted.

I have no idea how to sign in and check our Verizon email, I hate explorer and I can't even begin to think of Firefox or whatever.

I love being able to change my instant message icons and desktop themes!:cloud9:

I got bids to paint my house, and all 5 contractors had AOL as their e-mail domain. I have seven friends in my address book still on it.

I can't make fun of them, I have the same e-mail address I've had since 1994 on Prodigy.net. Prodigy was the online service started by Sears. A group of investors bought Sears out and turned Prodigy into a DSL provider.
Eventually SBC bought them out, then AT&T bought SBC, then AT&T folded it into Yahoo Mail.

I'm on the other side of the fence, why do people keep changing e-mail addresses?
My kids drive me nuts they change theirs so often. They still have accounts on Prodigy that they never use. They signed up with Yahoo, switched tor G-Mail, went away to college and got University e-mail addresses, then both switched colleges.
Both my kids have 5 email addresses, and I never know which ones they check anymore.

I am on AOL right now. have DSL and wireless.
I have had the same main email account since 1994!
I have 2 other email addresses. 1 is for work- (they just switched it to outlook-YUCK!) and the other is yahoo.
the one for work, I have to check that many times a day as that is the main communication for updates and how most of the required stuff gets sent
(that acct is a .mil, so you know that anything sent there has to be read!)
friends and family send stuff to AOL. work is well work. the 3rd- that is for fun and fantasy football (loosing bad right now :confused3)

DH & I both still have AOL accounts. We do not pay for them.

The reason we have AOL accounts is because they are for our businesses. Considering we don't pay anything for them, it was easier to keep them than to change everything & notify all our clients of the change.

I have quite a few customers that have AOL accounts.

We don't have a business, but it's the same principle for us. We've had AOL for so long and so many people know our AOL address, that I'd be afraid to lose touch if we changed. We opened our AOL accounts more than a decade ago, and all our military friends know it. Once or twice a year we get an email from someone we served with that we no longer had a way to contact - they've changed their email address - and I'd hate to lose that.

We haven't paid for AOL for years, though, and we both have several different accounts - work, gmail, yahoo, etc.

I haven't paid for AOL service in years, but I still have my 6 free email accounts with them. I read my email over the internet rather than through a downloaded interface, now. I know that it's completely old school, but I love AOL mail's basic format and ease of use.

ETA: We have DSL and wireless. No dial up in this household in 6 or 7 years.

My parents still have AOL so I am still able to keep my email address from when we first got it probably 15 years ago! (I just check my mail on aol.com though.) They recently switched to high-speed so I don't think they pay for it but they still insist on opening up AOL instead of just internet explorer. I guess they are just used to it!

There are still a LOT of AOL users out there!

Just did a quick check here out of curiosity...

Out of all the DIS members who had any board activity over the past week, TEN PERCENT of them have AOL email addresses. That's a bunch!

My first email address was with AOL as a paying customer. Many years ago, I cancelled the paying service, but was able to keep my aol email for free:)

I still have AOL, but don't pay for it. I use it for the email interface only, which I prefer over others. I don't like AOL.com, though, for checking email. I use other (faster, less buggy) browsers for actually web surfing.

We still have AOL and still pay for it - $14.95 per month. I like the security of having access to dial-up if our cable service goes out, and to use when travelling if there is limited internet access. It's like wearing a belt and suspenders! Besides, the thought of having to contact everyone to change my e-mail address gives me a headache.

We do not have cable telephone either for similar reasons. We have Fairpoint (don't get me started) and T-Mobile in NH and ATT (formerly BellSouth) in FL.

I noticed that some people are saying they don't have dialup, but are still paying for AOL.
About 6 or 8 years ago AOL started a "bring your own provider" plan - full "regular" AOL, but free, as long as you had broadband (cable or DSL). The only difference is that the free AOL does not provide any technical support should you have a problem with AOL.

When they came out with this "bring your own provider plan" we just went into our AOL account & selected "free AOL" - no more monthly billing & everything stayed exactly the same. Same signon screen, same email accounts, same favorites, same buddy list, etc.
Not sure why anyone would pay unless they really wanted the comfort of knowing the techical support was there should they need it.

Yea..that.
AOL is my internet comfort zone. I too switched to the free AOL years ago.

My primary email is AOL, but I don't pay for it.

I still use aol for my email account. It was the first email address I had and I have never changed it. I have work emails that forward to my aol so I only have to check one. I just got a new computer though and have not downloaded the aol program on it, I just check it through my browser.

I still use AOL for my primary email. Don't pay for it as I have broadband thru Time Warner Cable. Haven't reinstalled the program yet since I had to get a new hard drive. I think I'm the only one of my friends who have it.

I still use my AOL email account. I also have Yahoo and Gmail, but I much prefer my AOL. We haven't paid for AOL in years ~ use an air card since DSL isn't available out here in the country where we live. I can't stand internet explorer.

The friends we're currently visiting in California have AOL dial-up. I purchased a Virgin Mobile 3G thingy so I can use my laptop.
