Does AOL still exist?

Of course they still exist as a mail service. :confused3 Lots of people have AOL accounts. They aren't just dial-up, they have high speed service as well. I know several people that still use it for mail, and they pay.

You say that like everybody should know that. I can't say that I know anybody who has an AOL email account. Maybe I do, but just don't know it. Most people I know use gmail, verizon, or yahoo.

I guess I just know more people...or get more email...than you do then. ;)

I still have aol and go on every day. I have most of my favorites on there still except for Facebook, for some reason it won't work through aol for me.
I don't pay though, a few years ago I called and told them I wanted the free service and they just changed it over. I have almost everything I had before, the search for members is the only thing I noticed I can't get into.
I do have an elderly friend who still pays $29.95 a month. he says he is so computer illiterate that when something goes wrong he can just dial up aol and they will walk him through what he did wrong and help him fix it. Seems like an awful lot to pay for something he might use once or twice a year. But he won't budge and won't give it up.

My primary email address is still AOL, and like the previous poster I don't pay these days. AOL is still there hanging on:)

I kept it because I "have" to keep dial-up (separate modem thingy is attached to my PC) for emergencies due to problems in my area with wireless systems. Tall trees to the south of my property = no Direct TV. A rather problematic cable company is the only other game in town to date, and we have frequent outages of service. In preference I obviously use wireless. In dire straights I still use dial-up and AOL because I know the AOL system!

I do! I still use the AOL program too! I just like it for reading e-mail better than the others. I have DSL so I don't pay for it.

I think the only folks who are still on AOL are the ones who were not able to navigate the landmine of trying to unsubscribe from AOL.

It used to be almost impossible to get them to cancel your service. I'm not sure how they ever made money because they would continue to extend your free trial again and again...

Only place that compares with them is Discover Card. I don't normally get upset when dealing with people...but when I tried to cancel our Discover Card...the guy would not do it...kept wanting to know why I was canceling the card...told him repeatedly that it was none of his business...finally had to ask to be transferred to his boss before he would close the account.

I know you can keep your email address but will it keep all of your old folders? I have years of emails in my saved folders and I'm afraid I'll lose them.

My Dh finally cancelled our AOL acct. last weekend after we were going through the budget. We've been on cable modem for 2 years now, I think we can drop it :rolleyes1

But it took him more than 10 minutes of gong through it to even find out how to cancel it. And if they charge the credit card next month I'm having him put a stop on it. Yeah, they don't like you to leave:rolleyes:

DH & I both still have AOL accounts. We do not pay for them.

The reason we have AOL accounts is because they are for our businesses. Considering we don't pay anything for them, it was easier to keep them than to change everything & notify all our clients of the change.

I have quite a few customers that have AOL accounts.

I still have AOL! Not dial up though. I need to figure something out because for some reason about 4 months ago (:rolleyes1) my regular aol wouldn't work anymore. I could still access aol through IE, but not through my regular way of accessing it. I tried doing the download step that they show and nothing.

I really like the regular aol and yes pay $14.95 a month because I just like the "feel" of it. Crazy I know. But I guess since I can only access it through IE now I might as well go ahead and cancel my $14.95 a month account.

I love AOL mail, so much better than any other email. I have had free aol for years and years-since we switched to a cable modem(have FiOs now).
I do have a yahoo account that is my first and last name @yahoo.com and that's the one I give out to people at school or professionally, but my aol is where I get all my friends emails.

I should add that even though we have AOL, we do not have dial up.

I also have a yahoo account & 2 gmail accounts.

I noticed that some people are saying they don't have dialup, but are still paying for AOL.
About 6 or 8 years ago AOL started a "bring your own provider" plan - full "regular" AOL, but free, as long as you had broadband (cable or DSL). The only difference is that the free AOL does not provide any technical support should you have a problem with AOL.

When they came out with this "bring your own provider plan" we just went into our AOL account & selected "free AOL" - no more monthly billing & everything stayed exactly the same. Same signon screen, same email accounts, same favorites, same buddy list, etc.
Not sure why anyone would pay unless they really wanted the comfort of knowing the techical support was there should they need it.
