My 5 year old wants this terribly! It's the first thing on his Christmas list. I'm afraid it might be to advanced for him - although he's quite advanced in working these sorts of toys anyway. IF anyone has this - can you tell me how easy it is to control and any other tips? Here it is:

My son was 3 when he got it last year for Christmas. He liked watching US make it do stuff. He couldn't (and still can't) figure out how to make it work. And it gives me the creeps!!! (I don't like robots)

We (ok - I) just bought our kids (almost 6 and 4) the Roboraptor. They saw it demonstrated at Circuit City and loved it. I was able to get a really good deal on it a TRU using coupons and store credit that I had (if I hadn't, they wouldn't be getting it!)

My DD had it for her 11th birthday a year ago and hated it. She got about 20 minutues of play from it and it sits taking up space in her bedroom.

My friend's 8 year old son felt the same.

Good luck

I bought this last year for my son and he loves it. This year I saw the little miniature one for under $10 so I bought him that one too and already gave it to him to play with the other one. I think your 5 year old would love it!!
BJS has it for $69.97 this year. Target I think is the same price maybe 10 dollars higher.

My hubby got this last year for Christmas and after 3 replacements in about a week's time, we gave up on it and got our money back. While it did very cool things--for the $100 price...the few troubling nuances that were wrong with each machine is why we kept returning them. Otherwise, my over-30 hubby enjoyed playing it...however, we did download command tips from the internet so that he could get the robosapien to do what he could do as advertised. He's an engineer--and these commands take a bit to attempt and then take a while to learn them so that with assistance of the instructions, to perform them with ease.

It is very difficult for young people to control--many commands, many simultaneous buttons needing to be pushed to get him to do things.

It is a very cool toy--but for a 5yo may prove to be a very frustrating and hated toy if he cannot reasonably operate it.

JMHO. Good luck.

This thing was on sale at Linens & Things or at least it was this one or the dinosaur. You might want to check their website.

One of my students brought it in for Show and Tell on Tuesday. He just turned 8 and all of the kids loved it. I saw it on sale on Sam's today with a mini Robo for $69

Yes Linens and Things has it for $39.99. Fri. & Sat. only. There website is out of stock on it now. But according to their circular you can get it in store too.

My DS8 got this last year for Christmas. DS was actually just playing with it today and if he still wants to play with something after a year then he must really like it. I have to admit it's pretty cool. It dances, it whistles, all kinds of things. If it's $39 at Linens N things then it's come down quite a bit in price since last year. I know we paid $99 for it.

Too hard for a five year old.

My son got this last year. It is complex, and he was 10 at the time. My then seven year old daughter had a hard time controlling it as well.

It is very very heavy. You need to have some decent logical thinking and progression skills to manuever it.

We got ours at BJ last Christmas for $69.
