Does Anyone Vacation Any Where Beside Disney

We are DVC members which makes it very easy to visit Disney every year. We are very fortuante to be able to go on other vacations each year also. We just came back from a Bermuda cruise, and this past March we spent 4 nights in Fort Lauderdale. Sometimes we combine our Disney vacation with other parts of Florida, Captiva, etc. Next year we are thinking of maybe the Grand Canyon and Vegas or California (of course with a stop in DL!). We consider ourselves very lucky to be able to do this and our kids are very grateful, they know how lucky they are. We are leaving in a couple of weeks for our Disney vacation, 16 nights at our other "home"!! We really need our Disney fix every year!!!

Of course! In the past 2 years- Nantucket,Palm Beach(LOVE the Breakers),Key West,Montreal,Naples,Cape Cod and two cruises....with more trips planned beginning in two weeks.

WE love WDW and its magic. And I look forward to going back soon. But there are many other beautiful places that we want to enjoy as well,so we do not vacation solely at WDW.

Yes, I go other places. Actually my next vacation is September 8th to Turkey for 10 days.

This year we split our vacation like this: 4 nights at Disney and 3 nights at Siesta Key, FL (Sarasota - gulf beach). That was fun. We go on short little trips sometimes but for our main vacation we always go to Disney. In fact, aside from business trips that we've kind of made "fun trips" too, the only other places we've been on vacation besides Disney are Siesta Key, Williamsburg, VA, and Myrtle Beach, SC. And, we've been married 9 years.

But, we do get to go to places on "business" and it can be sort of a little mini-vacation. My husband is an opera singer so when he is somewhere I fun I try to visit if I have enough time off from work. He's been in Europe for 7 weeks now, why I haven't gone I don't know.

Oh - I remember - it's to save for our next Disney trip. LOL! Well, that is one reason.

We go to Lake Tahoe every other year for a week, otherwise WDW whenever we can.

I got to Disneyland once or twice a year. After discovering WDW in 1996 I started going there once a year and still going to Disneyland. I skipped WDW in 2002 to do a road trip with my elderly father. We went to sites in Arizona then over to Santa Fe, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. This year I went to WDW. Next year Pop and I are heading up to North Dakota so I can see the little town he was born in and then of to see place I have never been... Mt Rushmore, Devil's Tower, Yellow Stone, Grand Tetons and Craters of the moon. My next trip to WDW will be in 2005. And then I will skip a year again. But i still hit Disneyland once or twice a year!!!!

We travel twice a year...one trip to WDW and one trip to anywhere we want to try. This year it was Pheonix/Sedona in March and going to WDWin September. Last year it was NYC in July and WDW in December. Next year is a complete toss-up!!!

I had the luck of growing up with a mom who worked for an airline. We used to fly to nyc to go look at the windows at xmas for the day, or to boston to go to the acquarium, or to chicago to see sears tower. I've been to europe several times, all over the country and of course disney. Actually I haven't been to wdw in quite, reason being I love to travel and see new things. As much as i love disney its just not as special to me if I go every year. I need time in between, this gap is too long, but it'll just make this trip that much more special. You have to get out and see the rest of the world, there's amazing things to see, as great as wdw is there you can't replace the majesty of rocky mountain national park, or snorkeling in the caribbean, or taking a gondola for the first time in venice!

There's other "magical" places besideds WDW. I enjoyed myself when I went to Maui (Hawaii) by myself last Nov. Then the following month Dec, I took my 2 young children to Maui. They had a blast!! They enjoyed themselves and their first time to see the Luau (Old Lahaina Luau--The Best!)

We went to UP (Upper Peninsula- Mackinaw Island) and they had a wonderful time there too! We also been to Myrtle Beach! This was awesome!! Then this past month, we went to Michigan's Adventure Theme Park. There we met Snoopy, Charlie and Lucy! The kids loved it...and plus they loved the water parks there too. $21 for the ticket and this includes the rides and plus the water parks. Very clean and friendly CMs.

My agenda is to go back to Niagara Falls in Canada and Toronto with my kids. I would also like to take my kids to Disneyland, they haven't been there and I haven't seen Disney's new park yet.

Hopefully before the Lord calls me, I hope I would have the change to visit DL Paris and DL Tokyo. I would love to also try the Disney cruise. I never done any cruise before. These are my ulitmate dreams

I love WDW but I love seeing the rest of the world too. Last year we visited southern California and really enjoyed San Diego. (Yes we did stop at Disneyland. ). This year we returned to WDW but also spent time at Universal for the first time. So I'm trying to branch out.

We go to San Antonio and Eureka Springs, Arkansas regularly. I have a long list of places to visit and hope to try Las Vegas and the Williamsburg, Virginia area next. My preference if we can swing it is two trips per year.

I catch hell from my grandmother (the former world traveler) all the time, because my vacations alternate between Las Vegas and WDW (with a couple stops in LA/Disneyland).

I try to explain to her that when I retire (Years and years from now ) I'll have the time to see more of the world, but right now I can't go to long without visiting my two favorite playgrounds.

I didn't make it to Vegas this year for the first time in five years and I am having serious withdrawals .

While my heart belongs to WDW, we do take other trips. Most recently to Hawaii & annual summer trips to Cape Cod.

It seems that lots of people in our area seem to be stuck in the habit of only vacationing at the beaches of NC & SC. We have tried to break that rut in recent years with trips to NYC, DC, Boston & Cape Cod, Nashville, St. Simons Island, GA, and the Charleston/ Savannah area. We still do long weekend trips to the NC or SC coast each fall, but we are really looking forward to our WDW trip and WL stay this Sept. As I have stated in previous posts, this will be my wife's first prolonged stay @ WDW (we are both in our 50's) and we are starting to get excited. This will be a special trip for us, but I doubt that we will be @ WDW again since there is still a lot of places that we would like to visit while I am still able to travel (long story). But, who knows, we may fall in love with the whole WDW experience and decide to return soon.

Regardless, these boards have really helped us with our planning, and each time I read the various posts it raises my excitement level another notch.

We are generally Florida vacationers because we have relatives there and because we used to live there and know lots of people.

We have been to the Keys several times, Panama City Beach, Clearwater area, and the Everglades (stayed in a cabin in the National Park - very rustic).

Other places: Cedar Point and other parts of Ohio, Maine, Hampton Beach and other places in NH for quick trips, North Carolina, Williamsburg VA, Niagara Falls, Montreal, Boston, many places in Vermont

We bought DVC and told ourselves we would "trade out" for exotic locations around the world, but so far we have only been to WDW. In 2004 are planning a big points spree by borrowing all our 2005 points and renting a 2 bedroom and inviting our kids and their significant others to stay with us for 10 days - probably at BWV.

We have decided that in 2005 we will go to Europe. That's our dream....and all our DVC points will be "borrowed."

Looking Into:

California (possibly driving to see lots of things along the way), Hawaii, 7 day DCL (East and West)

Also: We have a lot to see close by that I didn't count. We live 20 minutes from Niagara Falls, and 90 minutes from Toronto. We have a few great State parks..my kids have hiked, fished, waded in creeks etc. all w/o officially taking a vacation to do it. When we go away, we like to be crammed with activity. We are lucky enough to be able to rest and enjoy nature w/o traveliing. We also get plenty of snow...sleddinf, ice skating, etc. We want SUN and warmth when we go away..

Right now WDW and the Ocean are the 2 perfect get-aways for us. As the kids get older, there are lots of things I'd like them to see and do. Even then, I see WDW/Orlando as being a relatively consistant vacation spot for us...

We go to Old Orchard Beach Maine two times during the year for long weekends and then for a week in August. DCherbus go camping in NH for 2 weeks-just got back yesterday.

We usually vacation in Troy, Michigan ( hey, *Fantasia* ); oops, I mean I work in Troy, Michigan.

When DS got too old to do family Disney trips (college age), DW and I switched to Las Vegas; to us it feels a lot like WDW, except I go to meet Cocktail Waitresses instead of Characters!

Now that we're not paying U of Mich tuition anymore, we're back to WDW. We have two PAP vouchers, which got set aside in the Great FTP Frenzy, so we've got a year of WDW in our future.

For more local things, we like Niagara Falls - the Canadian side, Toronto and Chicago is on our list.
