Does anyone still do the lime green ribbons/bandanas?

The DIS'ers are out there in full force: Last week I was at home depot, in the paint dept. I glanced at the Mickey head paint sample cards and guess what...........all of the slots had cards in them except for the lime greens......that slot was EMPTY!

My Oct 2003 experience with wearing the lime green ribbon in WDW for 2 weeks:
My DH and 2 teen sons laughed at me & everyone who asked about them in the parks looked at me like I was some kind of weirdo when I explained to them what the ribbon was for!

Over the years, I have spotted many DISers, and have been spotted! Just wearing lime green clothing usually won't get much results. That color has become very popular for summer wear, so you need to have some additional DIS identification. Lime green ribbons are good. I use curly ribbon and tie several curled lengths to the front AND back of my waist pouch. I also wear a DIS shirt at least one day of the trip and my DIS pin (bought right here on this site at the DIS Store). I also made luggage tags using the Mickey head paint chips.

My question is - What would I use a lanyard for?

I've seen them on sale but I would have no idea what to do with it. What would I hang from the metal clip?

Most people use the lanyards for displaying their WDW trading pins. And you can put a pass holder on the clip.

I have a lime green luggage tag on DS's stroller, from the DIS store and I just bought a lime green bandana to tie to the handels also, so, yes, I do the lime green thing...haven't been lucky enough to meet anyone else though. Maybe this time?

You can attach a clear pouch on the clip and carry you fastpasses, room key and/or park tickets. Thats what I do with mine and it makes it easy to access the tickets when getting the fastpasses and easy access to use the fast passes.

i had my retro Disbords pin, from back in 2000, in the MK the past Nov, and King Louie pointed to it then pointed back at himself. so i guess he has internet access in adventureland.

For those of you who want to be noticed as DISers, I have one recommendation: make sure you wear the lime green whatever in a way that is easy to notice from a distance, and make sure it is worn in a way that is different than something that is just normally worn. For example: if your daughter is wearing it on her pony tail as a hair ribbon, I won't think that's a DIS ribbon, I'll just think it's a hair ribbon. If it's a plain lime green shirt without a DIS logo, I will just think it's a shirt, not a sign. Lots and lots of people wear lime green shirts--it's a popular color, especially helps to spot your kids/family in a crowd--you will see lots of lime green shirts and hats, etc that have nothing to do with the DIS, trust me. LOL

What works is a big loopy curly mess of ribbon in a place you aren't expecting it--on a stroller handle, a backpack strap, hanging off your lanyard (unless your lanyard says DIS on it, their are lots of other lime green lanyards out there, so just a lime green lanyard won't do it) or something like that. A pin or shirt or any product from the DIS store with the DIS logo or name on it will work, or pen your own. If you wear a shirt or ribbon in your hair you could use a Sharpie to right "DIS" on it, or make your own iron on with your computer, or make a pin or some other sign (with or without Home Dept Mickey heads, LOL) so we know for sure you are a DISer. Please. Because I agree, it is very embarrassing to accost a normal clueless person at the park and ask them if they are a DISer--they will run from you, I promise. Or at least, walk away quickly, LOL.

Of course, I saw one lady wearing a DIS waistpack get pretty scared when I talked to her one day. I bet she never wore it again. I couldn't figure out why she looked so scared! But she sure didn't want to chat.

We had the Home Depot Mickey heads attached to our camera bag and my tote bag, and we had 2 lime green bandanas tied to our stroller. We didn't meet a single DISer last month though! I admit, once I got there, I kinda forgot to keep a watch out for lime green most of the time though... I did have many people eyeballing my Mickey heads. LOL I had written "DIS" and "liznboys" on them. They were probably like, "What in the heck does THAT mean?!" I felt like I was part of some special, secret Disney group. LOL

Does anyone have an idea for some simple greeting that would identify DISers and yet not be met with strange stares by people just wearing lime green? I mean, lots of time I see people wearing lime green and don't know whether they're DISers or not. So what do I say to them? If they're not DISers, as others have encountered, they could think I'm very strange, trying to talk to them. Any ideas?

ok,this reminded me about the thread about how many people say "dis" and how many people say "diz"... I say "diz", so I actually had to read what you wrote twice before I "got it". Certainly not saying anyone one way is "right"...it's just funny, because it never occured to me to say "dis" til I saw the thread about it.

Back to the original idea though...I think it's a great idea to have some way to initiate a conversation w/someone that might be a dis-er...

We'll be there in July....with some LG on somewhere...(just don't know where yet!)

I had lime green Mickeys safety pinned all over my backpack the first day. That was the only day I lugged my backpack around the parks. Next time, I'll do something else, so that I don't have to take my backpack again.

I did look around a few times to see if there was any lime green lurking about, but I didn't see any.

a few years back someone had made up a bunch of pins and if you sent one WDW pin (didn't matter how cruddy it was) you would get a Disboards pin in return. its a big lime green circle. i'll hafta try to track mine down in my WDW Box so I can take a pic of it. unless someone else has one.
