Today, he is known as Ranger Stan at the Wilderness Lodge. I have had several conversations with him over the last several years. He told me he drove a bus at FW around the loops before taking the job at WL. He spoke fondly of his yrs as a driver and how he remembered families returning yr. after yr. to the Fort.

He is approaching retirement, good bet it will be June 09 from what he has shared with me. So with that in mind, if anyone here remembers him from his days at FW and would be willing to share a kind word or experience they may have had with him, I would like to compile this in some way and give to him as a momento of our appreciation for his yrs. of service.

We will be in WDW in May and it would be great to have something to give him like this from his DIS friends.
Here is a pic we took of him a few mos. ago.

If it's the guy I'm thinking of...I'm surprised he's still alive...let alone still working! IIRC, he transferred to WL when it opened. He's a great guy!!

He is in his 80s. Still enjoying life, loves to fish with his buddies, etc.

Stan! On our trip back in '06 he gave us our tour of the WL - Ranger Stan, very nice guy, one of the highlights of our trip - he even made it into our Disney scrapbook that year. Truly someone who loves the guests. He gave my daughter a penny for a pressed penny when her dad and I couldn't scrounge up a penny between the two of us.

Keep em coming folks!!

We are a DVC family that loves the Fort. . .so we often visit this thread. During the summer of 2007 we actually spent a long weekend at the cabins and then ended our stay at the villasWL. We had heard about being Flag Family at the lodge on the DIS so inquired on check-in and were fortunate enough to do it on our last day of our trip. Ranger Stan is the nicest man. Of all our wonderful experiences at Disney, this ranks up close to the very top. This gentleman put our family to shame as we climbed up the steps to the top of the lodge. He assisted us in raising the American flag, Florida flag, lodge flag, and Disney flag. He pointed out of the wonderful sites that you can see from the top of the lodge. He used our camera to our pictures raising the flags and with the castle in the background. We insisted on having pictures of the DD & Ranger Stan raising a flag which he agreed to with a smile. He knows such history of the WDW, the lodge, and the area. He gave us a signed certificate that we were the Flag Family of the Day and escorting us down to a special breakfast. We then were luck enough to get a family picture with Ranger Stan. My DDs have this as such a special memory that I know they will one day share with their children. We have told so many people about it & they can't believe how fortunate we were to be picked & we can't either. It was even more special as my DDs were adopted in China during the week of July 4th. We were there for July 4th to celebrate their 13th & 8th Adoption Anniversary. This was certainly the icing to our celebration. I remember that Ranger Stan was so excited to learn about their anniversary and asked the girls many questions. We all loved him!!

Thanks Kaye! That will be so special to share in his scrapbook. And knowing Stan, he probably still remembers you and your family.

Posted a picture of Stan on first post

I'm going to locate our photos with Ranger Stan. I 'll have to try and get DDs to figure out to post or will send to you as a PM.

P.S. I've been going to tell you that I usually cheer for your Panthers if not playing our Saints. Jake D.'s Dad and my DD's Godmother went to school together in the big city of Breaux Bridge.

Yea, unfortunately they lost today. But we love Jake up here in the Carolinas. He is so passionate about the game and his love for his team.

What a nice idea. I unfortunately have not met Ranger Stan, but was thinking that if people have pics with him that might be nice to post so that you could include them in the scrapbook. Just a thought. Have fun!

:tinker: Bumping and hoping for more Pixie Dust on this thread

I met him briefly on our first WL visit - sweet man :lovestruc

I had no clue he used to be a FW driver... do you know if he used to drive the trams around FW in the 70s? Those drivers were great - and funny! :rotfl: I always felt that the FW drivers were a fantastic group.

Im not sure exactly when he started driving a bus at FW, but he indicated to me he drove for quite a few yrs before taking the job at WL. As far as I know he just drove buses around the loops, but I could be wrong. I will try to ask a bit more info next time I can get him on the phone or see him.
