Does anyone remember 'Emmasgrammy'..has anyone had contact?

I also remember this horrible tragedy and think of the family often. God bless them on this anniversary.

Hello all,
I tried to call Lynda and Mike yesterday, but there was no answer - I did leave a message that their Disfamily had this thread going and there was a great deal of thoughts and prayers for them - I am hoping that they all were able to get out of town during this terrible time for them. the last time I spoke with them, they were still trying to find some kind of help with their struggles - Sophie and Emma were their only grandchildren and of course Amanda was their oldest daughter and the only one married. David had loss all of his family prior to losing Amanda and the girls. I am sure someday they will come back when the struggles aren't so overwhelming and they can smile again.
Blessings always to Lynda, Mike David and the rest of the families. special thoughts and special prayers go to this family.
Much love always
Shirley and Norm

I have thought of the family from time to time over the past year, and hugged my children and grandchildren more because you can never hug too much, given our short time here on earth. Lynda and her family are in my prayers often. I, too, make sure the smoke detector batteries are changed frequently, and we added more detectors after the tragedy.

We pray every single night for this family. They and a few other families were so gracious to allow us DIS-ers to share in their grief. That is a very hard thing to do.

While this was a horrible and unpredictable accident, we also turn our computers off every single night. We always remember our dear DIS friends when we do it.

We think of you and pray for you! Tonight we will pray for extra heaping helpings of blessings and peace and strength.

I'm new to the cruise side of DISboards... and didn't have the pleasure of reading some of her funny posts, as so often mentioned... My heart and prayers go out to her and her family. :grouphug:

I remember this tragedy too. My thoughts and prayer's go out to this family.

Teri

Gosh.

It's amazing how much it still hurts, and we only knew them through the boards.

Feels just like yesterday.....

I can't believe it has been a year. It is all so sad. I hope this family is able to find some peace and joy in their lives. I can't imagine the pain they are still going through.

Emmasgrammy's "bathing suit" story is still the funniest story I have ever read on these boards. I pray that she is able to remember the good times.

Friends are the angels that lift us up when we're too hurt to fly. Mike, Linda and David. Please know that you have many, many Dis-Friends that are lifting you up in prayer to a loving and powerful God and HE is the one who is able to bring healing.

Amanda, Emma and Sophie will always live in our hearts and you will remain in our prayers.

My heart and prayers go out to them.

Jim, you said it so well, again. It's amazing the affinity we feel for other DIS'sers.

That is so true.

I missed the part about a computer starting the fire. Does anyone remember the details on how that happened? We have 5 computers in the house and they are left on very frequently. Didn't think it was really possible for them to start a fire, but if it is, I'd like to do what I can to avoid a potential tragedy.

I would also be interested to know about the risks of leaving a computer on, my sisters think nothing of leaving their computer on in their room overnight, i will be sure to make sure they don't anymore though!

My kids do too...they sort of use screensavers for night lights. I've always been told that it's actually better to leave PC's on. I'm a software developer and there are probably 1000's of PC's at my company that are left on 24/7. My two oldest PC's run very hot...can almost pull double-duty as space heaters if I needed them too, but I still have a hard time imagining how they could actually cause a fire.

The computer was left on at night and it is what caught fire. It burned the house and ended up taking the lives of Mom (Amanda - Lynda's daughter) and both the children (Emma and Sophie - just an infant at the time).

I'm familiar with the fact that a computer caused the fire and the tragedy that resulted, however I am curious HOW the computer managed to catch fire. They typically don't just burst into flames...leaving a computer on overnight should be no more dangerous than leaving a lamp or TV on. Was their some sort of major malfunction with the computer? Was it put in a spot where ventilation would have been seriously obstructed?

I have looked for the old thread, but can't seem to find it. I think the boards were upgraded after this time period. I think there was an explanation on there. I will try to keep searching. I think there was even a link to the local newspaper that had stories on it with an explanation.

As I recall, they never determined for certain that the computer started the fire, I recall they worded it this way "it started in the area where the computer was".
Smoke detectors throughout your house are key in escaping any fire.
And how many of you open up your desktop computer on a regular basis and blow out all the dust kittens with compressed air? I do it every 2 months, and there always a bunch of dust kittens inside.
Looking around my family room, I see the following potential fire sources, 2 computers, a TV, a cable box, VCR, DVD, stereo, a DSL modem, cell phone charger, ceiling fan and light fixtures
And remember, computers, tv's, vcrs, cable boxes, dsl modems are always using some power unless you physical unplug them, even if they are in the off position. .

Shirley, our DISBoard angel just e-mailed some of the beautiful messages from all of you. I'd like to thank you all and I sincerely apologize for not keeping in touch. This has been a horrible year for all of us and it just so hard to do anything Disney. It's great to have wonderful memories, but sometimes it just hurts too bad to remember them. Our family truly appreciates all the love and suppport we recieved from the boards. We wish the Ship Of Fools a great cruise and a safe return. I really miss all of you. Thanks for the good thoughts. You have a special place in my heart. I love you all. Lynda
