Does anyone regret buying DVC? Or wish they'd chosen a different home resort?

This is similar to our story. We bought at VB at a great price with incentives. We stayed there once but all other trips have been to WDW. While sometimes I do not get my first or second choice of accomodations at the 7 month window, I always manage to find something and I am never disappointed.

Same for us, we own HHI, VB and VWL. HHI is my favorite...VWL is next and I do not like VB at all! We always get a room at 7 months. I am a big planner so, I always book at 7 months.

our only regret is that we bought directly through disney the week lehman busted and the economy tanked. if we had a crystal ball, we would have waited a few months and hit the resale market. but in the grand scheme of things, we're only talking about a few thousand dollars. amortized over the life of our contract, it's not going to make or break us.

We knew all along that resale would be the way to go for us. We originally considered buying at OKW or SSR because of the lower cost of points and extended contracts. I am so glad that we decided to go with our hearts though and bought at our first choice- VWL.

So, no regrets. We bought where we absolutely wanted to call "home" and are really happy. It's great that we get to try other resorts too, as I have also fallen for BWV.

I would say to definitely stay where you are considereing buying. The pictures and opinions of others really can't give you the full experience of the resort to know if you actually like it or not.

We made the exact same decision, Snow. We considered OKW for the cheaper contract and SSR for the cheaper and extended contract. We eventually decided to go with the "buy where you want to stay crowd" and thus bought 200 pts. at VWL. We couldn't be more thrilled with our decision. The Christmas trip to VWL itself was worth the price difference! We have also stayed at OKW and BWV and enjoyed them both. This September we are trying BCV for the first time...can't wait. And frankly, after paying increasing maintenance fees for a few years, we are actually happy that our contract expires in 2042! I do wish that had purchased sooner as we spent nearly $5000 renting points over three trips.

In the end, I'm really not certain if buying DVC has saved us a substantial amount of money (though it probably has), but it sure has produced a lot of happiness and incredible memories. No regrets whatsoever.

Only regret is the size of the resale contract. Instead of buying one 400 pt. contract, I wish we had bought four 100 pt contracts. No sure how much of problem we are going to have when it comes time to sell but for the next several years we will be content.

We love our DVC ownership. The only downside is how they keep downsizing the original perks.

My friend is a DVC owner and she noticed today about her next stay it says in print that she will only get one package of coffee a day, maid service will have to be paid for. I will ask her again where she found this butttt it ALSO says that regular guests will have 5 packages of coffee a day and regular maid service. Isn't that backwards considering some DVC members are paying in the thousands for a DVC package and regular people pay 100-3000 for a stay?

EDITED TO SAY: Found it!! :scared1:

The resort's reservation policies is be the same as other DVC properties. A tip for DVC members: there is no daily maid service, and the coffee supply is for one day only. Additional coffee may be brought from home or purchased in the Atlantic Wear and Wardrobe Emporium at the Beach Club. Note that this applies only to DVC members; non-members staying at this resort receive daily maid service and the coffee supply is be refilled daily.

Since we have owned that has always been the policy--stay on points, no daily maid service and no coffee refills. Reserve through CRO and pay cash for the villa and you get all the "perks".

No regrets here. Wish we had bought sooner though.

We love the flexibility. We have treated friends and family members and celebrated my dd's 16th birthday w/her friends.

My sons have started to go now with their girlfriends and I know some day they will take their family too. Once the kids are older, they can wander off on their own too.

We have taken 4 cruises (always using a combination of points and cash - always had 2 cabins). We have traded once to the Royal Sands, Cancun and had a great experience.

We also started to break up our WDW vacations with HH and Vero Beach. We have enjoyed each resort. Just trying all the resorts, new restaurant, a tour, ride each time is a whole new experience. We just got back last week and we went to Universal for two days (mostly for Harry Potter). We had not been there in 10 years. The same goes for Seaworld, etc.

We are going for the Food & Wine for the first time just dh and I and I am still looking forward to seeing WDW during the Christmas Holiday. We have much more to see and do. It's more about the resorts now than the parks. I am also going to try a trade with RCI every few years. Gotta give everything a try once.

We bought 320 BLT points and do not regret it. We are actually looking into buying another 160 points. I do not think you will regret it.

I have 360 points at BLT and I love it. By Sept 2011 we'll have used our time share 4 times since we bought it (back in 2008).

I'm continuing the trend here and saying our only regret is not buying in sooner. We prefer staying at the deluxe resorts so it really has made sense for us. We bought AKV in 2008 (250 pts) and have since added on 100 pts at BLT. We are planners (we have to be because of my job) so we always know at the 11 month mark when we will be going on vacation. We've also had no problem switching to another resort at the seven month mark. We've stayed or have reservations to stay at every on-site DVC resort except for BWV which we're not really interested in staying at. We're also booked to stay at Vero. We are able to go at slower times of the year because we homeschool so that has probably helped in terms of being able to get in anywhere we want at the seven month mark. That may change when he's off to college and our window of time to vacation with him will narrow. However, even if we could never stay anywhere but our home resorts we would still be very happy.

So, no. No regrets. We are very happy with our decision.

No regrets at all! My wife and I bought into DVC in 1993 as we wanted to take our kids and niece and nephews down for a complete Disney experience. That meant staying on Disney property. Well the cost of a room at Disney that would accommodate 2 adults and 5 kids was not cheap. We looked at DVC and realized that the cost of this one trip plus park passes for all these kids (the incentives then were free park passes until the year 2000) paid the majority of the buy in costs. As a result instead of one nice trip we have had many wonderful trips with many other family members over the years.

Now that the kids are grown and we are in the empty nest stage, we still enjoy going down in the winter months to enjoy the weather. We now take our mothers (both in their 80's) for a get away. They love the deluxe treatment of staying at a DVC resort.

What a good question!

My answer....sort of. We were torn between buying AKV or BLT. We went with AKV based on the point chart. You can really save on points there or splurge and stay concierge. Well after doing a split stay at both recently...I fell in LOVE with BLT,whereas my husband prefers Kidani. I don't love AKVs location, but I do love that point chart!

Well, except I waited so long to buy in, which seems to be a theme here:lmao:. I bought 150 points at SSR and have added another 100 to that. Now I have enough to go twice a year, Flower and Garden in May and Food and Wine in October...:thumbsup2.

No regrets here....stay Concierge at AKV and get daily maidservice AND unlimited cappuccino!

No regrets here! We bought in 2006 after our kids were grown and we will be making our 7th trip to OKW in Oct.

Do I regret buying, No, am I satisfied with the current management to the point I recommend buying now, No.

I recommend to anyone buying now, make sure you know exactly what you are getting because sadly some agents are not being truthful about the program.

Basically all you are guaranteed is booking your home resort at 11 months, anything else offered can be taken away at anytime.
