I have read every single one of his books...LOVE them.

I also have read a couple Matthew Riley books and am wondering if I will like the Clive Cussler series with Dirk Pitt???? have you read those?

I need more books like the above to read....anyone have any other authors to suggest??;)

I LOVE the James Rollins & Matthew Reilly books. Yes you will like the Clive Cussler books - Dirk Pitt, Kurt Austin and the Oregon Files.

I have found I can read them over & over again. Right now I am waiting for the next book in a Matthew Reilly series - won't be out until next year.

Another author along the same lines is David Gibbons.

Here is a website that is great for finding authors that are similar to Matthew Reilly & James Rollins:

http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/

Do a search by author for either James Rollins or Matthew Reilly. Near the bottom of the page it will list similar authors.

I love James Rollins - just finished his newest one "Doomsday Key", and I see that he has another due out in October - YAY!

I have not read Matthew Reilly, but have read just about every Clive Cussler out there, I enjoy him as well.

Two things about Cussler's writings. 1) The earlier ones are not as good as the newer ones. They were a little shallow-er, and a lot more action-driven rather than plot-driven. 2) Dirk Pitt, in real life, would be obnoxious. He is practically perfect in every rugged man way you can think of. Sexist pig personified, :lmao: and always gets the bad guys AND the girl. IMHO Cussler also spends a little too much time describing his cars and his guns. I am really not interested in the military specs of every weapon Dirk packs (and the list is long and varied), just tell the story already. Still they are good stories, overall.

ETA: I was just thinking about this, and wanted to add... even if the earlier Dirk Pitt books aren't quite as good IMHO, you still need to read them. There's a lot of character development that takes place in them.

I just bought Doomsday Key last night. Can't wait to read it, but I will finish the David Gibbons that I am currently reading first.

I will look at my list of books and see which authors are similar to James Rollins & Matthew Reilly.

Have you read "The Seven Ancient Wonders" or "The Six Sacred Stones" by Matthew Reilly? I can't wait until the next one comes out "The Five Greatest Warriors". Now it is due out this year instead of next year. Just found that out.

Another couple good authors are David Lynn Goleman & Thomas Greanias. I have read a couple of theirs and really enjoyed them.

On your recommendation (I love the DisBoards  ) I went to Amazon and looked these up, then I put "The Seven Ancient Wonders" on hold at my library. I can't wait for it to come in... looks so good!

One other thing about the Clive Cussler books... when you read the Dirk Pitt series, be sure to look for the "older man, grizzled beard," etc character. Clive always writes himself a guest appearance in each book. Hard to find in a few of the books, but he is always in there, and its fun to look for him.

I like Rollins, cussler, etc but I think of this type of writing as "candy" fiction. I can read an entire novel on a single plane ride. Not deep, but fun.

For the same type of work, but more in depth, try Robert Ludlam...

Actually Amazon.com has it on presale with a release date of Jan 5, 2010. The Fantastic Fiction website said 2009, but with no actual date.

I know I was like, "WHAT?!?!?!? There HAS to be MORE!!!!" Then I found out that the next one wasn't coming out until next year. :headache: So I will have to read them again before the next one comes out. But I have already read them twice, so a third time is no problem.

Which book would you guys say is Clive Cussler's best?

For me, Vixon 03 or Raise the Titanic.

BTW, you might also check out Alistair MacClean. Many of his books were made into movies...

I liked Sahara best - just ignore the really cruddy movie that was made of it. :sad2:

Finished Doomsday Key the other day and loved it.

Now I am reading "Lost City" by Clive Cussler. I was also able to order "Hells Island" by Matthew Reilly. Can't wait for that to get here.
