Does anyone out there want to be my Dis Friend? 3 PTRs and 1 1/2 TRs in Progress!

Um so, I'm kind of upset.. As I mentioned before, Splash Mountain is my all time favorite attraction. And I've always wanted DBF to ride it but that's just never happened. When we went to Disneyland it was closed for refurb and when we went to WDW it wasn't running that day AT ALL due to technial difficulties. Well, alas, when planning our Jan. trip I was determined to have him ride it. But, what should I come to find out today? Splash Mountain will be closed for refurb Jan 1 - 31, 2011.:sad2: He is just not meant to ride this attraction...

I saw that, too. My kids are going to be very, very disappointed. I keep reassuring myself that it'll probably be too cold to get water anyway... ;)

Oh my THREE weeks! You are so very close!

Now that I'm back I'm going back to the 5 countdown for snacks...I had never snacked before, but I sure as heck did this time! Yay for the dining plan!

FIVE weeks!

1. Tie Dye Cheesecake at Pop. I don't even like cheesecake. But I like this one!
2. Mickey Head rice crispy treat on a stick, dipped in chocolate
3. Fruit Tart from Sunshine Seasons (one of the best I've ever had)
4. Cupcakes at Starring Rolls. I would write this for all five if I could. Best use of a snack credit ever.
5. Mickey Head ice cream bar. Just because it's a classic.

FOUR weeks, from best to worst (and this is definately different than if I had answered before our trip)

1. MK...just SO much to do there, I feel like it's the best bang for your buck.
2. Epcot...best for food, hands down, and definately second for rides when you're travelling with the preschool crowd.
3. AK...just can't beat the safari and FOTLK. Really, that's about all I need there. It's beautiful, I love the parade, and I just don't need lots of attractions here.
4. DHS...I think this is bumped to the bottom because it's useless with little kids. All the big rides here are "grown up" rides (or over 40 inches, as "grown up" as that is!). I'm also just not in love with the theming as well. We did have some great moments here, but it's at the bottom of my list for now.

THREE weeks! How can you choose? They're all so wonderful! I have only stayed at 3 on property hotels, so this one isn't tough.

1. Pop Century...I LOVE this hotel. Everything about it is completely me and I am happy just being there!
2. Caribbean Beach...I loved the island in the middle and the hammocks. Very serene.
3. Pop Century. Haha. Actually, I stayed at ASMovies, but I didn't care for it. So I will list Pop twice.

Dream Hotels. I will be vague here so I can list all of them.

1. Something in the Boardwalk area. What's not to like? The boat ride between the hotels, EP, and DHS? The short walk to DHS? The wonderful boardwalk atmosphere? The beautiful hotels?
2. Something foresty/animaly...AKL, Wilderness Lodge...I love that woodsy feel.
3. Something on the monorail. I actually feel like I wouldn't feel "at home" in the deluxes, because it's not my style, but I could make it work. The monorail is so very convenient!

Ah, this was more than fun to get caught up on. How I love your PTR! And you're almost there!

Well, if you remember way back when I started my PTR, I told you that we have an ADR at 1900 Park Fare for our first night Nov. 30. Well, I booked this reservation before we decided to go MVMCP this night. Our reservation is at 6:00pm and I know by the time we eat and get back to MK it'll be close to 7:15-7:30. Well I'm afraid that getting into line for the Dwarfs this late will leave us waiting for a VERY long time. So, I've been looking for an earlier reservation ever since we decided. Well, tonight, I finally found a reservation for 2 people at Crystal Palace at 5:00pm. I feel a lot more comfortable with this time but I'm so attached to my 1900 Park Fare reservation. This is where I need your help...

Which reservation do I keep?

I already made a reservation at 1900 Park Fare for our March trip to make up for missing it this time and I could cancel my Crystal Palace for March?

I can't cancel my current 1900 Park Far until tomorrow when they open and I'm going to post it on the Cancelled ADR thread but I just need your opinions before I make a final decision on which to cancel!

So, what do you think? Thanks!

I saw that, too. My kids are going to be very, very disappointed. I keep reassuring myself that it'll probably be too cold to get water anyway... ;)

Amanda

That's probably why they refurb it during Jan? But it's still really disappointing... it's my favorite.

Aw I'm so glad you responded to all the countdowns again! It's so fun to read everyones responses! I definitely want to try the tye-dye cheesecake some time and I think I'll definitely be checking out the Starring Rolls cupcakes this trip!

I agree with your park analysis. The majority of my last trips have been all adults, so I'm sure touring with kids puts a whole new perspective on things!

I also know what you mean about the deluxe resorts. I often find it silly to spend the extra money on the deluxes unless there's a huge benefit to staying there. For example, we chose BLT for the marathon weekend just so we could use the monorail to the race in the morning but we're barely even going into MK. But, I'm just as happy staying at the values and moderates. All the hotels have their own charm and I just love them all!

Well, it's finally time to talk about..

Trip #3 - Our First Half Marathon
When: Jan 7-9, 2011
Who: DBF and I
Where: Walt Disney World - Bay Lake Tower

Now let's do a little background for this trip. Now, DBF and I are pretty active and athletic but we've never come close to participating in something like a half marathon. DBF played baseball in college and I actually ran four years of varsity track in college but I was a sprinter. My races never lasted more than 400 meters (that's a quarter of a mile...).

Well, DBF and I were driving to my parents house when I brought up the subject of the half marathon after researching it online and on the DIS.

Well, it only took about 2 days of begging DBF to run 13.1 miles with me to convince him. And we paid our registration fees.

Now, we've been training for 2 1/2 months and every time we do one of our long runs I have to ask myself.. "Why did no one tell me I was crazy, and that willingly WANTING to run 13.1 miles was taking my Disney OBSESSION just a LITTLE TOO FAR"

That being said, it's been liberating and a blast! I couldn't be more excited about the upcoming race and I'm so glad and proud that I made the decision and committment.

I will do updates about my training so far and obviously planning for the non-running portions of the trip.

Ok, here's the original plan.. which you know has changed... but I'll start at the beginning...

Jan. 7
Fly from Cleveland to Orlando.
Check-in, drop off bags
Head to Race Expo for packet pick-up
Then spend the day at a park(s)
Dinner at Kona Cafe
Wishes from Poly Beach
Get a good nights sleep

Jan. 8
3:00am - wake up
3:45am- catch the monorail
5:40am- race starts
8:30-8:45am - finish race
Head back to BLT to shower/rest
Head to the MK for some attractions
Dinner at 5:50pm at Cinderella's Royal Table
MSEP and Wishes
Back to BLT

Jan. 9
7:00am Breakfast at Chef Mickey's
8:30am- Catch ME

Now, like I said, this has changed DRASTICALLY but I wanted you to see what we started with... I'll do a new day by day itinerary within the next few days!

Crystal Palace is just so perfectly located for going to MVMCP, I don't think you can beat that place and time for a reservation. Can you do Park Faire another night or another trip?

I think you're right. It really is the perfect time and place to eat for going to the party. I made a reservation for 1900 Park Fare during our March trip to make up not going this time. But, with getting to the party sooner and in line the for the dwarfs sooner that may leave enough time to do the meet & greet at the party with the Step Mother and Step Sisters...

Thanks for your input! I just needed some reassurance!

Sorry for the late reply to your distress signal. :upsidedow CP is a great ADR to have for a MVMCP night. The Dwarfs are not to be missed!

I agree. I would do CP, since it's right there in the park.

Thanks for the reassurance! I decided to go with Crystal Palace! I really couldn't beat the time and location for a MVMCP night. Plus, this solves my dilemma of where to find Piglet, we can get in line for the dwarfs early, and if there's extra time we can meet the step mom and sisters at the party!

Sorry I've been missing for the past week but I've been so busy. My job has become hectic with trying to renew customer's contracts. Also, DBF and I are in the process of buying a house, sorta. We've been touring houses on the weekends but it's so hard to pick one so I've been spending all my free time on the internet looking for houses. I'm hoping one of the ones we look at this weekend will be THE ONE.

So, here's my 2 day late TWO WEEK COUNTDOWN!

Two of my favorite Disney Pixie Dust Moments:

2. I spent my 24th birthday at Disney this past June. I had never celebrated a Birthday at the park and was so excited. I got plenty of Birthday wishes and special surprises but my favorite was at the Plaza! The table was covered in confetti when we arrived and throughout the meal the little kid at the table next to ours kept stealing it :rotfl: Then at the end of the meal, the waiter came out with a huge cupcake and announced to the whole restaurant that it was my birthday and everyone sang to me. I was thoroughly embarrassed but it was an awesome memory!

1. The fairies are my favorite characters and I LOVE the meet & greet. Well, March 2009 I was able to meet Tink, Iridessa, and Fawn (both times I went to Pixie Hollow). So in April 2010, I was really hoping to meet new fairies. We went in first thing in the morning and I met Tink, Iridessa, and Terence. Well, at least I got to meet one new fairy. So, the next MK day(our last day) I tried again. We met Tink, Fawn, and Terence. Man, why could I never time it right to meet Silvermist and Rosetta? So, after the fireworks that night we rushed right to Pixie Hollow. I get in the room and who is there? Tink, Iridessa, and Fawn. :sad2: Don't get me wrong, I like them but I just really wanted to meet the other two. The CM begins to point out who's in there and asks if I know all the characters and there talents. I say "yes, but this is my fifth time in Pixie Hollow and I was soo hoping to meet Silvermist and Rosetta" She explained they'd be out in 20mins if we wanted to come back. We proceed through the meet & greet and as we're about leave another CM stops me.
CM: "You want to meet Silvermist and Rosetta?"
Me: "Yes, I always seem to miss them"
CM: "ok, follow me"
Me: ????
We follow the CM to the exit door
CM: "wait right here, I'll come back to get you. If anyone asks what you're doing tell them you're waiting to be back doored"
Me: Um.... "I love you" (yes, I really told him that)
We waiting about 15 minutes before the CM came back to get us and we were the first ones in to meet Silvermist and Rosetta!
I thanked the original CM as soon as I went in and she said she "didn't know if it was possible but since it wasn't too busy (the wait was still 45 mins) that they could squeeze us in"
I was beyond happy and thanked them both profusely!! It was such a magical moment! And how wonderful those CMs are!

So, what are some of your favorite memories, experiences, or pixie dust moments?

Aww, cute countdown this week! And less than two weeks! SO exciting!

Two of my favorite pixie dust moments (hard to choose, but these are the highlights):

1. J.J. got a sword as a souvineer while we were there. He brought it everywhere for a few days, and that included meeting the princesses. They oohed and ahhed over him, asking him questions and talking about their princes and their swords...it was so very cute!

2. J.J. was very shy with the characters, but when we met Tinkerbell, he was still refusing to talk but at the end she knelt down next to him and whispered a secret in his ear, and gave him a big kiss and left a big lipstick kiss on his cheek. DH asked him what the secret was, but he wouldn't tell. I know what it was, because I heard her (it had to do with captain hook and the crocodile making a tick tock noise) and he still talks about captain hook and the crocodile every day, and we've been back for nearly two weeks!

Pixie dust moments are so very cute, and they make a special trip even more special!

Love pixie dust moments. :goodvibes

Good luck...hope you find the right house this weekend.

Goodluck on the house hunt

My favorite 2 moments are probably both with Cinderella.

In 2008 Claire had gotten sick while we were at HS. I took her back to the room wheil DH played, and then he came back for awhile, so I could have some time at the park. Claire had slept almost the whole day. We had a ADR at 1900PF and weren't sure if we wanted to go or not. Claire woke up feeling good and cried because she might be missing out on Price Charming.
So we got her dressed and went over. We had a late ADR and were basically the last table of the night for Character visits. Prince Charmin was wonderful and swirled Claire around and showed her alot of attenetion, which made her super excited, since that was the only reason she wanted to eat here...for the Prince.....but then Cinderella came over and she knelt right down and had a long conversation with Claire and told her to never forget she was a princess, etc. Which then put Cinderella high up on the notch of favorites.

The other special time was in 2009 at CRT. Again we had a very late ADR. We agaion were one of the last to be seated. We got in line to see Cinderella and it was nice. Then we sat and wait for our name to be called to go up to eat. Another family came in and visited with Cindy and then we all just kind of waited. And then Cinderella got up and came over to Claire and sat next to her and had a good 5 minute conversation with her. Claire was just in heaven.

Thank you all for sharing your special moments with me! I love reading about them because to me, it's these special touches that set a vacation at Disney apart from other destinations.

That's so cute about J.J.! I bet he looked so cute with the little lipstick mark! I love that he still talks about it two weeks later because it really shows how much he enjoyed the experience.

Love pixie dust moments. :goodvibes

Good luck...hope you find the right house this weekend.

Thank you! We finally found one we liked and we put an offer in today so now it's a waiting game...

How special! I love when the characters go above and beyond to make it a special experience. And I love that you included pictures! The one of Claire and Cinderella sitting on the bench is adorable!
