We leave for AKL in less than a month... I have not requested anything in regards to our room.
Does anyone not make requests and just hope for the best or is this a risky strategy?

Just curious as to what the other Dis folks do!

The only request we ever make is for a no smoking room. We leave the rest up to "magic". We have never been disappointed.

(knocking wood...arriving in 11 day;) )

I have never made any requests either. I am just not the "requesting" type of person. Unfortunately, we have never received any special "magic" either. But we don't mind since we don't expect it. Someday, maybe they will offer us something special.

I have gone several times without making a room requests. I usually make a bunk beds request at AKL but that is the only request I have ever made.

Six previous trips, have never made a request and have been more than satisfied with what we have been given. Not very demanding; we are simply happy to be in WDW.

When we get to the room we are pretty much down for the count:D So no special requests.:earsboy:

i usually request a no smoking also. i think one year the girl gave us our map with room and bldg, and i said "oh no not the last bldg. country fair or something like that (asmusic), she goes oh wait a min. then we got a better bldg.lol. they were very nice about it.

We usually don't make requests except for non smoking. Most recently we stayed in the tower at the Contemporary. We didn't request a particular view (on previous vistis we have had the MK view requested on check in). At check in we requested a MK view and they said that it was unavailable so we took the room on bay lake. We loved it! It was so peaceful. Now if we stay in the tower again I don't know which I would choose. I think I would leave it up to fate again. I think by planning so much sometimes people miss out on the surprises.

We don't make requests either. That gives the CM's a chance to sprinkle a little pixie dust on your room location. :)

I, like the others, have only made a non smoking room request. Other than that I don't, honestly because I am not in my room a whole lot. Only for winding down at night, sleeping and getting ready in the morning.

On our last trip all we requested was a non-smoking room. We stayed at POR and got a room with a trundle. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but after reading some threads here, I guess we got a free upgrade. They didn't charge us any extra for it and others have said they have to pay $15 a night if they requested it. It actually worked out great, because DD5 did not want to sleep with DS2 because he is a huge bedhog, so she used the trundle and DS got his own "big bed" which he thought was very cool! :p

Since this is my first trip to WDW, I wouldn't even know which are of the resort to request let alone which room :earsgirl: At this point, I'm just glad to be able to stay on-site. I suppose after some additional trips and stays at other resorts, I might reach a point where I need a specific room/building/view/etc.

The only request we make is for a non-smoking room. We've always been pleased with the results no matter where we end up.

We request non smoking always. DH is a smoker, but having a non smoking room means he has to go outside to smoke. (and avoid the temptation of smoking with our DD's in the room).

In Jan 05 I think I am going to request Love Bug at check in. We stayed there last year, at the very last building and it was great because it was soooo close to our car.

I always request a room close to the buses and food court because my sister needs the closer location because of her disability. Other than that we're always happy with whatever happens!!

I never made requests other than non-smoking & close to the pool before this year. Since we try to stay somewhere new everytime, I haven't been familiar enough with the resorts to be too detailed in my requests.

All that changed this year, since I found out about and have been lurking on Disboards. The thread about specific rooms at the WL and the one with balcony view photographs, helped me make quite detailed requests for our upcoming stay there in two weeks. (Woods Veiw, bunk beds, 5th or 6th floor, MK view)

I think room requests are more important at some resorts than others. In hindsight, I wish I had known enough about the CBR to make a detailed room request, but I've been thrilled with the assigned rooms at POFQ & AKL. I intentionally didn't make any request at AKL, because I was hoping for the free upgrade from Standard to Savanah. (We got it!):teeth:

I just request non-smoking. Other than that, I don't really care. I'm not one who needs a view since I spend so little time in my room. I just let the CM choose. That way I know I won't be disappointed if I don't get what I request.

We only request non-smoking, too. I leave the rest until check-in. If, upon seeing the room location, don't think we'll like where we are, I ask if they have anything else. Usually they do and it only takes a minute to change it.

I always request non-smoking for medical reasons....dd is asthmatic so it bothers her. Otherwise, the only times I have made requests are for a particular bldg. Like Tokelau at the Polynesian or Jazz at AllStarMusic. For my stays in August and November, I'm letting the cards fall where they may!!!
