Does anyone not care for any of the food at Disney?

I can't believe I'm even posting this... but I've got my flame suit on. ;)

After talking with many others, and reading many posts here....I'm starting to think maybe we're the only ones.

We just plain did NOT like the food at Disney! We were there for 2 weeks and tried just about every counter service place there was. Also tried several TS meals. After being disappointed with those we cancelled the rest of them rather than continue to waste big bucks on food we didn't care for. We were there over 4th of July so we were paying a holiday surcharge on top of the regular prices per person!

I resorted to just ordering a kids meal and sharing with my youngest so I would have enough to sustain me... but didn't much care for anything I was eating. And I started buying big fruit cups and McDonalds fries.

We're going back for 2 weeks again this summer and am so looing forward to the trip... except for the food. We will have the option to fix a few things in our room... but in all honesty we're in the parks so much that we'll probably just end up eating there.

You are not the first one I heard this from. out of curiosity, which restaurants did you go to? We went to WDW back in 2001 and to be honest, I don't remember where we ate or if I liked it! This time we're going back with the kids and the dining plan.

I can't imagine someone not caring for the food. There is such a variety! We will be there next week and are looking forward to our meals (except for the weight gain). :confused3

Sorry it didn't work out for you but we actually LOVE the majority of WDW Restaurants. Of course, it's just DH and myself so we go to their signature restaurants 99% of the time because of their great food and service.

We have eaten at a handful of CS places, I would agree that the food was nothing special. BUT, places like California Grill (best Sushi I have EVER had and chocolate souffle), Jiko, Artist's Point @ WL, Flying Fish Cafe (best mussels), Le Cellier,Victoria & Alberts...we have never had a bad meal or poor service.

When we travel with family and kids; they love Whispering Canyon @ WL, Brown Derby, Sci-Fi Theater, Chefs de France, Rose and Crown and the Cape May Buffet.

To each his own...

I'd be interested to know where the OP I ate. I enjoy the majority of the food I have in Disney.

For the most part we love all the CS, snacks and TS places at WDW (a few bad eggs in the bunch), that is the reason we go to WDW :rotfl2:

Would like to know where you ate and what you didnt like

I'm curious which table service restaurants, too. We enjoy almost all of them and love quite a few.

We do avoid counter service meals and buffets (other than Boma breakfast).

I'm curious too. There is such a variety that I can't imagine not liking any of it! We don't care for most counter service, but that's mainly because we live in an area without good restaurants and we get more than our fill of burgers/chicken strips/pizza at home on the days I don't feel like cooking. We *love* most of the Disney table service we've tried, and planning ADRs is one of the best parts of planning a trip.

Please, let us know what places you didn't like and why. I'm sure you'll get a lot of helpful suggestions of places that you might enjoy more!

Yes, I am also curious where the OP ate! I have found many of the cs places to be really good, ABC Commissary, Wolfgang Puck Express, Flame Tree BBQ, Columbia Harbor House and Yakitori House all come to mind. As for full service meals, if you did a lot of character buffets then I can see where you might feel underwhelmed. I still love them, but its about the fun and atmosphere I can't get at home vs. the food. But they are very expensive esp at peak times and that can lead to disappointment if you start to think of them in relation to I paid this much for this sort of thing.

I am sorry that in two weeks you had so many strike outs, what a shame. Maybe you are just a picky eater? And I don't mean that in a bad way, but do you also have a hard time finding restaurants that suit your palette at home as well?

I think for a theme park that feeds millions of people a year, they do a pretty good job. And many of the signature restaurants are incredible and those are places I would go just for the food if was a local.

Better luck next time, maybe eat offsite as much as possible!

Are you picky eater? I ask because you said that you ate kids meals instead of adult meals just to have something to eat. There are plenty of places that have burgers/chicken strips/hot dogs/etc on the menu. Perhaps you could do a little homework before your next trip and find restaurants that are more your style for your in-park meals. I know that I need to plan even my CS meals because my DD is a vegetarian and I need to know where she can get non-meat kids meals.

I would also suggest that you rent a car so you can eat off-site :).

I actually was thinking about this while I was cleaning LOL! I was wondering what kind of restaurants you eat at home?

I can say I am unimpressed with a lot of the food at Disney (the prices charged are more than the quality demands, if you will), but I am not so repulsed that I resort to eating the children's meals.

I enjoy a wide variety of food (both in terms of different types of proteins, carbs, & grains, and across ethnic/cultural lines) and cook quite well myself, so most of the food at Disney, IMHO, is not worth raving about. Several places I enjoy are far more about the ambience than the actual meal. I just figure it is kind of like Applebees/Friendly's/ Fridays/Bennigans - not the nastiest, but not orgasmic.

Wow, where do you like to eat at home? There is such variety at Disney, i just cannot fathom someone disliking all the food there. Dining there is one of my favorite parts of the trip!

I'm sure you are not the only one who doesn't like Disney food and I guess it's just a matter of taste. My husband and I live less then 10 minutes from WDW and we eat on property all the time. We definitely have our favorites but we have never been totally disappointed. Sorry to hear that you were.

As far as where we ate...

Magic Kingdom~ Crystal Palace, Cosmic Rays, Pinocchio Haus, Pecos Bill

I did enjoy the chicken at Cosmic Rays and DH has a taco bowl at Pecos that he raved about.

Epcot~ Electric Umbrella, Liberty Inn and funnel cake ( those were delicious ;) )

DHS~ Hollywood and Vine, Toy Story Pizza Planet, and hot dogs some place but I can't remember where

AK~ Pizzafari, Flame Tree BBQ

I did enjoy Flame Tree

Also ate at Chef Mickey's which was just beyond horrible! Worth the price for the characters though. And also at POP food court a few times.

I am a picky eater... and I will admit that. I don't like ethnic foods for the most part. No asian, mexican, seafood, etc. So typical american food is what I like. Good steak, potatoes, hamburgers, chicken, pizza, etc. The buns of the burgers and hot dogs tasted weird to me. The pizza was tolerable but not a favorite. The "prime rib" ( if that's what they want to call it) at the buffet's was just plain awful.

We did rent a car and ate offsite a few times. But It was usually more of a hassle than it's worth because we wanted to stay in the parks. Plus... once off property we didn't like the area so much.

I'm sooo looking forward to our next trip and really want to have some better experiences dining wise. I'm not opposed to spending money on a good meal... if it is in fact good!

I would love any suggestions you guys could give me. :goodvibes

I could very well be wrong, but I'm gonna guest the thread starter is from very small town, USA. I know several disney servers, and I've been told many times, that small town folks are the ones who often complain about the food. They are just set in their small town ways, and not open to new ideas.

It sounds like you did find some things you like even if you weren't completely blown away. It is possible that since you were there over a huge holiday that things were not as good as usual which is not a great excuse but it happens at a lot of restaurants, not just Disney ones when they are super super busy.

Nope.... I'm from a pretty big city actually. And we travel several times a year.

We are Vegas regulars and have no problem finding fabulous buffets there. Along with wonderful sit down restaurants.

I think that you can find food at WDW that will suit your tastes, but the key will be to plan. I would suggest checking out the menus at www.allearsnet.com before you go. You know you like Flame Tree and Cosmic Rays, so make sure to include those. There are lots of counter services and snack locations that should fit the bill. You can get fruit cups, fresh veggies with dip, bagels, hot pretzels with cheese, popcorn, salads, soup, chicken and ribs (Cosmic Rays!) etc. if you prefer grazing and not wasting your money at the more expensive TS locations. Also, could you pack some sandwiches, chips and fruit and bring them into the park in a backpack?
