I understand the cold stuff buffet, but on the menu is says the hot stuff is prepared to order. What exactly does that mean? Is is on the buffet, or do you order is separtely? Can you try all of the hot items or just one of them? Also what is good for dessert? :flower:

When you sit down at your table they give you a menu that lists several hot entrees. Last week the choices were braised lamb, venison stew, poached cod, grilled salmon, pasta with grilled chicken, and maybe 1 or 2 others. The vegetables were boiled potatoes, mashed rutabaga, "seasonal" vegetable medley, and meatballs. I know meatballs aren't a vegetable, that's just where they were listed.

You order one hot entree at a time, but you may order as many as you like. We thought it took forever and we had problems getting them to bring out any veggies. We asked several times but we only got one VERY small dish (enough for one person).

The desserts weren't included, and we were in a bit of a rush to get back to our resort because we were leaving the next morning so we didn't wait around to try them. :flower:

i also remember being disappointed that the desserts were not included, considering how expensive it was. i don't remember enjoying the food at all - a lot of bland fish - and don't really plan on going back. i know it's a popular place for the princess breakfast, we went for lunch, so maybe it depends on when you go. considering world showcase buffets, i thought epcot germany was way better (unless you're a vegetarian!)

I think it is DELICIOUS. We only ate there for lunch when they had a lunch and the warm foods were on the buffet.

Try their mango frozen drink (begins with a K, I think??)--it is excellent.

And we LOVED their desserts. Akershus and the Bakery have replaced my all time favorite pastry shop in France as my yummy must have of my EPCOT trips.

i will definately agree with the bakery in norway as being fantastic! best smelling place in WDW!!!!

I put Akershus in the category of, "I'm glad I ate there and I enjoyed it, but I don't feel the need to rush back there." The food was good and the service was good. There are just other World Showcase restaurants thay I enjoy more.

We went in December for the first time and really enjoyed it. My 5 year old liked the cold buffet--ate alot of cold cuts, bread and salad. The children's menu was also very kid friendly--nothing too weird on it. We enjoyed trying different entrees. You ordered one and when you were finished they brought you another one. The same entree or a different one. I ate only one but my husband ate four! LOL We will definately go there again.

We go there on every visit, at least once. We are all into healthy eating and love fish big time.I think it is the best restaurant in the whole of WDW. The assortment of shrimps, crab, mackerel, herrings and salads are just the best.Trying to avoid burgers and fast food at Disney is not easy, so for us this is a perfect retreat. The desserts, although not included are inexpensive and amazing.
The only thing that is putting me off going again is the Princess meals. Although the kids are young this is one restaurant we felt we could escape to when we had had too much of the parks. For us this is a real disappointment.
Go to Akershus - you will enjoy it. It never lets us down.

We were traveling with my parents and my kids and the 3 generation family all liked this restaurant!

If you've got little ones they have a "paint your own" cookie that my kids loves.

We loved it, too. Beautiful setting and such a nice break from all the nuggets/burgers/pizza. DH tried the rice cream and really enjoyed it (tho it was small, it was just enough after all the entrees we ate!).

I haven't eaten there, but I know that many Dis-ers were disappointed when they discontinued the Ringnes beer.:earsboy:

We love Akershus, the cold buffet has a tremendous selection and the all you can eat, made to oders hot offerings are just as good. I especially like the venison stew. It is disapointing that the desserts are not included, but if you are on the meal plan, they are. I liked the veiled maiden, but they all are good.

We always find time to eat there on all of our visits.

Our family group of 6 enjoyed it. Being of Norweigan decent we were impressed by the CM's knowlege and she even wrote down some sayings we had heard grandma say while we were growing up and what it meant. :cool1:
We did not have a ps and were seated promptly, it was between 1100-noon this past August.

I hate fish (most of them) but I LOVE Akershus! There's so many things to try. I'm usually the kind of person who orders the same 1 or 2 things all the time at the restaurants we eat at so I'm usually not too adverturous but DH wanted to try. It's now our must-do. We are SO upset about the ending of lunch (in April I think) to extend the princesses! I preferred their lunch offereings on the hot menu.

It's about the all-mighty dollar with them.

This is usually a favorite of ours. We love the atmosphere, and the rice cream dessert is one of my favorites in all of WDW! Haven't been there since it's changed to the Princess character meals (or have they yet?) - that's been a slight disappointment, so we're not sure if we'll go back this time.

Hi scrump,

I think they are supposed to be switchng over to "all princesses all the time" about April 10th. I am a tiny bit disappointed. I love Akershus, I love the cold shrimp, the smoked fish, the meat salad, everything really. I'm just worried that a buffet, served family style platters, and characters are going to make for a pretty hectic place! I am sure it will be harder to get in also, it was nice to be able to pop in on short notice. Also I travel solo quite a bit and was really comfortable eating there on my own. I'm not sure I will still feel that way with characters.

I guess we'll see how it works out! Oh eeeks, I just thought... I hope the cold buffet part doesn't go away!
