I just caught a snipit on a local news channel in Boston (no it wasn't FOX) that stated while MK and Epcot were open after Wilma the other two parks would not be open and that something tipped over but they didn't say what. Anybody else hear about this? Annmarie

Wow what a relief, as I am newly doing the 10 day dance. :cool1:

Hope everyone else is well

We live about 4 miles from Disney and just had lots of wind and rain - no trees down, no branches, etc. The sun was shining by 1:30 this afternoon! Besides the change in temperature, you'd never know we had a hurricane!

That is great news! :cool1: :cool1: Pixie Dust to all who were not as fortunate :goodvibes .

I saw what WDW had to say but I was wondering if anyone here knew what had happened.

Glad you made it through with little damage MK Poppins. I have a friend who lives in Cocoa (a fellow DIS) and I don't know how she made out. The news channels here are showing a lot of damage in that area. Annmarie

Well I am about 2 hours south of WDW - in southern Palm Beach County. We had a horrible day - starting at 6 AM - we woke up around 4:45 AM and we still had power - but then again the terrible winds didn't start until later. My DH said he wanted coffee so I brewed a pot - just as it was getting done - the power went out. From there the conditions just got worse and worse. We put plywood on all the windows except the sliding door in the back and a window on the east side of the house (let me tell you never again - I will always be 100% covered with shutters!!) I watched in my back yard as coconut palms were leaning dangerously close to snapping (which 2 eventually did) Around 9:45 AM - 10:45AM approx. we were in the eye of the storm - it was calm enough to do what the "officials" tell you not to do - as a matter of fact the entire neighborhood was out "surveying" the damage. Well then things starting rapidly deteriating again - the worst of it was yet to come - I stood as long as I could and tried to hold my sliding glass door because it was rattling with the wind - once I saw the wind forcing the door to bow inward I got scared and took my dog to the front of the house and away from the glass door. Meanwhile my DH held the front door shut because the wind kept trying to blow it open even though the door was deadbolted. The weather guy on the radio kept saying if we could hold out just 30-45 mins longer the worst would be over. Well after about 30 mins he says again just 30-45 mins and we should be out of the worst. FINALLY at around 1 PM the worst was over and the wind had died down enough to go outside. Well the power is ripped off the side of the house and completely down, a queen palm in the front yard is snapped. And my huge mango tree snapped and fell on my shed totally crushing it and the neighbors shed. Thankfully it was only tree, fence and shed damage for me but unfortunately my sister who lives in a mobile home went to her house (she was evacuated) to find her screen porch gone and the side of her house ripped off. The siding is gone and so is the insulation - luckly the inside is in tact but the only thing that is keeping the inside in is the paneling on the inside.

Disney should have fared better than we did since the storm moved offshore from West Palm Beach. There were reports of tornados in Melbourne.

We have no power as of right now but thankfully have a generator that allows me to plug in my freezer, my wireless internet and my laptop.

Hopefully I will be able to check back in tomorrow. I am praying for everyone affected by this major storm!!

When we asked, as guests today in Epcot, we were told they did not have the manpower. Because of the storm and many school closings they said they gave as many workers time off as they could afford to give off. Our housekeeping was even limited to towels only, unless you had a reason to need more.

There is a site Weatherbug.com
You can get weather up dates live on you computer.
But one of the cool things is they have live camera views.
If you set the zip code to 34711 one of the cameras you can pick is the Swan and Dolphin. So you can check the Disney weather when ever you want.

So glad that you are safe! :goodvibes My DS lives in Palm Beach county also, and said that it caused a lot of damage. Blessings to the people affected by this terrible storm.

I weatherd wilma at the ASMu and they said there no damage was done on property. They just decided to open only 2 parks because of staffing and as a sort of apology to resort guests. They got a half day on two parks by themselves. The general public was being allowed back in today.

Glad to see another DISer from the South Shore of MA. I've referred several people to the DIS. It's a great place for Disney information with a lot of knowledgeable people. What year are you in college? DS is a sophomore in Philly. Annmarie

The general public was also allowed in. We spent some time in the line for the Beach boys and there were locals, as well as people from other hotels. Those that called were told it was opened.

We spent Monday afternoon and night at MK, it was wonderful, very small crowds. They reopened at 3pm, and held the regular 3pm parade at 5pm instead. They kept the park open until midnight! It was great! There were things closed due to their limited cast members, like the ice cream shop on Main Street was closed. (It was too cold for ice cream anyway). One of the parade control people told us they had half as many parade control staff as they usually have. The blooming plants along the train around the MK have lost their blossoms, they are all over the ground, and a few of the flags around the MK were torn still today. The screening they had put up around the train station while it is being refurbished was so nice, because they had it painted like the train station, and quite a bit of that was torn down. There was a lot of work to put all the parks back in order, for example, all of the chairs and tables by Casey's and Plaza rest. had been taken in on Sunday night, all of the trash cans in the park had been taken in and were only being put back out around 4 on Monday. Not to worry WDW is intact!

Daughter lives in Orlando....no big problems at all.....alls well.....that's all any one can ask for! Have a magical evening!

We are staying offsite and were allowed to enter the MK yesterday after the park reopened. They were supposed to open at 9:00 but didn't open until around 3:00 and were supposed to close at 9:00 but stayed open until midnight, so we did not really lose a half of day. They orginally stated they would only open to resort guest but we called and confirmed before we left and they were allowing the general public in also. It was a nice night, not very crowded.
