I am a lifetime member who will be going back to WW in about a week(way over my original goal). My dd also needs to lose weight and we plan on doing this together but I just can't afford to pay the weekly fee for both of us.

When I go back will I be able to find out the info (points and weight goals) for my dd or does anyone have the info? She is 10 years old.

It is my understanding that if your child is under 16, but older than 10 they can participate in the WW program (at select locations) with a doctors note. Since you do not plan on having your DD join you, you could speak with your leader in an information seeking way to see if you could obtain the information you are looking for. For instance, when you join you could mention that you have a daughter that you were considering for the program and you wondered how it differed for her as opposed to yourself. The only thing I know about kids on WW is that they get more dairy selections for the day, but other than that I am not sure. Good luck.

Thanks. I was trying to remember some of this info from years ago and I do remember that more dairy is involved.

I originally joined back in 1983 and have gone back several times but I know things change quite a bit (especially from the 80's).

I could not find my lifetime card so I called the 1-800 number and they issued me a new number and card.It came in the mail today so I am planning on going next Saturday. I imagine that until school gets out I will kind of modify a plan for dd since they are always having special rewards (eating and such) at least once a week. Then once school gets out and we have the summer off I will see how committed she is to losing the weight. I think if she sees me losing weight and if she loses a few that she will want to do more.

I don't know about points; I haven't ever done WW before, but DH and I are in a program with and for our son called Trim Kids which is sponsored through our YMCA and a local hospital. We have 3 weeks to go to the end of this session & DS11 has lost 13.4 pounds since the end of January!! We've learned a lot through this wonderful experience. One of our favorite aspects is of this class is sharing ideas that work. These are some things we now believe and live as a family...I hope you don't mind that I'm sharing. Please give any tips you have...we're always looking for fresh, fun ideas to keep us all motivated!!

*We only eat at the kitchen table with no TV...we all used to do our own breakfast (I was often running out the door with a cereal bar & cup of juice to gulp on my way to work). Now we have a healthy breakfast together that gets us going physically and emotionally...

*We play a lot more together. We used to try to get DS to "work out" with us at the Y on the treadmill or eliptical...sure wasn't appealing to our kid. We've learned some new ways to play (4-square in our unfinished basement, playing DJ Friday nights for family time; that gets us dancing, playing Wii) We also have contests once in awhile: to encourage eating slower, first one done at dinner loses and has to run up and down the stairs 10 times or wash dishes by hand -- DS LOVES winning these games & dictating the consequences! Sometimes we eat with our non-dominant hand. Anything silly that gets us having fun is what we're looking for!!

*We actually aren't calorie counters, but we definitely balance our intake more throughout our day with that healthy breakfast & a good lunch...we portion out our own 100 calorie snacks in baggies & follow the 15/5 rule: no more than 15 g of sugar for snacks or cereal & 5 g of fat or less for snacks).

*We eat on little plates now & don't ever bring pots or serving dishes to the table. Seconds are for veggies or fruits...

It's awesome that you are working on this with your DD...your example means so much more than anything else! She will thank you for this!!!

Best wishes (& please share what works...)!!

Susan

I can tell you that the new book does NOT have information for anyone under the age of 17. It says that you have to discuss it with your leader to find your points range. It might be worth your time to get a doctor's note for your daughter and sign her up for just the first week so you can figure everything out and she can hear what it's about. The sign up fee is only the price of the meeting until some time in May. Regardless of what you end up doing good luck to you and your daughter! :)

I just found out by reading WW's website that if you are a paying adult and bring your child (with a doctor's note) to join they are free as long as they are accompanied by a paying adult. I thought you might like to know :)
