I don't know about points; I haven't ever done WW before, but DH and I are in a program with and for our son called Trim Kids which is sponsored through our YMCA and a local hospital. We have 3 weeks to go to the end of this session & DS11 has lost 13.4 pounds since the end of January!! We've learned a lot through this wonderful experience. One of our favorite aspects is of this class is sharing ideas that work. These are some things we now believe and live as a family...I hope you don't mind that I'm sharing. Please give any tips you have...we're always looking for fresh, fun ideas to keep us all motivated!!
*We only eat at the kitchen table with no TV...we all used to do our own breakfast (I was often running out the door with a cereal bar & cup of juice to gulp on my way to work). Now we have a healthy breakfast together that gets us going physically and emotionally...
*We play a lot more together. We used to try to get DS to "work out" with us at the Y on the treadmill or eliptical...sure wasn't appealing to our kid. We've learned some new ways to play (4-square in our unfinished basement, playing DJ Friday nights for family time; that gets us dancing, playing Wii) We also have contests once in awhile: to encourage eating slower, first one done at dinner loses and has to run up and down the stairs 10 times or wash dishes by hand -- DS LOVES winning these games & dictating the consequences! Sometimes we eat with our non-dominant hand. Anything silly that gets us having fun is what we're looking for!!
*We actually aren't calorie counters, but we definitely balance our intake more throughout our day with that healthy breakfast & a good lunch...we portion out our own 100 calorie snacks in baggies & follow the 15/5 rule: no more than 15 g of sugar for snacks or cereal & 5 g of fat or less for snacks).
*We eat on little plates now & don't ever bring pots or serving dishes to the table. Seconds are for veggies or fruits...
It's awesome that you are working on this with your DD...your example means so much more than anything else! She will thank you for this!!!
Best wishes (& please share what works...)!!
Susan
