Does anyone know how much disney blocks on your card when you check in??

I didn't even ask when we went in June, because I didn't want charging priviledges this time, because we were traveling with my In-laws and didn't want them to be able to charge anything to my card.

Not all keys to the same room have to have charging priviledges. We went with our teenaged kids and DH and I could charge but the kids keys couldn't. (Not that I didn't trust them with our money but I was worried they'd lose their keys.)

So, if they do not pre-charge your card, what do they do if your card is declined at the end of your stay? Not that this will happen to me, I am just thinking many people would take advantage of this.

What, are you saying that a CM may give misinformation?!?! :rotfl:

That said, I didn't add charging privileges to my KTTW. Being from Canada, I didn't like the idea of how much things cost being at the whim of the exchange rate when it is charged to my card.

I took travellers cheques with me and redeemed a certain amount each day (what I thought I might need for the parks etc.) and left the rest in my room safe. This way, if I were to loose them, they could be cancelled and I didn't have to worry about loosing a large amount of cash.

With all the issues you hear about with people having problems regarding card information being stolen and used elsewhere, I feel safer not using my cc unless I have to.

I didn't even know that traveler's checks existed anymore! I swear I learn something every day here.

They do charge the amount of the room in advance and any tickets in advance so this would be for incidentals, etc. They will send you a bill if it is declined I would imagine.

It has to be rare enough that it is not enough of a concern for them to be blocking thousands of cards daily.

I know they normally can, but the way they linked ours on this trip was strange, the CM didn't seem to handle things well, either. I've never had connecting rooms where all the keys opened both outside doors either, but these did. I wanted to use cash anyway and the CM said they no longer do that.

Obviously, it's not a huge problem or they would change their policy. But there was recently a case - it was in the Orlando paper and posted here repeatedly - about 3 guys who ripped off Disney for quite a bit of money this way. It was way more than the $1500, so it must have been for multiple rooms or something.

I tend to think that "many people" would not take advantage of it - most people don't - because most people are honest.

I had the same issue when I was at POP last September for our first trip. Others had said that you could put cash down at the resort for charging on your KTTW card. I asked to do that and was told it was not possible. I didn't want to use my cc so I just cashed in so many of my travellers cheques each day.

Yes Tinkaholic they do still exist, at least here in Nova Scotia they do. I have a US currency bank account and just withdrew the cash and had it transferred it to travellers cheques. As I said, I felt better with that than $1,000.00 in cash as at least if they are lost or stolen, I can get them replaced.

That is quite interesting. I don't remember what we did in Jan at BWI, except that we had several Disney gift cards, but we didn't link them to our KTTW card. I will try to do it at AoA on our next trip.

I know when I got back others had said they did it. I think it is like so many things at Disney, it all depends on who you speak to, what day it is and whether or not you are wearing polka dot underwear on the fourth day of the third week of the month.

Seriously though, the person i spoke to may not have known what I was talking about. Who knows but I didn't pursue it or ask anyone else. I was in too much of a hurry to get on with my first WDW vacation!
