Hi guys!

I'm hoping you can help me, I'm staying in the YC for two nights in the middle of my Orlando vacation. The problem is I've just found out Disney 'block' or authorise a certain amount on your card to cover expenditures but that money can then be unuseable for up to ten days! I only have a pre paid credit card which will have all my spending money on it. I don't want to get a credit card either. Does anyone have any experience of how much this is and how long it's blocked for? Thanks, I'm stressing out here!

Disney sets a limit before they "ding" your card and then it starts all over again. They do not block an amount on your card.

Values are $500.00; mods are $1,000.00; and deluxes are $1,500.00.

So because I'm staying at a deluxe I'd have to spend up to $1500 before they took anything from my card? And on check out do they charge your card then for whatever purchases you've made? I've never stayed on property before and I'm not too sure how the key to the world works! Thanks for your help!

As the pp mentioned, deluxe resorts have a $1500 limit for room charging and the cc you give will be run through for verification only, with no amount held against the card at that time. Once you hit this limit, Disney will charge the cc you leave on file. With that said, you can choose not to have room charging privileges and not leave a cc at check in, therefore paying for your purchases as you make them.

Keep in mind all of this is only if you choose to have charging added to your KTTW card. You do not have to do this. It is strictly an "opt in" function of the room key.:)

The PP's have it right on the limits. There is one exception that I'm aware of; if you buy park tickets and charge them to your room those then they charge your card immediately for the tickets.

Thanks for your input guys! Panic over! I'll just opt not to have a charging facility, I probably wouldn't use it anyway! Thanks!

My family was just there in May and they have changed a few things. The way it works for charging is you have to have a card on file for the room. If you put a card on file, you can charge to the room. The only authorization it put on our card was a temporary $1 authorization charge to make sure it was legitimate, and that drops off up to 10 days after they put it on there. The limit is now $500 for all hotels. It is no longer staggered like it was depending on the type you stay. That created too much confusion among the guests each time they would stay. The way it works with charging is they will ask you when you make a purchase with your "Key to the World," at least this is how it worked with us, is they will ask if you want it charged to the room or card on file right away. The nice thing about charging to the room is you can use that option for all taxes and gratuities not covered by a dining plan. One thing they did tell us incorrectly though. They will charge your card the morning of check-out at about 1am-2am. You will be able to continue charging to the room until midnight that day, where they will re-charge the card for the additional purchases. Also from our experience, they do not permit a temporary credit card to be used to put on the room for purchases. It has to be a major credit card or debit card with a credit logo on it. If you do not have a credit card, they will not allow you to use room charging, but you will have to pay up front for everything. Disney also does NOT ask for a card up front unless you want to opt into the room charging. I hope this helps to clear up a few things.

One other thing I forgot to mention in my post. You don't have to wait for the limit to be reached in order for it to charge. You can go to the front desk whenever and pay off the balance or pay a little bit on the balance. You can also use Disney Gift Cards to pay on or pay off the balance. If you want to use Gift Cards, you have to make the payment before the limit is reached though or it will charge to the card and leave you with a $0 balance.

That is what we were told when we checked in during our stay in May. It is possible she was wrong with her information as well.

In mid-June, the deluxe limit was still $1500, and they charge your card when you hit that amount.

I love the room charge feature. I use it for everything and it makes it super convenient to check out. Every time friends and family ask me "how much did you spend on your trip?" I quote the amount from my folio charge, which is emailed to me. I love it love it love it.:)

If you don't use room charge, then you'll either use cash (which can get lost) or use your banking card which is just another card you'd need to pull out and can possibly lose. That would suck if anyone lost their banking card while on vacation.:scared:

I didn't even ask when we went in June, because I didn't want charging priviledges this time, because we were traveling with my In-laws and didn't want them to be able to charge anything to my card.

I know Pop wouldn't allow me to put cash down as they had before, I don't know if it was just the CM I was dealing with or not.

I do know if you want to, you can cash out when you want to and reset the amount, you don't have to wait until you reach the limit. I will even stop and get a printout, so I know what I have spent, just to keep an eye on it.

She was wrong unless you stayed at a value then it is $500.:) Moderate is $1000 & deluxe is $1500. Confirm this by a CM I know at the BWI. :goodvibes

What, are you saying that a CM may give misinformation?!?! :rotfl:

That said, I didn't add charging privileges to my KTTW. Being from Canada, I didn't like the idea of how much things cost being at the whim of the exchange rate when it is charged to my card.

I took travellers cheques with me and redeemed a certain amount each day (what I thought I might need for the parks etc.) and left the rest in my room safe. This way, if I were to loose them, they could be cancelled and I didn't have to worry about loosing a large amount of cash.

With all the issues you hear about with people having problems regarding card information being stolen and used elsewhere, I feel safer not using my cc unless I have to.

We were there in May(3 different deluxe resorts) my card wasn't charged until I checked out, and we were over 500.00, but under the 1500.
