I am pet sitting my neighbors dog and he is a mutt. He is adorable but much stonger and bigger than my 13 & 17 lb mutts. He is going to be in the house for the next 3 days alone and it is making me nutty so I was going to bring him down to be with us. He weights about 45-50 lbs do you think he could hurt my little pwder puffs? He is very sweet but rambuncious. They are all spayed and nuetered. I can't bear to leave him in the house alone. Wixh me luck. I volunteered for this because he got so sick when they were away the last time.

I would try introducing the dogs on nuetral ground to all of them. If you bring him into their territory first, they could react negetively to him. If you introduce them out on the sidewalk or in the garage, that might help.

How are your dogs when meeting new dogs? My dog is 60lbs, and LOVES other dogs. She plays with my DBF's Mom's Yorkies 5 lbs -when full- with no problems and she is rather "playful"!!! Good Luck and it sounds like a lot of fun!

If the other dog has a crate, I would first introduce him to yours while he is in the crate. This is how we use to introduce a new member into our family.

Is the larger dog used to being around other dogs? Your dogs could probably hold their own - especially since it's "their turf," but if the mutt hasn't been around other dogs (in the same house, with someone else's food and water bowls on the floor, in close proximity for a long time), that's where your problem might come in.

If you do it right, it may take you so long to go through the testing and introduction process that it wouldn't be worth it for the time they'll be gone.

Well I think tht my dogs are fine but poor Fred is going to have a heart attack. He hasn't sat down for 2 hours. He is totally confused with the dog door and the fenced yard whick I thought would be nice for him is making him nervous too. I think he likes to be chained up. I guess I will have to see if i can get him calm today but if not he will just have to stay down at his house. They keep him on a lesh near his food and water when they aren't home and he seems fine with it. I crate trained both my dogs and theywere fine in 2 months and they loved the crate but Fred is a rescue and I think he has issues. He iss trying to be friends but boy is having a hard time. I don't think I can get a shower with them all out. I won't chain him up in my house I think its mean. I wish I had a crate that was big enough. Poor Fred. He is really cute. Oh my now they are all running up and down the stairs I must be nutty as a fruitcake

Well Fred seems to be calming down. I brought him back to my house last night for about 1 hour and we took a 2 mile walk. He does love his walk. My son stayed down at his house with him until 10PM last night an then we left him out and he went to bed. Fred ran around my yard barking and annoying my dogs for about an hour this morning but I think they are all tired and they are all laying down. My littlest dog which is the Alpha dog has gone to her chair and if Fred comes over she growles and he barks but then he leaves. He is testing her. He is settling down though. I feel like I can't leave this poor dog chained up for the bulk of the day. I think he will get that this is the way we behave in this house. let's hope. I don't think I will volunteer for this again.
