I am looking at buying some for my son for Christmas. I saw some very expensive ones and then I saw some called International Everage that were much cheaper. Does anyone know the differences? Would it be worth buying the cheaper ones? Any information would be appreciated.

We have the Henckles. I think they are pretty great. Now, we definitely worked our way up through a few sets of cheapies to these, but they are worth it.

Although, my MIL has had "Cutco" knives for just about forever and they are still going very strong... Not sure how much those cost her back in the day but they were definitely worth it too.

Hopefully someone who can actually USE these knives as intended will reply. I am not a chef, that's for sure!!!

Cutco knives are the way to go! They are by far some of the best knives out there. They are a little pricey, but so worth it!

We have a Cutco knife that we got back in the day when my brother's friends sold the stuff-a good 20+ years ago.

I have Henckels 4 star knives. They have a poly something handle..which is nice for me as I have rather big hands for a female. They have a full tang (the blade goes all the way to the end of the handle) and can be honed and sharpened again and again. Nice heft and well balanced....

Instead of getting a whole set...why don't you get a nice paring knife in one kind and a chef's knife in the other...these are good basic knives and you can decide which one fits you better....

They are all my DH (the cook in the house) uses....

The Everedge are the low end model. They never need sharpening, like Ginsu knifes. It's a good knife, but not in the same class as their other knifes. It's a great choice if you just need something affordable to do the job. If you really like to cook though, get the Cutco or upper level Henckels.

I have Henckels and like them. :) Dunno what kind, other than Henckels.

if you're a Costco member, they've got a great set of Henckels with block and steel for about $160.00. knives are like electronics and BBQ grills, buy the best you can afford.

We took the plunge last year and bought a full set of Henckels. I love them. It seemed like a lot of money at the time but I was not aware of how a "real" knife should cut. I'm glad I spent the money. :thumbsup2

I love love LOVE my Henckels!

We have the Professional 'S' series. They are great and have really kept a sharp edge.

Buy Henckels. Best knives period. The only reason you'll ever have to buy new knives is if you lose the Henckels.

Another Henckels fan!! I love my knives. My dad lives to cook too so he has good knoves, but when I go to either of my in-laws houses, I hate using their knives. They have cheap knives that they don't sharpen properly. A dull knife will cut you faster than a sharp one because of the amount of pressure you have to apply to get the dull ones to cut!

Side note: if you are going to invest in good knives get 2 very important things: 1. a sharpening steel that should be used before each use and 2. a GOOD knife sharpener that should be used annually to put a good edge back on your knives. In fact, it is about time for me to run my knives though my sharpener again!

get the better ones. We started out with teh lower end henkles and now have the professional series. LOVE them. Thank you my sister

We had Cutco for years and got a set of Henkels several years ago. Cutco makes a good knife, Henkel makes a better one.
