Does anyone know about beaches and surfing in the Anaheim area?

Hi all,

We will be coming to DLR on Thurs, and my husband has always wanted to learn to surf. I was thinking if there was a good beach and surf board rentals/lessons nearby the resort, we could take Sat afternoon off from Disney and visit the beach. If anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :cool1:

The water on the west coast is much colder than you may be expecting. There are waves off the coast but not what you may think. Surfing is definately possible but I would have no idea where. Does he have a wetsuit?

Like the previous poster said, be cautioned about the water temps. My DH is always in a wetsuit no matter what the season.

In Huntington Beach, Toes on the Nose at the Hyatt Regency & Zack's on the beach offer surf lessons. I don't know how much they cost but I am sure you can look them up & see. Hopefully, you can rent wetsuits too.

Have fun!

Thank you for all the great replies. Is Huntington Beach within reasonable Taxi distance from DLR , or do we need to rent a car?

Thanks again:thumbsup2

I would rent a car. HB is a great place to surf and ::yes:: they rent boards all over.

I concur with other posters, Huntington has nice waves but also has a nice beach for non-surfers. I love the little arcade they have on the pier. We have been at Huntington in the summer and my sister and I would be in the water at 8pm! The water is very nice! Have a good time!:thumbsup2

Hey, we'll (DIS Ladies Group) be there the same time as you. Watch out!:lmao:

Thanks for all the info guys :goodvibes

I'll be on the lookout for those Martini glass shirts ;) See you there!!!!

My DH is an avid surfer and prefers Doheny (Dana Point) for beginning surfers. This is where my girls learned how to surf. We were there just this last weekend and he said the water was cold. Must have a wetsuit (winter suit - full length). Unfortunately the beach portion is not that great IMO. And it is also further south than what you want to travel. If Doheny doesn't have great waves he then goes to San Onofre. I don't know about the beach there since I haven't gone there yet. I also don't know if they rent surfboards at Doheny either since we have our own.

HB is closer to Disneyland so you might want to try there. I am thinking this might be better for ya. Enjoy your trip.
