Like in excel or word? How do you do it, if you do? Do you put everything you can think of on it then print it out, or keep just the major things on there and add stuff you don't always need?

I'm starting one and just looking for more info.

GROCERY LIST??? We don't need no stinkin' grocery list!:teeth:

I keep a running list on my laptop. Just add things as I realize that I need them. Then, once I have gone, I go through and take out the things I wont need again and leave the ones I'll need every other week.

For example, Milk always stays on there, but Salsa will be added on an as needed basis.

I put mine in Word and basically put the grocery store aisles and the main 3-5 things I might buy in each aisle, along with some blank room for writing in extras. That way, the list is in order when I go to the store - no more running back and forth because I forgot something in an earlier aisle.

No kidding, Mal! Where's the sport in the list method? It's not a real grocery trip until I call DH on the cell several times to have him check the pantry!

That's kind of what I did. I went through every aisle and thought about what I get, and added it to my list. Holy cow is my list long though!! That's why I thought I'd get some tips here! :) Maybe I'm going about this all wrong. Maybe I shouldn't put everything I can think of on the list, but I don't know! Ack!

We do keep a list on our computer - in Excel.

We include everything we buy (including dog and cat food, etc), the prices, and the quantities.
But before we go shopping - we go through the list and place checkmarks in the column by the items we will buy this trip.

This allows us to sort by what we only need per trip and also calculates for us how much we will spend. You can select that section only to print if you do not want to print the entire list....that is what we do.

It is a very nice tool and helps keep down on splurges.

Excel Rocks!

I do my grocery list a little differently. I get out my recipe books and look in the recipe files on the comp and plan a menu for the week. I plan a full 7 days at a time and try to vary the menu a great deal. We love foreign foods especially! (I cook all meals at home.) As I read through the recipes, I make note of any ingredients I don't have on hand and list all items needed. When the menu is complete, I take inventory of kitchen items, laundry needs and toiletries. Then I make the list, putting it in order to the layout of the store. By planning the menu and making the list, I don't overbuy and we have interesting meals each day. Works great after you get the hang of it! :teeth:

YOU rock! Very, very cool!! I don't know Excel, but I think I'll try to learn because that was sounds like a great way to do it.

I bought a "price book" from the DollarStretcher web site, and I've yet to use it. This way sounds like a great way to kill 2 birds with one stone! (I could always put the lowest price I ever find in there as a way to make an online price book.)

Very interesting!

Yep, I have a master grocery list, but only because I'm not organised enough to buy the right stuff if I go shopping without one!

I keep it on Excel, update it about twice a year - we get fed up of stuff, and go through phases of new stuff - and print it weekly.

Much easier than being organised!
