Does anyone here NOT watch ANY tv?

Wow I don't think I could go without TV! Honestly I have such a boring life, I don't know what I'd do without TV. LOL I need some hobbies.

I almost never watch TV anymore. I used to, a lot, but over the years, I've just gotten busier, more things going on with the kids, and I run and workout regularly, and I read a lot.

ER used to be a never miss show for me, but I've lost interest in that this year.

It's hard to quit cold turkey even if you don't watch that much.

I have to disagree here. When DH and I moved in with some friends when we lost our home due to hurricane Dennis back in July, they had no cable. That was pretty much cold turkey for me! :earseek: For the first week it was pretty rough. However, after the third week, I like didn't really miss it. :cool1: Too much JUNK on nowadays and it's sad...GARBAGE almost on every channel. My opinion of course. So now, I have no cable. I have tv, but decided I didn't want the garbage in my home! DH and I rent DVDs or watch the ones we have, that way, we know what we're watching and can enjoy it. Over the last month we've been renting Star Trek:TNG. We started with Season 1 and we are now into Season 5! Quite enjoyable I must say! :earboy2:
If I could pick my channels WITHOUT the commercials, or maybe I would just mute them while they're on, then maybe, possibly, I would have cable, unfortunately, that isn't an option. :(
Hey if I can do it and I was tv addicted for many, many years, then you can too if only for a few weeks. Plenty to do out there, plenty to do. I've been doing audio books here lately from the library and let me tell you that does help with the sound issue if you need something to listen to. :p
Best to ya,

Denise  :sunny:

I don't know, I kind of think that except for the commercials watching videos is almost the same as watching regular TV. We watch a lot of Angel and Buffy and rent movies too so we also watch something besides regular TV.

I think that I'd miss Lost, the SciFi and Travel channels and the news too much though. Maybe if we completely disconnected the satellite...

I'm not disagreeing with you one bit. I just know that since I don't have cable in my home, I watch much less tv...much less! The thing is though, once the DVD is done, it's done, I turn my tv off and either go to my computer, go to bed, or listen to one of my audio tapes. Before, I was up til 1 or 2 in the am watching JUNK on tv or the tv was on just to be on, but no more. :goodvibes For me, very simply, it was about getting the garbage out of my home. I was watching entirely too much soap operas and talk show television. I watch cable tv at work, but even there I'm cautious about what I watch. Food Network, the Travel Channel, and Animal Planet are 3 of my fav channels there! :p

I almost NEVER watch television anymore. There isn't much on I care to watch and I frankly don't have the time. If I do watch tv, it is on when I am working on the computer (usually news or sports). With work and school consuming my life, there isn't much time for the tube!

As my hero Groucho Marx once said: "I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book!"

Cheers,
Jungle Josh

The woman I work for has never had a tv in her house since she had kids (she has 3, the oldest being 20). It's certainly not to save money, they are very well off and very well educated. She just felt it was a bad influence on them. Her kids are very bright and don't seem to have missed it. However, every day when the sky looks iffy, she will ask me what the weather report is (I work on her horse farm and she doesn't want the horses turned out if it's going to rain). Sometimes it's not definitive what the weather is going to do and I wish she would watch it herself! I do remember one time she was annoyed that her middle daughter's friend didn't invite the middle daughter over to her house to watch something special on tv .

There still are a lot of good, educational programs on TV. My son enjoys Discovery channel and the History channel. And of course, I have to watch the Weather channel!
