HELP!
DD qualified for her middle school Spelling Bee and has been studying the official Scripps word list they sent home. I just started quizzing her and the list is missing an entire page of the 8th grade words--we only have the first 14 of the 50 words. (they copied 2 sets of the 6th grade words ) Does anyone happen to have a copy of this they could send to me electronically? I have emailed the teachers but she really wants the list today while she has lots of time to study and for us to look up words she doesn't know. The School Bee is Thursday so she doesn't have much time.
The only thing I can find is that you could join the their website and have access to all the words, but it'll cost you $99 http://www.spellingbee.com/ .
Thanks guys but what is the ACTUAL list that teachers give the kids for the local bee. It is a list of 50 words for each grade level and are the words that will be used. If your child is participating at the local level then they would get this list, and I was hoping to find someone here that had the list. I am aware of the other resources but that is not what I need for the competition she has on Thursday.
You either have the list I am looking for and know it, or you don't. Hopefully someone will know what I am talking about and be able to pass it on to me.
Hmmmm. Interesting. This what the Scripps Website says (text bolding mine):
For a classroom, grade level or school-wide spelling bee:
Step One: Students should first learn the 50 study words for their grade level. Teachers provide the study words to students. The study words are available in the password-protected area of spellingbee.com. It is there that teachers print out "Study Words for (Grade Level)."
Step Two: When your students master the 50 study words for their grade level, they are ready to learn the study words for all other grade levels. Study words are available for grades 18 in the password-protected area of spellingbee.com.
Step Three: When your students master the study words for grade levels 18, they may get a head start on the next level of competition. They may learn the words in 2010 Spell It! Also, they may expand their spelling skill set by playing the fun word games at Merriam-Webster's Word Central.
I do have experience with the Scripps Bee and how it is supposed to work so I know that we need this list! In the past there was an official book that you could purchase, but they did away with that a few years ago and went to this format instead. I think that the school based and beyond are supposed to be using this format and these words (and the study opportunities) if they are using their Bee to qualify for the National.
Sent it to you a few minutes ago. Let me know if you got it.
And let us know how she does. Unfortunately my daughter's nerves got the best of her and she ended up getting confused on her first -- very easy--word! Oh well. I wasn't really excited about having to spend the next 2 months studying for the regionals!
Last year she was in the Bee as well and made a really silly error with the very first letter in the word and she knew it as soon as it caome out of her mouth.
I was in the Bee in 7th grade and made a silly error as well.
NERVES is probably what gets most of them!! I bet if they could sit down they could all go a lot longer!!
If you found the list for this year any chance you can send to me. My duaghter got her letter over break which said list is attached but nothing was attached. She is in 6th grade.
