My dh really wants an iPad for Christmas. :scared1: I am considering getting it for him; but was thinking of getting it with wifi only to save $150 and whatever monthly fee I would have to pay for the extra. I did find out his work has wifi access so he could use it there and we already have wifi at home. he already has an iphone with the extra $30 a month, an apple desktop and dell laptop. Does anyone have only the wifi and can give reviews? is there anything you can't do bc you only have wifi? thanks!

I have a 32G Ipad with wifi and it works perfectly for my needs. I also have an iphone too, so if I need to connect while we are out, I use that instead. I mainly use the ipad for games, reading books, and surfing the internet at home, so if he needs it more for work than for entertainment, I might spring for the other one. I should add that I got mine for mother's day and I hardly get to use it.My kids love it so much.lol

My husbands is wiFi only, as long as you have access there isn't anything he can't do. We've taken it on the road with us and have stopped at places that have WiFi and haven't had a problem. We couldn't justify the extra cost every month.

So basically it would be a big iPod Touch. Everyone who has an iPod Touch gets along fine with wifi only...and only where there is wifi.

You learn to pre-plan or get around it or wait till you have wifi. Since he already has an iphone, he'll be just fine and can always use the iphone to look up something if immediately needed.

I have ipod touch and when no wifi, I can't access email, can't update the weather, can't use any of the apps that need wifi access, can't access the app store, can't access the internet obviously.

I can use apps that have the info/data in the device, can use my calendar, can play games, see photos, play music.

I have an Ipad that has wifi and the sim but I have never installed a sim card. I love the Ipad BUT I also carry a laptop with me that does have Internet connection when I absolutely have to have it.

If this is the situation for your DH, then he can probably get by without Internet as I have. Nothing beats opening your Ipad and having instant access to e-mail or the web (with wifi). No waiting 3 hours for windows to fire up.

Is it not possible to use the iPhone as a mobile hotspot for the iPad? I'm not a Mac person, but I could have sworn that I've seen people around my office doing that with them.

I would love to hear more about this - anyone with experience?

There is a way to toggle the ipad with a jailbroken iphone 4, I believe, and that's as far as my expertise goes, unfortunately!.

DH has an ipad with WiFi, and occasionally wishes he had a wireless one, but not very often. If you have a wireless router at home and he has one at work, he should be fine!
