Does anyone have points at VB?

Just checking on folks out there that own VB. I am going to purchase two contracts. One for sure at BCV but thinking about VB as the other. I can invision our family going there often for "beach" vacation on off years from WDW.

Thoughts?

We own at VB and we love our beach vacations. We are celebrating our anniversary with a Beach Cottage and 2 OVIR's for all of our guests this summer.

Dues is high, and that's one negative. It would be cheaper to own on site property in the long run, if you plan to use your points at WDW.

I would NEVER give up my Vero points. We love to go to WDW for a few days and then relax at Vero - especially at spring break!

:thumbsup2

I love my VB points too. I do wish the dues weren't so high there, but it is one of our favorite DVC resorts.

Considering that the dues differiential is likely to wipe out any initial cost savings, I'd carefully evaluate when you would want to visit VB and try to get a handle on how difficult those periods would be at seven months. Both of my daughters have booked summer and spring break ressies at VB well inside seven months (with the caveat being that they were for weekends, not midweek).

If you can likely get a ressie for when you want to go at seven months, you might be better off with another home resort that will give you a specific advantage -- either booking or overall cost.

I have purchased a small 50 pt. contract. Did this resale for very cheap, saved almost $30/ pt. versus buying thru Disney. Seller paid all closing and fees. So, even though the MF's are $1.00 more than my BW pts., my savings going thru resale were well worth it. It will take a very long time before the higher MF's start coming into play. So don't be afraid to buy there, I have started to see some posts of people having to wait list for some rooms there over the summer. Summer is prime time for DVC members even if its not for the locals. Wonder once the newere DVC's open if VB might start to get harder to get into. Oh, why only 50 pts? It gets me a OVIR ocean front room at 11 mos. Couldn't touch that here in Maryland!!:beach:

Great info! I did not know dues were higher at VB. We would most likely travel in January ( were are in MN) or October. Do you all think traveling during those times with a 7 month window is doable?

I used to own 3 contracts at Vero - totaling 160 points. They were bought in 1997/98 and early 2000's. I sold them off this year & bought AKV instead, after several years where I wasn't getting over to Vero at all. In the beginning, I used the points at least once a year. But, as my son grew up (he's 21 yrs old now) and life made me use some of my vacation time on non-disney stuff, I no longer had the time. I went back for a weekend a year or 2 ago, and realized I didn't care if I ever came back.

I love the beach, and it's a beautiful resort. But - I'd rather be around more adults. The sheer number of kids, mostly little kids - was a turnoff at this point. If I was traveling with little kids obviously I'd feel differently, but I really have no desire to do that....mine is grown, and that's a good thing

Also, the dues are much higher at Vero, so I figured why pay that premium if I was not using them to stay there....and AKV was so much more appealing anyway!

I can't speak to how difficult or easy it is to get reservations at VB in January, as I have no experience with that.

October is the lowest points of the year in VB, probably because it's hurricane season. We have only been there in October, and had a great time each visit. We had no difficulty booking a 2-br at the 7 month window. I'll add that their points are way too high for weekend nights. We always book weekend nights on cash; even without a member discount, the price per night in October on cash for a 2-bedroom was far, far lower than using points, if you valued the points at $10-12 each.

Owning VB points does, in the end, make sense for us, though, because now that our family has grown so large, we want the ability to book a beach cottage. Those can be VERY tough to get without the 11-month window.

I own at BCV and VB. BCV was our first contract through Disney and VB a 150 pt add-on for $65pp last year. Thats a bunch lower then a resale at WDW. What is it now for BWV? $85? Whats BCV? $92? However that price difference will be eaten up over the life of the contract plus a handful more so make sure you want to own there.

VB dues for 2008 are $6.04
BCV dues for 2008 are $4.80

We purchased at VB to get a beach cottage every 2 or 3 years. :cloud9:

I'm not sure about availabilty. I would think Jan and Oct would be easy months to get a ressie. Spring(March & April) and Summer would be more difficult. It is possible that availability would be more difficult as more members come on board have a few years of WDW vacations and are ready to relax at the beach. Time will tell on that one.

Wow I thought 4 kids was a lot! So do you own only at VB or other places as well?

We love our DVC! We just own a tiny 50-point contract at VB, and use banking, borrowing, and the occasional transfer to get a few nights in a beach cottage every couple of years out of that.

We have about 450 points at SSR. Those are primarily for trips we need to book within the 7 month window.

Then we have a Beach Club contract to book our annual October trip.

Yes, those prices per point are often available thru resale agencies, before you add on closing costs and factor in available points. Disney is charging $98 per point for BWV and $101 per point for BCV.

I bought a 150 Pt Vero contract with 150 banked from 2005, 150 from 2006 and all available for 2007. I paid very little for it. I figure my payback figure, averaging in the higher dues, will be 20 years before it makes a whit of difference. I plan on selling it anyway but I did love our beach cottage days. I also own 150 pts in my main contract so if I need a Vero fix I'm okay. But I mostly use my Vero Pts for other trips and we really miss the place. I love Vero and I love HH as well. I think my favs are OKW, VB, HH in that order. You can tell I'm old from an admission like that:upsidedow

WOW... BCV & VB... what could be better. If I won a lottery that gave me a week to anywhere, I would chose Disney at VB. I don't own there, but if I had the opportunity to switch my BWV for VB I would. I'm also kind of weird about the ocean on the Florida east coast. I crave it....

I don't own at VB but I sure wouldn't mind picking a few up if some money dropped into my lap. We had our first trip there this fall and fell in love.
