Does anyone have manners anymore?

My neighbor woke me up at 6 am this morning vacuuming her apartment (she's above my apt) :furious: Her kids were running back and forth, nonstop. They're 7 & 9 years old...no reason for it. Plus, her husband sits on their deck (which is right above my door) smokes his cigarettes, then throws the butts down right in front of my door.

Inconsideration and lack of manners are my biggest pet peeves.

yuk! My neighbor smokes outside her house so the smoke she doesn't want in her house comes into mine. He husband ignores the 1pm Sunday mowing(for noise) ordinance and mows Sundays as soon as he's up-8am, sometimes a little earlier. I feel ya but at least they are not overhead.

At least they wait until 6am. My upstairs neighbors in the apt above me once used to vacuum at 2am everynight. :confused3

Oh the joys of living in multiple housing...We did that for wayyy too long. Let's see, we had the neighbor who thought you could burn anything in your fireplace, even treated wood. Nice smell NOT.
We had the neighbor who locked their labrador in the garage while they were gone so he would bark his head off and it would echo directly into our unit.
The neighbor who had a vicious dog who she left outside (unattended) on a long leash which allowed the dog to stand directly on our patio and would snarl and bark at us through the glass doors.
The neighbor who would come home from a night shift and then 'get it on' with the flavor of the week and was not shy about sharing her moments of um 'happiness' at full volume.
Neighbor who we shared a driveway with that thought the entire driveway was actually hers and would block our garage doors with her car.

We have since bought a house but you still get annoying neighbors. I especially cannot stand the people who do not pick up after their dogs go on our yard. Last winter the boys and I made a snowman and this JERK allowed his dog to pee all over it!
Our one neighbor constantly backs her gas guzzler onto our grass and is now mad because we had the nerve to put up a fence to stop her from doing so (it also prevents her from taking out our AC unit)
But my alltime favorite was the neighbor who was growing pot in her backyard, had an abusive relationship and would just barge into my house uninvited, without knocking expecting me to be sympathetic when she was arrested for their illegal activities or when her dh beat her up. I was sympathetic about the dh at first and gave her a lot of information and options to get out. She would leave for 24 hours and then come right back to it claiming that he would change. NOT.

Neighbors...I want to buy 35 acres of farm land. No neighbors..

we are back in an apartment building after 3 years. So far it's ok. The building is new and very structurally sound. I haven't heard anything other than the odd drop of something on the tiled floor above me. I feel bad about vacumming at 10am on a Saturday, I am worried that I will wake someone up! I only vacuum the living room and hallway at that time and our A/C units are so loud I don't think anyone can hear. This morning I was walking down the hall to the elevator (11th floor) and started worrying about what will happen when the baby is born and crying... I think we are fairly well seperated from our neighbors though. We are a corner unit and one wall is the stairwell (which no one uses because it's ahighrise) and the other wall we only share one bedroom wall with them, the rest is the closet and bathroom. I think we'll be ok with a crying baby!

To answer your original question "does anyone have manners anymore?" I do! I know a lot of people who do.

You just have crappy neighbors. Sorry.

Ack! Your neighbors are so rude!

Condos are becoming very popular around here--I say they are just apartments that you have to purchase :rolleyes1 --it drives me bananas to have to listen to other people's noise, and I told DH I would never willingly buy a condo (unless it was a vacation condo)--no full-time apartment living for me ever again, already did plenty of it in my 20s! He totally agrees.

We have a house on almost an acre...DH plays the guitar, banjo, and mandolin so there is no chance he would ever want to live in an apartment again either --we know nobody would want to be subjected to his noise either. :teeth:

And may I just add...OT...NEVER change your signature, okay?

Sorry, OP...I had a call on my cell. Could you repeat your question? You were saying something about your...oh wait...I really gotta take this call. I'll be with you in a minute.

I know it's bothering me more than most people because I'm used to the peace and quiet. I've gone from living in a house in the woods to living in an apartment, big transition...but I still think that's incredibly inconsiderate of them. I'm looking to buy a house, but nothing decent is available right now.

Wow, SillyMe, sounds like you must live in my spare room! We've lived in our apartment for 3.5 years. When we moved in we had the sweetest old lady upstairs who would invite us over for tea and cookies. Well, she got lonely and moved to be closer to her kids.

Then a 20 something guy and what I assumed to be his sister moved in. They worked night shift so they would be showering/moving furniture/using the blender at 2am! Then one night I hear some noises coming from upstairs which made me hope and pray that they weren't siblings.

Well, they finally moved out and a whole family moved in upstairs! There was a mom, dad, 2 kids about 6 & 10 and a whole bunch of other people would stay there too. Well, the parents wouldnt' give the kids a key so they'd stand outside the apartment for their parent's to come let them in. The family didn't speak a word of english so when their toilet overflowed and flooded MY bathroom, I went and banged on their door trying to get them to turn off the water to their toilet, well that was frustrating. The dad would smoke (the smoke would waft into our windows) on the balcony and flick his cigarette butts onto the ground or onto our balcony and I'd say "excuse me, i think you dropped something", he'd shrug like he didn't understand me.

When they finally moved out I was thinking, great, a whole rock band is going to move in upstairs. They'll practice when i'm sleeping and they'll probably be :smokin: and have cages upon cages of snakes and scorpions and spiders who like to escape. That's how the trend seemed to be going anyway. I'm happy to report that the new guy upstairs is fairly normal, no drums or creepy crawlies as far as i've seen. I barely hear the guy it's great!

We used to have the most fantastic across the hall neighbor. He was friendly and clean and quiet. Then he moved out. An old couple moved into his apartment. The lady smokes, no word of a lie, 3 or 4 packs of cigarettes a day! I'll leave for work at 7 and there will be 7 or 8 butts in her balcony ashtray and when i get home from work the asktray will be heaping (and smouldering) and there will be 3 or 4 empty packs beside it! Then in he evening when I take the dog outside she's sitting there riffling through the disgusting mess looking for butts to re-smoke. EWWW! Now she's taken to smoking in her suite as well as on her balcony so the smell is permeating into our suite as well. I can't even open my window cause if she smokes outside it come right into our window. I've complained to the resident manager and they won't do anything about it. :sad2:

I can't wait until our house is built. Good news is that they're framing it right now!

Din't anyone tell you? It's the "me" generaltion. It's all about me, what I need, what I want to do, what I think should.

It's called Common Courtesy and yet it's becoming increasingly uncommon. We're in the ME generation, where it's all about ME and what I want and the heck with everyone else. And it doesn't seem to matter if they're 21 or 72, far too many people in this world think it revolves around them.

I live in an apartment, but don't really have many complaints about the other tenants. Except maybe for the nosy woman downstairs. Drives me nuts. But our biggest problem is with the guy who owns the house next to ours. The house that we live in is set further back from the road, so we actually look over his backyard / parking area. A couple months ago, at 7:00 am on a Saturday, he brings in a backhoe and a dump truck and then proceeds to dig up the parking area because he's going to pave it.

Yes...7:00 am! Did I mention that my bedroom is right there and my bed is right next to the window? 7:00 on a Saturday and I'm woken out of a sound sleep by a backhoe. My heart did eventually return to its natural rhythm.

How Rude! I live in an apt and we try to not make excessive noise after 9pm or before 10am. We never jump around around or throw things on the ground bc we know it would be loud to the people below us. I have een lucky myself though and have had relatively poite negihbors, courteous of others.

Luckily I have a townhouse apartment...but the walls are so thin! The couple next door likes to...um, well, "enjoy" each other, but at 3 in the morning. My wall literally shakes, their bed springs are in need of some serious WD-40, and the girl is LOUD. I got fed up one morning when they'd wakened me for the 3rd time - I pounded on the wall and yelled, "Dude, she's faking it!"

Well, it got them to stop...

Of course, now when I'm sitting outside at 2 on a Sunday afternoon, I hear them going at it then. Yes, they can be heard from outside! With their windows closed!

That is one thing I do not miss about living in an apartment. One place I used to live, I was sure the child was going to come right down through my ceiling one day. It sounded like he was jumping off furniture for hours at a time.

Hey OP, I bet your neighbors don't complain when you're running your vacum....ummm, I mean blender at night :rolleyes1

I had a some neighbors once who would argue all the time and yell at their son. The son would always run out the apt. and slam the door behind him. Then they went and bought some exercise equipment and you would hear them on it all hours of the day or night. When my oldest son was born it was hard trying to get him to sleep during the day. He would doze off and then they would get on the treadmill and it would wake him up. I can't tell you how many times I went upstairs and asked them to stop. I called the police one time and they seemed to calm down after that.

Then in my last apt my neighbor that lived upstairs would thump so hard it sounded someone just picked up someone else and threw them on the floor. I was so glad when my house was being built I couldn't wait to get out of there. Fortunately he moved out about 2 months before I did.

Another story (same complex) there was this guy who thought that every one wanted to hear his music from his truck at 6 am everyday. He would just sit in his truck in the parking lot for about 20 minutes with the bass vibrating my windows. When I told the apt manager about it, they told me there was nothing they can do about it. Glad he moved out too.
