Does anyone have experience with Paxil?

I missed my Paxil last night and by 2 this afternoon I felt it. I took one really quickly and my feelings are just now going back normal. I hate this!!!!! I would do anything to come off.

My son is going through the withdrawal stage right now. He's doing it very, very slowly, pretty much 5mg at a time. He started at 25 mg and now he's doing 20 one day, 15 the next, 20 the next, etc. He will do that for a few weeks, then go to 15 for two days, 20 for one day, 15 for two days, and so on. The doctor that is helping him wean off is not the one that prescribed it (he's against his coming off). It's awful, we have heard, to completely get off of, and the doc said he may to the last 5-10 mg in ONE mg doses. He will be prescribed liquid Paxil for that. It's already been five months, so I am expecting this to take another 5 - 6 months at least. A good vitamin B complex helps along with lots of water. He slowly came off lithium also and feels so much better. He (and I!) will be so glad for him to be off of everything. All these meds really affected his memory and performance in college. Sorry to go on so long....

I am amazed that will all the epople that have such adverse effects with Paxil that is is prescribed so freely. I have made the decision that I will not take the Effexor to replace the Pail, but rather wean myself off Paxil. It has just messed with my body and I don't like it at all. I have the impulses too, that a few have mentioned. Right now I just want to get back to feeling 'normal' Thanks for all your responses and help.

Mickey, that is a great decision. Therapy is a great place to find some resolution to what brought you to paxil. Keep in touch!

My OB doctor just prescribed this for me. I took one (25mg) Friday night and was sick all day Saturday and lifeless. I have no energy. This site really scares me and I don't want to take this now, especially pg. I don't want to be on something the rest of my life-nor have a big problem coming off of it.

Has anyone taking something like this while pg? I was taking ST. John's Wort, but now I can't take that. I need something to get through all of this, but I would rather deal with it than be sick, irritable, etc.

Any advice?

I would recommend that you wean yourself off Paxil very very slowly. The doctor's usually just tell you to wean off it but don't tell you to do it at your own body's pace. If you go to fast the nausea and the dizziness is overwhelming. It will make you feel like you cannot function. You can slowly keep lowering the dose and see how you are feeling. At some point I think you will experience at least some side effects or symptoms but the slower you go the less they should be.

Brooke Shields who went off Paxil cold turkey reported that she felt as if she wanted to slam her car into a dividing wall on the highway with her baby in the back seat. You just can't take this drug lightly.

Paxil made me too tired. I do better with lexapro, but I guess that it is different for each person. Good luck! :flower:
