So far have found Budget for £398 for Gold package the cheapest.

Any advances????

Renting direct with a US car rental company is almost always the most expensive way to go, just checked this code with Thrifty. Base rate $456 (£325) add taxes and other fees adds it upto $613.73 (£435) and thats before you start with insurance payable locally which can double the cost, £800+ for 2 weeks rental approx double what it costs with a UK agent.

WOW...thats extortionate!!! Im sorry..I live in Houston texas and I was getting a week mini van with that rate for $300 dollars which is about One hundred and fifty pounds...for some reason I thought it would work out the same price. Sheesh...they really do rip off the British tourists with car hire. Im sorry..I really hope you get something cheaper. Good luck.
