this is a very interesting thread - especially as I have now seen my guide mentioned as being a good guide, whereas I wouldn't recommend him at all - Just shows that whereas one person can get on well with someone, another person might not find the same connection at all (we found ours to be very unhelpful and ended up speaking to his Manager to get anything done!)

Oh well, as has been said before, I will need to speak to my Guide for my add on later in the year, but then we won't be in contact again, so I guess its no big deal either way!

OP - I'm NOT positive, but I think I saw a post recently that would even allow you to buy only 50 pts................. I'll have to see if I can find it and post for you.

It was 160 minimum when we purchased as well. I did see the thread about 50 points being allowed... but so far I haven't heard of anyone actually getting that amount as a first-time purchaser. That's why I wanted to see if Heather was able to get a contract for only 100 as a first-time purchaser.

I am going to write down the names mentioned in the post and give them to our friends. If I do have a need to add on I am going to insist on a new guide if there are no resales that meet our needs.

It's a good idea to make note of the names of excellent guides in this thread even if you are purchasing via resale... as you will be assigned a guide once you are a DVC member. If you've already got a relationship established with one documented "in the system" (as in, you've called and gotten DVC info directly from a guide at Disney and that guide has entered your information into the computer system), then my brother was told that would be the guide who is assigned to you once your resale purchase is recorded by Disney.

Alot unclear about whether new members can buy in at 50 points -- seems it needs to be done through real estate agents that are licensed in particular states and authorized by DVC as independent sellers.

Not as unusual as you may think; SSR and AKV have had new member buy-ins at 100 points and currently this is still being offered to first-time buyers at both resorts. It would seem since DVC has a healthy inventory of OKW points acquired through ROFR so they'd benefit by offering 100 pt buy-in to move it; many OKW owners sold contracts after OKW extension debacle.

Our guide is TODD BEARDEN and we love him!!!

He has helped us with many things beyond our 4 add ons!!! We've referred several people to him and they have all been happy with Todd as well.

Second that. Todd has been very helpful and genuine with us over the last 3 years even though we have not bought anything since our original contract. We have referred some friends through him. He calls us every now and then, usually a message that we don't get until late at night. We try not to bother him, but he was very helpful in several phone calls when I was figuring things out in our first year. On our most recent trip, he called and left a message at our room to wish us a good trip and said let him know if he could help us with anything.

We bought in 2008 and I was finally able to meet Todd on our trip in April. HE IS AWESOME!!! I have referred several friends to him and none have been disappointed. When we were first considering our purchase I called and talked to him so much that my husband started calling Todd my "disney boyfriend". He is very patient and no pressure.
