In my quest to make a decision on what kind of a bed to buy, I recently asked if anyone had a tempur pedic bed. Apparently no one did, so now I'd like to know if anyone has a sleep number bed. If so, how do you like it?

Thanks!

I hate it! It was nice when we first got it, but now less than 5 years later, we are getting rid of it. The base is plastic. We had problems with it almost from the start....you know the "free trial" period is not long enough for the issues to appear. The sides are foam, as is the center. It collapses with time. The pillowtop does not hold up. It is truely the most uncomfortable bed that I have ever slept on. Now I called customer service many time, and while they are sympathetic, they are no help. Kinda like we give you 30 or 90 days to send it back (on your dime, by the way) so what else can we do?

This is just my experience, but $2200 for a sleep system that cannot last is problematic for me. If you want, google it along with "reviews" and read what others have experienced. I wish that I had before we made this purchase.

Whatever you choose, happy sleeps!

We also didn't like it and got rid of it..... It always felt hard and not comfortable to either one of us, we just never could get the right setting. In the end we sold it at a big loss to a friend and bought a "normal" mattress with a good amount of memory foam and loved it from the first nite. You will find many people who do like these mattresses however - I don't know how you decide from just laying on one in the store :confused3

Almost everyone in my family has a sleep number bed. They are very pleased with it.

I have a Craftmatic bed and paid close to 6K for it. We had to get lifts for it 'cause it is 4' off the floor (canopy bed) and we got all the goodies with it. Had it for about 4 or so years and we love it. The mattresses are awesome.

It's too bad we can't try it out before we purchase. After investing that much money, some people might not like what they paid for.

Whatever bed you go with, enjoy it

We have had had two of them and love them. The first one we had was a queen sized and we upgraded to a king size. We since gave our bed away to my dad. He has yet to set it up (just took it from us not too long ago).

I admit that our newer one is far more comfortable than the other one and I loved the other one. Having the pillowtop really helps. So I would advise getting one with pillow top at minimum. Ours is sturdy and noticed that it is even better made now than it was about 5 years ago.

If we ever got another bed, we would get a Sleep number, no questions asked. With all my back trouble it is awesome to have and to adjust for however I feel. We've been on our newer one for about 3 years now :)

I've heard similar things regarding the Sleep Number beds... seems you either like it or hate it. We just purchased a new mattress and went with a traditional one. I think we got a Sealy Posturpedic. It's pretty comfortable so far.

The only thing I wish we had done differently is gotten the shorter box spring. They now make the box springs in 2 depths, we got the regular depth, they also have one that is shorter. I wish we had gone with the shorter. The new mattress is so DEEP, the thing must be 16" or more high and with the regular box spring of, I'll say 8-9" the new mattress looks like a hugh monster in my room!!

we have one and we really like it. We got the queen size pillow top...I forget the model number. I think we have had it for about 3 years now. We bought it on the recommendation from a friend that has one. When we first got it, it did take a while to find the right settings. I was so discouraged and thought I would have to send it back. The saleslady in the store told me I needed a very low setting and in reality I need it higher...I keep it around 65. Once I figured that out, it was much better.

Some days when my lower back is really bothering me, I lower down to 25 when I first get in bed and it feels wonderful!! After about 15 minutes like that I pump it back up to 65 and it's good for the rest of the night.

Redmic, I meant to post yesterday to your Tempur Pedic thread, but I got distracted.

We had a Tempur Pedic bed and just replaced it with a Sleep Number bed two months ago. We prefer the Sleep Number bed.

The Tempur Pedic bed is great for the winter, but it does tend to "sleep hot" in the summer. It really retains your body heat. I found it to be comfortable most of the time, but my husband did not. He has neck pain, and it wasn't cushy enough for him to alleviate the pressure points. The foam takes a while to break in.

The Sleep Number bed has been a better option for us. My husband no longer has the neck pain issues. We bought one of the more basic models and spent the extra $$$ on a deluxe mattress pad. It has made the bed VERY comfortable for both of us. We like the ability to adjust the firmness up or down. Our sleep has improved with this bed.

Feel free to ask any questions.

We've had our sleep # bed for about 4 years now - love it!

We bought a refurbished bed through their toll free number - at about half off the retail price - it has the same warranty, new covers and pumps, etc... the only thing we didn't get was the 30 day sleep guarantee - that was worth it to save over $1000.

If you buy a bed, get a referral from an owner, they have an *owners club* - we got a $50 credit when our friends bought a bed.

We got ours about 5 years ago and we love it. The support is great for my back and it's nice to adjust firmness when I want a different setting. I used to wake up with terrible back problems, but they have disappeared. The only problem we found is the roll factor. Since Chris is heavier, his side needs less pressure. When he gets up, I will start to roll over onto the lower side of the bed, if I'm too close to the middle. So if either one of us will be in the bed alone, we'll pump up the other side of the mattress to 70+ to keep from rolling.

We have the pillowtop and have a good mattress cover over that to protect it.

My inlaws got a sleep number bed- and now it's in the guest room. It feels like sleeping on that air-filled packing material- big plastic pockets of air.

MIL tried to give it to us, but after sleeping on it at their house, we said no thanks. BIL and SIL didn't want it either.

I looked into them a few years ago. All the reviews on epinions.com talked me out of it. I guess you need to get a king size for it to be comfortable. We needed a queen size. I guess with queen size, you don't have enough room for the 2 chambers, so you end up sleeping on the dividing material instead of just the air portion. Hope that makes sense to you.

And if I remember right from those epinions reviews they are VERY difficult to return & they don't refund all your money. Go check out the reviews.

Thank you everyone for your feedback!

This will be the first bed I've ever bought (our current bed was a wedding present- 26 years ago - and it's a waterbed!). Like everything, beds have gotten more complicated in the last 26 years! :sunny:

Overall we love ours. It's quite the radical change so you should really think hard about it before deciding. We have had ours for four years with not even one problem. They seem to be very well made and they do what they claim to do. It's just a matter of if you like them or not.

We did however have one issue that has nothing to do with the bed itself, but is something to think about. We got a new bedroom set and the new bed frame is different, and as it turns out, doesn't support the plastic framethe way it needs to be. Simple fix, we will add support oour new bed frame, but you should check out of it will work well with your current bed frame.

Depends on where you like to sleep. If you drift towards the middle, this is very true, but really no worse than wearing out the middle of any standard matress. We both certainly drift towards the middle of the bed, so IMO this style of bed has outlasted any traditional style matress we could have had.
