Does anyone have a picture of the view without the hat?

I like the hat. I've only really ever known the hat and it looks great in pictures! Being that it's my least favorite park (maybe that will change when my kids get older) it's not that big of a deal though!

Pre-Hat MGM Studios was far better than post-Hat DHS.

Plus the view of the Theatre was much nicer than the hat, simply because the hat did not fit the Hollywood aesthetic.

Personally I think they need to move the Earful Tower to somewhere nearer to the centre of the park.

I have no feelings about the hat one way or the other, but I agree that DHS needs a larger icon than the theater or the earful tower. We did characters in flight two trips ago and it was so neat to see all the park icons on the horizon. I think not having a large icon would then seem out of place compared with the other parks.

This is first time I have seen pictures of HS before the hat. I don't like the view at all. I'm going to miss the hat.

Ugh, I couldn't stand that hat-I put it in the same category as when they dressed up the MK castle like a birthday cake or when they stuck the wand on the Epcot ball!

I never understood the point of the hat. All it did was block the great view of the theater. I always viewed the ears water tower as the park's icon-just didn't see the need for the hat.

I'm looking forward to them removing it.

Hi Dan! Glad to see you posting.

I personally love the Hollywood feel of the street without the hat. It would be nice if they would put the hat somewhere else but I bet that it is way harder to move it then take it down.

We like the hat / my DH feels this is the equivalent of Epcot losing SSE...I find the theatre dull and didn't enjoy the similar theming of Hollywood area at DL either.

I also didn't object to the wand (never saw the birthday cake - only the mirror).

I was assuming that they decided to actually take it down to better support construction in DHS. Easier to get large machinery or construction items around DHS.

I always liked the originial look of MGM, without the hat. Walking down that main stretch and seeing the Chinese Theatre just brings me back to my childhood trips beginning in 1992. I hated the hat, grew to deal with it and even grew to like it. But I am in no way upset that they are taking it down. The placement of it was just wrong - right smack in front of the theatre. The theatre is hollywood! The hat could be placed somewhere else.

There's the $64 question. They may not leave it empty--they may put something in there that's even worse than the hat.
