Does anyone have a picture of the view without the hat?

I can see that the hat doesn't fit in with the feel of Hollywood Studios. However without it, the view down Hollywood Blvd looks so boring. I really hope they put something up instead of just seeing the Chinese Theatre.

Thanks! Looking at those, I think I am going to miss the hat. Seems kind of blah without it.

So good to see people actually loving on the Hat. Maybe if we would've been the loud ones before this decision, it wouldn't be going.

Yup. It went up in 2001, so if you visited MGM on any of the first three trips in your signature, you saw the park heartless.

Wow, what a quote. I completely agree with this statement. Without the Hat, the park will seem heartless.

I prefer the view without the hat. But, I don't hate the hat. I think it takes away with the entry into the park, the way it was designed. Here's my issue....all the other park 'icons' have been an integral part of that park from the beginning. The Castle has always been there, Tree of Life always there as well as Spaceship Earth. Yes, 'stuff' has been added to these at times, but they remain the same underneath and always go back to the original look. The hat was an addition and wasn't supposed to remain there forever. The Earfful Tower was the original icon.....but it seems to be a bit far removed way back there. It would be nice if they could move it to a more central area. Who knows what will happen.

Good news! For everyone who likes the hat, here's a photo of what it will look like once it's relocated.

There's the $64 question. They may not leave it empty--they may put something in there that's even worse than the hat.

Though I never hated the hat the way others seem to, this hadn't occured to me. Most of us are just assuming it's going back to the way it was. But something else could be coming, something I'm sure we'll all hate :lmao:

I've never seen the park without the hat, so I feel like a sentimental part of my past Disney experiences is being lost, I'll miss it for sure

This debate pretty much break down to, generally, those that visited the park during the first decade and experienced the Imagineers' original Hollywood Blvd vignette don't like the hat, FOR ITS' LOCATION, and those that have never experienced the park without the hat can't imagine it without.

And those of us that experienced the Imagineers' original vignette, during the first decade of the park, consider the hat as the soulless corporate pandering abomination.

Generally the hat isn't hated by us old timers but the location of it is.

Really? :rotfl2:

FWIW I visited in 1998. My first ever trip to DHS/MGM. It was terrific. I still remember the wonderful fireworks exploding over the theater and courtyard. The place had plenty of "heart".;)

Look at those photos brought back some great memories. That darn hat, glad is finally going.

I feel as good about when the castle became normal again after pepto (who ever had that they idea back in 95' should of been fired) and the wand at SE. SE is iconic enough we didn't need a cheesy wand to make it "special" so glad the hat is going.

1) So, YOU were the TWO people in the known universe that liked the hat. 2) Always wondered who they were. :cool1:

LOL! I like the Hat too! or is that three?? LOL!

I wont mind seeing it gone from the main entrance, but it is pretty cool, so it would be nice if it was moved to somewhere in the Fantasmic area.

I don't mind the old view, but the ear tower as the icon then? Compared to Tree of Like, Castle and SE-could really use something IMO.

In the "new" Disney infomercials on Discovery Channel and Travel Channel, the Earful Tower is prominent, and no Hat. I think that is going to be the new Icon.

I'm pretty sure they're clearing up the area due to the forthcoming expansion. Same as they're "enhancing" the hub at MK for better traffic flow.

That hat (regardless of whether you like it or not) messes up the traffic flow at DHS something fierce. Getting rid of it now lets them start getting ready for the likely huge influx of folks they expect once the Pixar Place and Star Wars Land expansions are completed.

I'm sure once the hat is down the wait times are going to jump at at GMR. "Oh look honey- they were hiding a RIDE behind here!" :rotfl2:

It was the original icon...way back when. It's just sad that it's so far removed from everything.
Perhaps they can put the hat on SE! :rotfl2:

For me, I guess I fall in a middle ground with regards to the hat. It's the same way I feel about the Pink Castle Cake, the Gold Gilded Castle and the Epcot Wand on Spaceship Earth. It was a fun TEMPORARY thing to do. And I am glad I got to see them all in person. But except for the Gold Gilded Castle (minus the magic mirror), I've never wanted any of them to become a PERMANENT part of the parks. The 15 months to 2 years the castle was redecorated was just about right. The 7 years for the wand was too long and the 14 years for the hat was way too long.
