Does anyone have a Gazelle?

Gazelle exercise machine, that is?

DH's DD had one she did not want, so she gave it to us. It's the lower price model but it does have a little computer that calculates speed, distance, time & calories burned.

The problem is that after about 1/2 hr on it today my feet started to really cramp up. I think part of the problem is that I was not wearing good walking shoes - didn't think I'd need them but seems like it was wrong about that! Has this happened to anyone else?

If you have one, do you like it? Seemed like I was getting a good workout but I had to stop once my feet cramped. Next time I'll start right out with the good shoes! I'm hoping it will get me through the winter when it's too cold & icy to walk outside very much, so I really want it to work for me.

I just started using mine again and yes, you do need good shoes!

For years, I used an aerofit rider, but it got too squeeky and I bought the Gazelle. I hate to exercise and this is one thing that I have used the most consistently.

A word about the counters....one thing I love is that when you stop, the clock stops, which really helps with phone, kid interruptions. The only thing I question on the Gazelle is the calories burned. It shows a lot higher than the aerofit used to.

I like to change my body position, too....bent knees, up on toes, etc.

I have a Gazelle too!

My problem with shoes is the positioning of the the machine makes my toes get squished to the front of whatever shoe I am wearing. I found doing it in thick-soled flip flops works as good as any other shoe for me.

I love the Gazelle. I too vary the activities by bending the knee, up on the toes. I also do inner and outer thigh by standing sideways on the pedals and do a criss-cross-like motion.

Glad to see others use it also. I put mine right in front of the tv and ride while I watch. I must say my best workouts are when Survivor is on...it gets me all pumped up and my speed is a lot faster than when watching E.L.Raymond. LOL!!

Thanks for the replies. I did a lot better on mine with good shoes, I thought I wouldn't need them because you don't get the pounding on your feet like when you walk, but it really did make a difference. I also found my toes squished to the fronts of my shoes. I'll have to try more experiments with different body positions, but I'm afraid I'll hurt myself if I try to go sideways! I don't expect to use it much more before our trip, but I will be on it a lot when we get home.
